Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

I wonder if the BBC (fnarf) licensed the music from Star Trek: Voyager for that clip?

And Gladiator at the end

Sorry Gosric, I never actually made it that far. Had to switch it off after the "discharge" line.

Switching topics, I have a question for you from a modelling and design perspective.

I've always thought the Nebulon B is an incredible cool looking Star Wars ship, and from an inexperienced standpoint it would seem to be a fairly simple task to split a potential model of the ship into three separate interconnecting parts for ease of production, shipping and storage - the main hull, the engine block and the spar that connects them.

I was really impressed with the multi-part Assault Gunboat and Skipray Blastboat you've designed, and how the finished products looked. Following your experiences working on the Pulson, how feasible / difficult do you think it would be to produce a multi-part model on the Epic scale?

I think I saw somewhere .. someone is doing this in shapeways.. but it is lots of pieces..

Sorry to seem like a tease, I wish I had a link for it..

Yeah... looks like Mel's made his Nebulon B available at 1/450 (Corvette) scale... :o

That is so beautiful....i really do hope FFG produce an official version around the same size

I dont want it.......I NEED IT!

If they ever actually make ships of this size, forget about doing it in the regular plastic used for these minis. Instead, make this out of hard plastic and dub it the "X-Wing Miniatures CARRYING CASE" with lots of hollow interior space and foam lining, with lots of room to park your normal starfighter-sized ships inside, and it just happens to double as a playable piece when you attach the bases. ;) Okay, so maybe you wouldn't fit THAT many ships inside the Nebulon-B shape as presented, but can't you just imagine using the central spar as a carry handle?

Ditto!

:D

  WHO DO I NEED TO THROW MONEY AT TO GET THAT BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF ART!

Anyways, there is this as well: @21:17

Cool cause you can see in the cockpit of it during a drop, and its the Lambda/Sentinel Family, so there is a lineage like the TIE/ln --> TIE/in --> TIE/v38

Oh, that price... Its super effective! KO!

Seriously, I can't afford 500 bucks for a Nebulous B frigate. Super sad face.

Great news Vorpal.... bur we still want our X-Wing Epic scale Imperial ships as well! :D

I'm sure in a week or so we'll all be able to argue bitterly over politely discuss a whole new crop of information about Star Wars release stuff.

Fingers crossed, you know me, I love a little bit of polite discussion!

It depends. it isnt difficult if you start out with that intention but it can be a bit of a pain if the model is already completed.

It also depends in whether you download a model from the net or if you build it from scratch.

I would think that you could produce it faster if you download and hollow it out ,logically enough. And i would assume it would be easy to find areas where you an divide it into sections but the model is usually going to end up a lot more expensive.

If you build it from scratch it takes longer but you can minimize material use from the beginning and make allowances when constructing the hull to allow easier sectioning. I made the mistake of designing and building my Asp and Sentinel wedge corvettes to be in one piece which limits material choice if nothing else.

But the Pulson A for instance could be remade with minimal fuss to be modular. Currently im working on an Assassin class Corvette and a Corvan Corvette both designed to come in 2 parts from the start.

The engine blocks are going to be separate which could also be useful to scratch builders who want a big engine section that they can build an interesting hull for but i dont know.if that would be considered 'cheating' so to speak

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, that was the other thing I was thinking about, material choice. Not being completely conversant with Shapeways, the size of the model seems to impose restrictions on the materials that can be used.

I'm looking forward to seeing your Corvettes - I'm sure there'll be a big market for parts for kitbashing as well!

From what i can tell about 8 inches is where they cut off access to the detail materials depending on a few factors. so im working on making sure any section is below that length.Just in case someone can actually afford the detail models at that size *L*

[record scratch]

Record scratch indeed. It'll take some pressure off our calls for huge ships, certainly off the ones that would be beyond the viable scale.

We will still see calls for SSDs Eclipse-Class SSDs, and Death Stars

Also.. that landing craft is a Warlord class lander... designed to carry 4 AT-ATs

As nifty as that is... look at how big it is. Price point will be 3 or 400 dollars... not in my range of price forma game... and.. look at how big it is.. how do you set that up in an epic scale game map.. cause you are only moving 1 forward each turn until you move off the board...

Why do peoples brains detach when they wish for big ships in this game.. they just released a new game to put this kind of ship in the game.. where it will make much more sense.

Why do people's brains detach?? Because... look at it; it's freakin' awesome. I would totally dig seeing that thing on the board, with starfighters flying under and around it, with it just hulking there, firing turbolasers or quads.

Of course it's not at all practical, and few people are going to shell out $400 $250 for it.

But give us the moment to imagine it and be happy.

(Are you trying to be a wet blanket in the hopes of getting your curmudgeon membership back? 'Cos that might work.)

Hahaha.. I'm a wet blanket for any idea that makes the game unplayable.. I think a ship that size is just that.. nothing will hurt it and only the big ships can bother it...

So here it is.. my big wet blanket, and I toss it over the idea of a ship that size being playable in a game.. the concept.. ludicrous.

(Drops mic and walks off stage)

250... unpainted.. and with no other cards or tokens.. or a pretty box...

Dropping mics on stage. Were you born in a barn?!

The Neb B would indeed need a different maneuvering system than Huge, and Huge is already different. So, they shouldn't do the Neb B because either it would be too big or they would scale it down and it would be too small.

So, let's get back to the original question: What is a realistic Imperial huge?

The top contender seems to remain the Gozanti.

I'm hoping for the Lancer at this point not just because I like it and it comes from the RPG, but because it would make so many people here feel inadequate. The Vigil is cute and all, but it's just not going to happen. So there.

Yes, but I have seen 4-5 people I think comment about not willing to shell out $400-$500 for it.

BTW, Armada has effectively ended any thought I had for getting this.

Lol.. I was born in Louisiana.. lol

I agree I would love a lancer.. I think it would be awesome.. but like the corvette.. I dont have one as of yet and may never get one.. too big for me and too much money..
