Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

I don't think packaging the fix for the Advanced with the epic ship is a good idea, since people could need up to four of the title card that is supposed to rebalance it.

I get that, but what else would you package it with? It's not like they're going to redistribute the TIE Advanced.

Unless they release the Avenger. Which I'm 100% for because those things are siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick. Just hope they'd fix that stupid wide cockpit it has.

That stupid wide cockpit was from one game thankfully. The original cutscene model looks a lot cooler! Here is the original in game model:

I completely agree with you that the Avenger should be in the game. Though I hope it is a new ship completely. Something has to give the Empire access to s-turns!

Also tractor beams...

I think an ace pack with an Advanced and white striped bomber would be neat.

Good lord that's sexy.

Also Fractalsponge's Avenger model is escorting a shuttle in the last image of "The Essential Guide to Warfare" so is canon now I guess. At least as canon as the Vigil.

I'm literally dying for an image.

The image in question is here in this WIP thread. I linked to the page it is on. I don't want to direct link because that thread is a treasure. It has a lot of great pics showing how he puts it all together. Plus there is a lot of stuff that never made it to his site.

Ansel Hsiao does amazing work!

But vaders ship was specially made for him to his specifications, they never went into production until the avenger was perfected.

How's this inquisitor got one? Is it a reject version left over from the R&D?

Seems that way. I guess if you like wearing black and kill a jedi or two, you get your own custom TIE ship from the bin of forgotten prototypes. The TIE advanced is kind of an evil Gundam that way.

Except every Gundam-type mobile suit ever is better in every possible way, but let's not digress.

Wouldn't it make sense to release the tie avenger and then include the advanced upgrades in there instead of forcing you to buy the big ship for the advanced fix.

Better yes. But they dont look as good as most Zeon suits.

I hated the wide cockpit on the Avenger. That is why i based mine more on the fractalsponge version. It has become one of my favourite TIEs. Actually one of the only non movie TIE variants i like

And that is why I need to pick some of them up soon!

Also a Gundam type flight path game would ne awesome! Come on FFG, aim for the top!

As long as it's not based on wing that series just went in circles, now one based on seed I'd buy.

Arr!* I love this version of the TIE Avenger!

(*Token reference to International Intergalactic Talk Like a (Space) Pirate Day.)

I was never too excited about the TIE Avenger I remembered from the old TIE Fighter game, because it looked mostly like they took Darth Vader's TIE Fighter, and just added TIE-Interceptor-style slots both to the front and back. I can't imagine any real-world-physics reason for the acute angle of the TIE Interceptor "dagger" wings, but I still liked the aesthetic of them; the TIE Avenger seemed to lose that and just kept the gap. Then, the gap in the rear just seemed silly, since it was billed as being added to widen the pilot's range of vision ... and presumably there wouldn't be much use for that in the BACK where the pilot couldn't see anyway.

This version keeps the forward-and-back gaps, but returns more of the "dagger" angle to the forward wings that gave the TIE Interceptor such a nice profile.

I also like how the "fins" on each side of the cockpit are harboring some sort of hatches (missile tubes? tractor beam emitters?), and that makes them look a bit more functional.

This is one handsome TIE variant, and even though it looks so similar to Darth Vader's TIE Fighter, I suppose it's not much more similar than the Headhunter is to the X-Wing. I think it'd make a worthwhile addition to the line-up.

I'm also partial to the renders of the XG-1 "Starwing" Assault Gunboat also found on that site. I thought the design was a bit goofy before, but this one does a nice job of making it show a few bits of similarity to the Imperial Shuttle AND to various Incom designs, with the added touch of having enough detail that I can imagine how the wings/fins are supposed to all fold up for landing. It makes me want a toy model of it! :)

I just assumed it would be universal century. Really there's no point in any other. ;)

I concur. Universal century is the way to go. And it is getting a reboot the same way that Yamato did.

There is a line of figures, The Strategy of Gundam line that is approximately 2.5 to 3 inches tall that are very nicely done that we used for our Gundam tactical rpg. I think they would fit nicely.

This post is to let you know that ten more will make ONE THOUSAND POSTS!

And to say it makes sense just fine to be getting the Advanced fixes in a Gozanti Package. I'll be getting it anyway sense we play epic way more than we probably should but hey, it's a **** engaging format.

If that is an Advanced in Rebels, and the carrier Gozanti is the Inquisitor's ship, then it would make sense to package them together.

(There, does that help us to being the 'Thread of a Thousand Posts'?)

Not everyone wants to do epic though and it's unfair to have advanced upgrades behind a pay wall.

Plus we don't even know for sure we'll see anything from rebels yet that's just our speculation.

Well, it may not be fair, but does have precedence.

And I think epic is awesome!

This entire thread is speculation, so that's no indictment. But I do think they hinted at using stuff from Rebels.

YUP!

The big man said that they are looking at Rebels and that they are going to release more EPIC ships... PERIOD.

Now what does all of that ultimately mean for us on the game table (past a Gonzanti)... who can say for sure.

The nagging question has now become what huge ships will the TWO factions get, namely Empire (which has no huge ships yet) and the very new Scum and Villainy.

I have a good idea what to expect from the Empire in regards to EPIC ships but I have no idea what that other faction is going to get.

I wonder if it will be a cross faction possibility. A huge ship like Boba, could be used by either side. That would make it a very worthy ship to make multiple purchases of - buy one for the Empire and one for S&V.

I wonder if that is the reason for the hold back on any information being released - still testing it out?

I think I'll start to e-mail FFG to prompt a response. Its been long enough and I want to know if I get a CR 90 that it will have an equally impressive EPIC opponent, from either faction that is EPICLESS at the moment.

I don't believe there's a pay wall. I believe there's an illusion of one. When you break it down to what you pay per wave, and you change it from a single Epic ship to a Wave that only has one ship, the price is spot on. Example: I bought Four Z-95s and one of every other wave four ship(for standard play). So to play with wave four I paid ~$90US. That's the same price tag I paid in total for Epic Wave 2(Corvette). I will still be paying into wave four to get doubles of Defender, E-wing, and Phantom(Ironically mostly for Epic reasons, but some standard). So actually I got away with an entire Epic wave $45 cheaper than I play Standard. Hell the transport was a STEAL for what you got.

Not everyone wants to do epic though and it's unfair to have advanced upgrades behind a pay wall.

Plus we don't even know for sure we'll see anything from rebels yet that's just our speculation.

Not that the X-wing needed a lot of help but the same could be said about the Transport and the X-wing pilots and astromechs (that the Y-wings did need) and realistically huge ships are still a much more attractive option than nothing since you probably will be able to find a friend who bought 2 and has extra cards or ebay usually splits some packs up etc.

I e-mailed FFG for information on the Huge ships for the Empire and S&V, either what they are or when they will be releasing the information. I'm hoping that they give me a response.

POST 1000! WOOT!

Dude, if they respond to an e-mail asking for spoilers. Best Company. Ever.

I am now placing my bet for Epic release anouncement by the 15th of next month. Let's play HighLow
