Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

What he said...

Your opinion has been duly noted oneway, and filed away in the big, green, plastic bag-lined filing cabinet marked "irrelevant".

Imperial huge ships are an inevitability, and FFG continuing to develop the Epic scale format is an inevitability. If you personally aren't interested or don't want to participate in either, that's entirely up to you and no-one's forcing you to - but there's plenty of people who do want to see FFG push the boundaries of what people think is possible with X-Wing, and give us the iconic ships the game deserves.

So realisticly... all this wishing for ships that are ridiculously huge is just a pipe dream.. cost and what people are willing to pay is going to be FFGs reason for doing anything.. so Neb Bs and ISDs are ridiculous concepts for this aspect of the game.. find something in the realm of believable and I might hop on board.. but until then, you're just blowing smoke..

But nice to know that someones opinion is irrelevant on here.. though I might say the same of yours as it is obviously from a fan boy view of the system and unrealistic desires for a game..

But.. have fun with that...

By the way... those iconic ships.. just got made in a Fleet style game.. makes me pretty sure we'll never see them in Xwing.. just my 2 creds

I disagree with part of this.. yes, there will be imp huge ships.. but I don't think there will be more than 2 for either side.. or they will be small like what we have seen..

Oneway. Bro.

You need... To stop talking like... This...

A little variance. Your use of, "..." constantly makes you sound like you're sad or in thought. Usually both.

Use your aggressive feelings, boys. Let the irrelevance flow through you. Your turns to the rubbish side are nearly complete.

Not sad.. in thought......... maybe... lol

For me, those signify a slight pause in the thought pattern, or just a pause in speach. Admitedly I do use them a lot. I should probably stop, but it's a hard habit to break.

In a novel you often see --- instead of ...

So that might make us hacks instead of writers... dunno.

^_^

Don't care either...

Where are you getting these cute Lil Smiles?

Works for me Joe --- lol

So you can be Stephen King and--- I will be Brian Lumley... kinda.

:P

I've been looking at that shapeways mel shop for some days now... and I wonder.

would the 1:608 scale Neb be "decently scaled" enough in x-wing? Not sure I can blow 400 euro's on the 1:440 th one :(

I have been thinking about how I would see it in the game though, 3 sections, have fixed front primaries, special side fire arcs for secondaries, mid section no hardpoints but some sort of docking/refueling mechanic/action....

Wheels be turning... or more like sublight engines purring? :D

One more week of waiting till Gencon drops! Can't wait!!!

The Neb in Armada is rebel. So, unless one of the upside down cards is an Imperial version, I doubt we will see it as an Imperial epic.

Me happy all day nowzies!!!

It even works on me Blogies !!!!

Like DAT...

Flawless logic there, considering the iconic Corellian Corvette is in both games... as are the iconic TIE Fighters, and iconic X-Wings... there's clearly nothing at all preventing ships that appear in one game also appearing in the other, and why should there be? It's the same universe, after all. So yeah, another irrelevant point.

But.. have fun with that...

That's precisely what we are doing in this thread. Having fun. And long may it continue.

Now that's much more like it! :D

To be honest RealShinigami, Mel showed the pictures of the the 1:608 scale Nebulon B first, and it looked amazing. But then he put the 1:440 scale pictures up, and of course the closer we get to the rest of the models we get in scale, the better it looks.

I think the smaller scale version would look and play perfectly fine in action on the tabletop, and would probably even work better... but of course the perfectionist in me would always want the larger version!

What I will say though, is I'm going to wait to see what FFG deliver in terms of Imperial huge ships (hopefully they'll pt us out of our misery and show us what they've got planned at GenCon). I'm also going to wait until Mel puts up a photo of a printed, painted Neb B as well, given that it's only currently available in the WSF material.

To add to the above post, here's the two different scale versions on the same image:

I really dig those Action transports.. they look awesome, I am hoping one of them is in the works for an imperial huge ship..

As for my flawed logic.. what else do you think they would produce for a fleet scale game.. you want those recognizable ships in the first release, and as far as the ties and x wings.. those are also obvious parts of said game.. too large ships will not be part of epic.. it needs to fit on the table in the prescribed scales.. also, why give the imps a ship commonly identified with the rebellion. I don't think my logic is flawed, I think your expectations are unrealistic... which will be proven out.. we shall soon see..

So now you're contradicting yourself as well. FFG absolutely have to put recognizable, iconic ships that are already in X-Wing in Armada yet they can't put recognizable, iconic ships in X-Wing because they're already in Armada... round and round and round he goes, where oneway stops, God only knows...

...and our expectations are far from unrealistic, as - once again - these models have already been produced, just not by FFG (so far). You're right about one thing though - we will soon see what Epic scale ships FFG choose to release for the Imperials. But whatever they choose to produce, i'll still be able to get myself a Nebulon B Frigate. I'd much prefer an official, FFG made and produced version, but I have absolutely no problem going the third person route if not.

Gimme dat top one!

Absolutely.

Although, there's really nothing wrong with the smaller version at all, looking at it. And as shown in the image it's only marginally longer than the Corvette - about half the length again - which puts another nail in the coffin of oneway's "it's just to too big" argument.

Not contradictory at all.. I still hold that they won't do certain ships in xwing.. but they have very good reasons to do so in Armada..

Sure you can get third party items, but don't hold your breath on FFG making them.. I still say, unrealistic... some things are just too large to put in this game.. and out of the price range for many gamers..

Not really.. if they stick to their current scales for the ships released so far... it'll be closer to the larger one and.. too big.

Also.. still a more recognized rebel ship...

But.. I get that some of you don't think anything is "just too big" learn to live with disappointment... lol...

If it's home-brew? Go ahead, knock yourself out.

But at this point, I wouldn't expect to see anything much larger than the Corvette enter the game from FFG . I don't think Armada makes anything impossible, but it does give FFG a way to politely say "If you're looking for fleet combat, we have something over here you might like…" That is, I expect that X-wing is designed to be the skirmish-level game, and Armada will be the fleet game; clearly the two scales overlap at the Corvette level, but the Nebulon-B really isn't on the same playing field.

(The "from FFG" part, by the way, is what makes oneway's objections irrelevant: for a while now you guys have been talking about 3D printed models for home-brew, rather than something you expect to see come pre-painted and ready for sanctioned play. At least, I don't think you are.)
