Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

Cool your jets. Bottom line is I just want to see cool imperial ships, not boring repackaged repaints (or Space Dongs) People can subscribe to whatever fluff they want.

You are the one that brought up fluff being only what "Emperor Mickey says is okay", all I said is that it doesn't matter if it was Disney approved fluff or not, it would be logical to assume that if the Rebels had them that the Empire probably had them as well.

While having new ships would be better a repaint would be better than nothing, if FFG did a repaint for Imperials it would be fairly exciting otherwise they wouldn't bother to do it at all,

If they were a company that half-assed things, a repaint is probably what you'd get. However, they seem to be fully-assing this game, so odds are we're going to get something good.

It's a week old, but what the heck.

Just reminding them that we are still waiting on an announcement that they will be made, not that they are ready to go to the printers.

It is the one dark spot on the X-wing line that I'm still waiting for them to fix. I have a feeling that they got the Tantive in mind to put into play and then couldn't figure out how to get the Empire Huge ship sorted out so they are still working on it. That goes against their current wave style of balanced building for both sides at the same time. They built for one side only, and that imbalance is showing. There just doesn't seem to be a desire to correct it anytime soon.

Objection! Assumes facts not in evidence.

All FFG has said publicly about Imperial Huge ships is... well, nothing, actually. And I absolutely get how annoying that is, but it isn't evidence that they don't want to correct the problem. What they've said so far is exactly what they'd have said if they weren't working on it at all, but (see your e-mail for confirmation on this!) it's also what they'd have said if they were planning the product launch for tomorrow.

And they just compounded the problem by having introduced another faction. What huge ship(s) will they get?

I have no idea! But why does the third faction affect their progress, or lack thereof, on Imperial Huge ships?

Hope they don't consider the decimator as an imp. large ship.

@Vorpal.

If the Empire huge ships were 6-9 months later (so it was a production or licensing delay) I would be ok with that. It is over a year from Tantive announced, released, rules updated, and waiting on the news for the Empire ship. If they were to announce it tomorrow, they still would have to get it approved, produced in numbers, slow-boated over here to store shelves. It took the Tantive 6 months to do that. Best case, just before next summer. If it was announced today....

They planned every release to be balanced except this one. That's my beef. So what is the current hold up? Liscensing? maybe. Production, hell no. Haven't got an answer that works; well if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.

Now with a 3rd faction they have to figure out what their huge ship(s) will be. And if they had figured out the Empire already, where is the announcement?

A year after the Tantive was announced does not take into account the developers talking about it and working it over. Figuring out costs, supply, distribution.

There is too long of a delay in the announcement for me to believe that they had everything ready to go last year. If they came out and said nothing else for Epic would be available, sales for the Tantive would dry up faster than water on Tatooine.

I had been thinking that the imperial huges were tie-ins with SW:Rebels (i.e. gozanti) and that they were waiting for the show to start before announcing. That would have been understandable, but if that were the case we should have had the announcement by now.

The only explanation I can think of anymore is that they DIDN'T have imperial huges planned and were waiting to see how the transport and Tantive sold before starting on them.

I'm pretty sure they will, you know...

I hate seeing that other thread on this same subject being more popular than this one. That just ain't right.

So, if they're right about that 18-month plan, does that mean that if Forgottenlore's theory is correct, then we might have a year still before the Imperial Huge.

Ugh... Surely that can't be the case.

It'll let some of us catch up in buying scum, and getting additional misc ships - in my case, shuttles, firesprays and tinterceptors.

At GenCon they previewed things 6 months in advance, it was a big push for extra publicity. I don't think we will see an announcement of an Imperial Huge just before shipping, they would have announced it along with everything else they had. Maybe we'll get an announcement as soon as wave 6 ships?

I would expect at least 6 months notice from the time any Imperial Huge ships are announced until the time they hit the shelves.

Given the impending release of Wave 5 (pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease) and how far along we are with the previews for Scum & VIllany, I'm inclined to expect an announcement of some sort from FFG before Christmas. Maybe not Imperial Huge, but at least something new to look forward to in the New Year.

