Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

but there's just something about the cockpit/bridge area that makes it look like it's grossly out of scale compared to the Corellian Corvette and such.

I always think the maurauder looks like a fighter. It's a great looking ship, but it just looks like it is supposed to be the size of a y-wing.

In this file you will find:

Action IV (civilian) cards, dials and token

CR90 (imperial) cards, dials and token

Interceptor Frigate (civilian) cards, dials and token

Marauder Corvette (civilian and imperial) cards, dials and tokens

Nebulon B Frigate (rebel) cards, dials and token

Star Destroyer (imperial) rules, cards, huge token.

And yes, the reason there is no Gozanti is because I think it is going to come officialy, so I didnt do it.

The bridge does look really similar to the cockpit of a Y-Wing, it's true. The overall look of the ship also reminds me more of something from Star Trek rather than Star Wars...

Looks like you aren't the only one thinking this, judging by the Wookieepedia entry:

The appearance of the Marauder-class may have been inspired by the Ferengi Marauder , a vessel which made its debut on Star Trek in 1987 . The Marauder also bears a similar hull design with several Klingon and Romulan spacecraft from Star Trek.

Also, it looks like there's some canon confusion over the ship's size in terms of how it's depicted:

While a Marauder-class corvette did appear in the Darth Maul comic series , its size was inaccurate. It was drawn smaller than Darth Maul 's Scimitar , only about the size of a starfighter.

The same problem as stated above has occurred in Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood pirate Sol Mon 's ship that is attacking and intercepting Draisini looks exactly like a Marauder-class corvette, but is too small.

Judging from the narrative here, the "Marauder" first just appeared as a reference in a novel, but it wasn't until a West End Games sourcebook that a length was ascribed to it.

Anyway, that's not to say that anything listed is somehow "wrong." Just, aesthetically, I think it reads strangely, because two forward-fixed cannons like that are more like what we'd expect from a starfighter where the pilot tries to point the nose of the craft at the target -- not a capital ship, where there'd be enough extra crew to man turrets.

(I'm curious how the Mel Miniatures stats for this would play out, what with having a big sluggish capital ship that only has a forward firing arc.)

At this scale, those cannons are HUUUUUGE*, and that bridge is ridiculously roomy -- compared to, say, the "hammerhead" area of a Corellian Corvette.

(* In the Wookieepedia entry, each one of those things is a "double turbolaser cluster," whatever that means.)

It's definitely a curious looking ship. I imagine the fixed-wing mounted Turbolasers were intended for it to engage larger vessels - freighters, corvettes, small capital ships etc...

She arrived, and is a work of art. The Base as designed will not support her, but that is probably to be suspected since it is Strong, White, Flexible. I will make a custom base for her. I think that base will also have the model connect directly to the forward base (to lower her center of gravity, and give a more stable front attachment. The rear will be lowered to match.

Here are some pictures:

Will post more pictures after she is painted.

Sweet! I look forward to the painted pictures.

When you say that it won't stand up because it's SWF, what do you mean by that? Is it too heavy or is it too flexible?

How's the surface texture, by the way? Is this particular size such that the graininess doesn't bother?

This is the smaller version right?

looks really nice, but it should be 2x the size of the corvette..

I'm sure it's going to look great all painted up.

The big one is double the size of the corvette. The stands have that problem because they are too flexible. Im currently changing them for future buyers (and for the Gigantic Nebulon B). Thanks for posting those awesome pictures. Hope to see it painted too.

Absolutely beastly looking! Can't wait to see it painted!

The problem with the marauder is that if you turn it backwards it becomes the merchantman movie era Transport ship from the Trek universe

I hadn't noticed that but yeah there's more than a passing resemblance.

The model itself is very sturdy. No problems there.

The model is to heavy for the base to really support it. Since the structure of the base is not solid, it wants to lean over and "flop" on its side at the point where the support column joins the structure of the base. You can get it to stand up striaght, but if you try to move it, the support column starts to bend at the join to the base.

The surface is very slightly grainy, but I lightly scrubbed the model with hobby toothbrush, and think after priming and a light sanding it will not be very noticable.

Yes, this is the smaller version. Mel hadn't put up the larger version when I purhased this. It was after I asked if he had a version in scale with the Corvette that he posted the larger version.

Yes, the large 1/450 version in scale with the Corvette is my next purchase. Gaming budget being set aside as I type.

:)

Glad I am able to be the first owner of the model, she is a beauty, And as the first purchaser, I expected there might be glitches, so I am glad the only hitch was something that is not a show stopper.

Will post more pictures as work progresses.

Again: sweet.

Has anyone come up with a convincing ruleset for it yet? Mel, I didn't see one in your .pdf.

So we love the new Large Ships for Wave Five, and we have seen what FFG has done for the Alliance Huge Ships. I am calling the Imperial response, for fun, and because I think this is going to happen.

We are likely going to get an Imperial Gozanti Cruiser for the GR-75 Transport equivalent.

And an Imperial Vigil Corvette for the Tantive IV equivalent.

These ships are doable in the same way that FFG did the Alliance Huge ships.

What do you all think?

:)

Both of those are great. Yes Please!

Here's Mel's cards Mikael.

I'm tempted to have a go at making some experimental rules myself - it might work as a three card model, with the aft/engine block generating power and the fore and center sections both having primary weapons... certainly three sections that need to be crippled to destroy the ship entirely should help make it tougher without having to go overboard on shields and hull.

There's also a printable template version if you want to try flying it around a game board:

And yet you just bumped it with your post.

I know. But it would have been bumped up in like 15 minutes anyway.

Yes but now your unnecessary post has made people who were interested think new on-topic comments have been made, drawing more attention to it.

How about you just ignore posts you aren't interested in and let others continue chatting as long as they like?
