Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

Tiefanatic 's griping is absurd. There are going to be threads about Imperial Huges. He really should be thankful that this thread has been the mainstay of it, rather than there be even more shorter-lived ones cropping up all the time. This thread is like a lightning rod for all the newcomers who want to come and say something on the matter. Here you go - here is the thread that talks about it.

I, for one, am happy to keep on talking about the Nebulon, seeing the developing models or paints of the 3d printer version that is out there. I think that it's totally awesome. If I were 1) less financially responsible, and 2) in possession of more time to play, I would totally get one and urge people to play the Nebulon B that Mel has available.

Also, I think it'd be fun to really get in depth on the Gozanti and guess what the FFG version is going to be rules-wise. That's what this thread can be/is about. And I'm perfectly fine with that.

Anyway, let's call it on the new subject: when one will be announced.

Just bring up how Karen Traviss is a terrible author and he'll be posting in here just as much as anybody else. I'm not sure how to connect it to huge ships, but I'm sure there must have been a few big ones in those books somewhere.

You got me on that one. If you did bring up KT, then yes i would most likely be posting here as much as everyone else. :P , but no, there aren't any huges in that.

I'm surprised no one has considered the Victory II class frigate from Battlefront II. I think it would make more sense than the Vigil and is close to the same length as the CR-90.

Wow, I completely forgot about that thing. I loooooved it, buuuuut the issue... Those damned wings.

It also vaguely resembles Jar Jar's face.

Make that TIEfanatic.

Dude, your own name's lack of even the conventional use of capital letters should make you glad I granted you the one.

I still feel the Sentinel assault shuttle would make a good one or two point epic ship. If has a lot of weapons and shields so would be justifiable. If would be typical for the Empire to get a little gunship instead of a support ship like the transport.

Did we ever hear anything from those who were actually present at the Gen Con In-Flight Report Q&A session?

Did anyone ask about Imperial Huge Ships? if so, what did FFG say?

What about conversations at the FFG booth? Anything?

I know. But it would have been bumped up in like 15 minutes anyway.

Yes but now your unnecessary post has made people who were interested think new on-topic comments have been made, drawing more attention to it.

How about you just ignore posts you aren't interested in and let others continue chatting as long as they like?

The thing is, i WAS interested in it. But now it's seriously getting annoying to see every day. For 2 MONTHS AND 11 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only thing that'll stop this particular thread is an actual announcement on Imperial huge ships.

Yep pretty much!

For the record, I do not mind the Victory-II Frigate's wings. I seem to have given off such an impression.

I do not. I love them. I even made a ship that was visually inspired by this one.

However, that would be a nightmare to store.

Well, i suppose that's true, but if you're gonna do the one capital, you might as well give me all of them.

I don't think anyone's suggested this one before (?), but how about the Arquitens-class light cruiser (AKA "Jedi Light Cruiser")?

Yes, it's Clone-Wars-era, but:

1) Justification could be that it's a holdover in the arsenal of far-flung Imperial outposts where a full-fledged Star Destroyer can't be spared. Older ships (such as the CR90, YT-1300, Y-Wing, Headhunter) sometimes still see use in the OT era.

2) It has that Star-Destroyer-esque wedge shape that would aesthetically tie in with the Imperial look if it were painted up in "Imperial grey."

3) Although Wookieepedia does not provide an official canon length, the features seem to suggest something fairly small. It's big enough to have a distinct "bridge" on top, but small enough that we can see the window panes. It's big enough to have its own turbolaser batteries, but small enough that we can count them (Wookieepedia claims 4 quad laser turrets and 4 dual turbolaser cannons, plus 4 missile tubes). Also, it has a "docking ring" on each side, and engines that look like they could have been borrowed from a Consular-class cruiser.

4) It's less "fat" than (for comparison) the Vigil, so it might work better for purposes of being in the neighborhood of the CR90 Corvette, dimension-wise.

(First makes its appearance in season 2 of the Clone Wars, episode 9, "Grievous Intrigue.")

I want to see this ship you made. :D

I'm ambivalent about the wings. However, if FFG were seriously considering this (say), then if the wings make it too unwieldy, perhaps a solution would just be to have the wing extensions be removable for storage? Either that, or invent some new functionality in the translation from old polygonal video game to greebled game model: the wings fold back or up or some-such.

I mean, they gave the Imperial Shuttle moving wings. Yes, there's precedent for that in the movies, but it serves no in-game purpose -- while it CERTAINLY makes the model a lot easier to store. :)

It's a very good design, but judging by the windows, just a little too large . Otherwise it'd have my support, 100%.

Seconded. Gorgeous ship.

I still think the Victory IIF is worth considering. Almost nothing else is comparable in size to the CR-90. This one is, because it was its direct counter in BF2.

I still also think FFG should invent one on their own. That is how stuff got into the EU in the first place, people just making sh*t up [with license]. A favorite prolific example is the Decipher CCG from the 90's. I wouldn't think it unreasonable that FFG could be given some allowance to that end.

I still also think FFG should invent one on their own.

Honestly, if it looks good and it fits the role, I'd be perfectly fine with that. :) From what I've seen so far, I think FFG has a pretty good track record on getting the Star Wars aesthetic pinned down.

If they have to dig too far into obscure corners of canon in order to find something, then it's not going to make much difference if they just invent something new anyway. As a bonus, they wouldn't have to compromise on things such as inconvenient dimensions or hidden Jar-Jar faces or whatnot.

I just hope that whatever they come up with, they also come up with some stats over on the Edge of Empire / Age of Rebellion side (since I've been playing the RPG, too).

I know. But it would have been bumped up in like 15 minutes anyway.

There's a real hilarity to that image.

"Here. One X-Wing. It's all you need bro."

Well we'd finally get a Tarken card then :D But the scale disparity is terrible How are you supposed to fit 3 x-wings side by side in that trench !

Peter Cushing was a gamer too

More pictures of the Neb B. Initial paint has been applied, and hyper detailing has begun:

Whoa.

What's the hull on the Death Star?

Yes!!! Page 42.

Infinity all over, but if you hit the exhaust port, it's 2 and it blows up....

Only if you pull the direct hit damage card. That's the reason they had to use the Torpedoes a concussion missile would only have produced a hit not a crit.

Nope - and, see you failed to use another one where you should have applied one. It's pretty rich that you're trying to lecture me on capitalization, when your own use of capital letters is wanting. :P