A bit of seasonal cheer from FFG, maybe?

If they are relying on good sales from the Tantive to justify making the Empire ships there is a big fallacy with that. I buy for both sides, but I didn't buy a Tantive because I wanted to know what it would be paired up with for the Empire before making that decision. Right now I don't have anything to put it against to justify its purchase.

So I am holding out for a product that they are potentialy measuring metrics on to see if they should put out the opposing factions counter so that I can justify purchasing the measured one...

They should have done both, limited run to start. If it sold out, do another printing (they have been doing reprints since 2012). If it didn't sell as well, give it some time and put out more organized play for EPIC with different extras. Acrylic alternative cards ;) .

Half an EPIC wave does not make a play tier structure work properly.

I think they didn't announce it at Gencon because revealing a new faction and a star destroyer would have resulted in a mob of rampaging X-Wing players. Clearly it was a health and safety decision.

I would have held off of scum and released the Imperial epics. Then focus the next 2-3 waves on Scum.

I'm starting to think that the huge sales aren't going well, especially given the price point. You can find Tantives NIB for around $45 now.

Where can you find it at that price? I've been looking to get a second one in the $50-$55 range and can't even find that.

Well, if you take a look at the Upcoming page, the Rebel Transport and Tantive IV are both being reprinted, so FFG clearly sold their stock.

Whether the independent retailers which bought it have managed to shift their stock is a different matter.

I imported my tantive from america when it was on sale, even with shipping it cost me £45 significantly less than the £75 it retails for.

£40-50 is about the limit for really big models as far as i'm concerned nice as it is it's not quite worth £75 to me and i suspect i'm not alone in this so people waited for the price to drop, at £45 i snapped one up at 75 i could wait.

Include enough cards and options and I'll shell out $100 for a big Nebulon B...

The alleged price barrier complaint is really staying to aggravate me. The Corvette is a whopping $90 as I recall? The advice we give to almost every new player is buy two starters for max value and content. Together those cost $80. The total buy in for a single release wave full set of singles is $60. Scum will be $90 alone. What's the hold up here? If you tally up a whole collection it comes out to almost $700 total spent for a full one like mine. That's before the tantive or transport. For an entire new format of play $90 is a bargain. Not to mention you get a ton of the saga characters including the competitive level C-3PO. Is the problem that you have to pay it all at once?

Well, I think that it is a lot of money for a game piece that does not see a lot of play, aside from the C-3PO card. I bought it about two months ago now and have not had the chance to do any gameplay with it.

As others have said, the lack of an imperial huge is probably some reason for its tepid use. Epic gameplay really seems one-sided right now.

Nevertheless, most players I know have at least one of the rebel huges, and most seem to have both. I think they're awesome just as display models. So, I don't think that sales have really been too much of a problem. I think that the Imperial huges would certainly have a market if they were going to put them out there.

Also for a ship they may not ever use it's also a steep price. I bought the transport at a reduced cost from MM when it came out. I've never used it or the X wing, or the cards.. I'm an imperial player and thought some of the upgrades would be nice. And I also provide for others in my game group, but we haven't met up in a while due real life issues.

This is a game, or a hobby to most of of here. Not everyone can afford to throw money at it, but we get what we can and go from there. When I was working and had more money to toss at it I could splurge a little and indulge my hobby... not so these days...

Just a different viewpoint..

Fortunately you can get them under 50 these days,

Alright, I'll ask you too. Can you point me to someplace with that price? Apart from the miniature market daily sale a few weeks ago (which I missed) the best I can find them for is about $63. I'd like to get a second one to repaint as an imperial version, I'm willing to pay $50 but not $60.

Check ebay. a couple weeks ago I saw someone had a couple on a buy it now for 45... he may have more.. and no, I dont remember who it was, I may have set it on watch, but ill have to check.

Keep it up people!

Nearly page 60!
