Soooo..... Imperial recolours or gozantis (just to get back on track).
No-one mentioned the possibility of a carrack yet?

Well if the defender and decimator are 'canon' based on commander, then I want bombs for hwk-290.
The HWK-290 using bombs? Eugh, that's disgusting. Who greenlit THAT? Though I suppose you COULD actually replace the turret with an external bomb bay, or refit the nose area where the second crewman sits into an internal bomb bay, equally with little actual work.
It was a sort of last-minute retrofit that made sense in the context. From the game dialogue: "I had our techs outfit some HWK-290 starships with incindiary bombs"—basically a single anti-personnel charge per ship [to kill zombie stormtroopers]; nothing at all like a Y-Wing or TIE/sa.
Hey, it worked better than Hitler insisting that the ME-262 get fitted with bombs, and that happened in real life
are video games canon?
are video games canon?
Previously they were lower level canon. Below books and movies I believe. Movies being top canon.
This entire game is based on the x-wing computer game and the decimator and phantom are only in video games.
are video games canon?
Commander is.

You mean that cruiser with the disproportionate cockpit? Please no. Literally the worst design in star wars.

That would be the one!
I do think someone's mentioned at at some point (search: indeed, on pg. 8), and yes, it had that crazy cockpit-looking thing, which is entirely too odd for a 350m long cruiser, which is also a bit big for this game, as that's 3x the length of the CR-90.
I veto it.
My Tie Fighter nostalgia still keeps me hoping for a BBF-1 bulk freighter.

Veto vote here as well. It's just awful.

Quite so, look how pretty that thing is:

Yeah it's pretty iconic in terms of the games I'd buy one.

Yeah, there was a fair big of discussion about the BFF-1 Bulk Freighter earlier in the thread. Not only is it iconic for the fans of the PC games, but it could be an incredibly useful expansion all round as well:
Topo did a 3D model at shapeways that could detach the 4 cargo containers and place them in separate stands.
So here's the TIE-Cutter I posted a WIP shot of forever ago.
I may have rushed the paint job a little, but I was tired of the thing just sitting on my desk.
I swear the speeder's chin gun is still on there. You can kind of see it peeking out from underneath the hull. Yes, those are snowspeeders doubling as TIE-style engine panel nacelles. If they're engine or cannon mounts, I have no idea. If the thing's role as a cutter/PT boat, they're probably extra cannon mounts to make it extra-nasty when it's coming at you. The thing is about as long as the GR-75 model, but bulks considerably less. Look at those bigass engines in the back. The Empire must've gotten tired of being trounced by pirates in hot-rodded freighters.
A size shot with a wingman. Probably larger than a Decimator model, but who knows? It's probably too small to proxy as anything else, so I'll just mount it using a taller post on a Falcon-sized base and say it's another Decimator.
As amusing as it is to speculate about an Imperial Huge Ship, who thinks we'll see one in 2015?
FFG's art department, 3D sculptors and production team must be maxed out with 2 other Star Wars games coming out and all their expansions. Do they really have time for the complexities of an Imperial Huge Ship?
I'm guessing Epic is a pretty small piece of the pie when compared to the potential of 2 brand new titles.
During the Twitch World Championship X-Wing Final, Frank Brooks also alluded to new meta coming out for the tournament scene for X-Wing for 2015. This would be new ships for the standard game and the 3rd faction. If this is the case, do they have time to test out Epic rules for a new Imperial huge?
Again, Epic is a pretty small piece of the pie when compared to 2, possibly 3 waves of ships coming out in 2015.
Is an Epic huge ship on the back burner for FFG?
Another thought is that the Imperial Epic Huge Ship might be the Gozanti. If this is the case, FFG may want to wait for Star Wars Rebels to gain in popularity, so the Gozanti will be more recognizable.
Finally, I think the vast population of X-Wing players, as sad as it is, don't/won't play Epic. (Maybe an Imperial Huge will change that, but maybe not). At my LGS, I've seen hundreds of X-Wing 100-point games, but I can count on 1 hand the number of times I've seen a Tantive or Rebel Transport on the board.
Maybe we won't see an Imperial Huge until 2016? 2017?
Thoughts?
I think waiting till 2016 would kill it off.
Yeah in my head the Carrack was smaller. It's dat cockpitlike bridge.
Gozanti gotta be the small GR75 sized huge. Nothing else would fit except maybe a Guardian cruiser.
To even the CR90 either a CR92 assassin class cheap ripoff or something new. For the sake of packaging nothing wedge shaped.

The reason you only see one or two games with EPIC ships is that they made EPIC ships for one side only. If they don't have one in the pipes for release then the best option would be a repaint/packaging of the CR90 but for the Empire/Scum and add in some crew. Not the best but without the balance who wants to play over a dozen ships over 3 hours. Its all dials and moving to get to one round of firing.
I'm not getting a Tantive till they put out an Empire EPIC ship. Its that simple.
It's so sad to see so many people be all like grump'i don't/won't play epic'grump for so many, frankly, stupid reasons. The format is actually amazing. Once you get past the first three games and actually know how to get it setup and running and know how to build squads it's freaking insane fun. Kinda like normal standard play, you had to play one or two before it really starts to click. Me and one friend desperately want to get into a team epic tourney together because we rock as a team. But this one post of the game just gets the shaft.
I really hope we get the Imp epics soon. At least a few won't have a reason to not play anymore.
my current hope is that either day after wave 5 it's released or day after wave six the epic wave 2 will be announced. Standard will have enough to digest for a few months.
I've not bought any epic stuff yet primarily because I don't have a big enough collection of standard fighters yet, although the lack of imperial huge ships is also a factor.
I do think epic will become a lot more popular once both sides have access to huge ships however, and I'll probably start looking more seriously at a purchase then.

There may be some opportunity cost to putting out the epic ships. If they develop epic, they're not developing other stuff, which might sell more.
However, I think that there's also a BIG cost to not developing the Imperial huges post-haste. That's the disappointment of those who had high hopes for epic and purchased the Rebel huges in anticipation. YMMV, but in my neck of the woods, pretty much everyone has bought at least one epic ship and most have both. I'm one of the latter, even though I identify with Empire much more than with the rebels.
It was, frankly, a disappointment that they went with S&V first, rather than announcing the Imperial Huges at GenCon. Though I understand how it makes more sense for them to have done so, that doesn't make me less disappointed.
Disappointed.

I ordered wave 5 at the same time I ordered my epic rebel ships.
I wont be spending another penny on X Wing until I see a release for Imperial epics. Epics are what got me into the game in the first place and frankly if they decide to slit the throat of epics because it doesn't make as much as other formats then stuff them. I am starting to lose my patience with FFG when you develop half a line they make a commitment to finish that line in some small way at least.
Maybe we need to organise
Disappointed.
I'm so there with ya.
