Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

But the damndest thing is they DO have an Imperial epic list archetype and always have. Guys' they're imperials, Imperials fly swarms. Here's your chance to fly 3-400pts of swarmy death. And it's even a good idea too! Rebel/dual faction players dropped 150 bucks on two epic ships at game point cost ~150pts. If you went out and bought like $90 of fighters to bulk up the swarms you already own you could snag 2 Advanceds(surprisingly okay in epic) 2 Bombers(Also good in epic) 2 Defenders(So good for epic) and get just as many game points! I don't get what the hold up for an imperial Epic is out of these guys? Is the prospect of taking your massive fighter swarm out to blow up a rebel scum light capital ship with minimal escort somehow not appealing? Did I miss something?:/

They also fly large pie shaped gun platforms that absolutely pulverize huge ships.

But they're still stuck in spacedock... :(

Actually, it would be very cool if the Epic Imperial was a new system to make swarms. Maybe a pack of 10 TIE Droids that work some way as a collective mind. I dont know.

I wont be spending another penny on X Wing until I see a release for Imperial epics. Epics are what got me into the game in the first place and frankly if they decide to slit the throat of epics because it doesn't make as much as other formats then stuff them. I am starting to lose my patience with FFG when you develop half a line they make a commitment to finish that line in some small way at least.

Maybe we need to organise

Relax. They're not going to slit the throat of Epic. They're just making us be patient.

Something paying customers tend to be piss-poor at. Trust me, I know... I work in hospitality :(

I am very relaxed, I just wont be buying any more X Wing until I know it will be the game I was lead to believe it will be.

As I said I got into XWMG because of the epic format (I don't do tournaments) and I don't think it's remotely 'finished'

I don't expect new ships even every year in that format just want some balance to the format.

How were you led to believe there would be Imperial Epic ships? FFG has never said anything official about them releasing any Imperial Epic ships. The game is not incomplete. The game is as complete as the last piece of the game you bought.

They stated more than once, at Gencon by the CEO himself during the upcoming FFG breakdown (where scum faction was revealed) it was in response to a direct question, and then other sound bites from other sources, but I like that I can quote the guy at the top on this one. :)

Imperial epic ships would be nice but this games always been sold as a starfighter game and on that front it's doing great.

Those are still teases with no official confirmation or guarantee. Actually, there is no guarantee at all even if they say it officialy. The game is not half released in any way. These are expansions not portions of a full game.

Couldn't agree with that more. I still question the necessity of "Epic" play honestly.

That's a great point, but the same approach could apply to a scenario where a squadron of Rebel starfighters is dispatched to blow up an Imperial huge (or, you know, Death Star), or a squad of Scum ships sets out on a pirate raid versus a high-value Imperial target. There's definitely a place for that in this game, if FFG opts in.

And the other side of the argument has merit too, I think. Of course FFG owes us nothing, but there is sort of a precedent, and not just in XWMG or even tabletop games in general. Releasing dedicated huge ships for only one faction is not a balanced approach (despite being fairly balanced from a play standpoint).

You may be right, that the swarm is the Imperial epic archetype. You definitely are right that swarming a small cap ship is appealing. But there's a desire for more—and certainly a market for it—and if an archetype does already exist, that still doesn't preclude Imp huge ships.

There's no necessity, of course. It's just options; just being able, sometimes, to field something so magnificent as the CR-90. I'm sure you understand that— from one starship designer to another. FFG really has a good opportunity here, I think the market is established.

And here's me, you, and Hobo all agreeing on one thing for the first time ever; that Imp ships would be nice, but this is a starfighter game.

Still, I want to posit that introducing a couple more ships [for a peripheral play mode] isn't going to fundamentally alter the game.

X-Wing now. X-Wing forever.

Couldn't agree more. As for the three of us agreeing, you and I have been cool for a while right?

The whole game isn't 'necessary', so let's get off the high horse of acting like 'Epic' is the unnecessary way to play and that those who want to play epic are doing it wrong.

No, there's no contract, but there's plenty out there so that we can feel comfortable with the notion that an imperial huge is going to come. FFG has no reason to blow smoke up our rear ends. We're their bread and butter and they're trying their damnedest to keep us happy.

I still have it out for you. :P

:P

I'd still buy a Gozanti. I actually hope those are tourney legal. God knows they're fielded enough in Rebels to warrant it. (And in large enough numbers at that.)

Hells yeah I'm buying the Gozanti when it comes out.

(Now watch my use of the word "when" jinx the whole thing, and we'll be getting a 7"-long Carrack cruiser because someone misunderstood that cockpit-looking thing.)

Man screw the Carrack Cruiser. It's such a horrible design.

Can I get ... All of the corvette and under size ships pls?

Trying to come up with a way to have a tourney of the format in a reasonable amount of time. Might figure out a way by the time the Imp Epic is announced :P

Couldn't agree more. As for the three of us agreeing, you and I have been cool for a while right?

Absolutely. Even when we weren't cool that one time, it was just a misunderstanding.

I disagree with almost everything that Hobo says ever, but we've largely avoided coming to blows.

But regarding the (hopefully inevitable) Imp huge, I do want to encourage you not to worry about this turning into a capital ship game.

As someone who is going to skip everything related to the scum and villainy faction, I'm eagerly anticipating the release of a Huge Imperial Ship.

Love this thread, I hope it always manages to find its way to the first page :D

I feel exactly the same, except a couple of ugrade cards that seem appealing, the third faction will be without me. But an imperial huge, that i am looking forward too. Or maybe two, like rebels. I would be fine with a isd-shaped ship at 3 epic points, and a goznti at 2 epic points.

Oh trust me, I know it won't turn into a capital ship game. If for no other reason than nobody could possibly afford that. :P
