Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

That is an awesome sculpt, such a shame it is only available there in peach-fuzz plastic.

I wish these ships were produced at the best quality by their sculptors then cast in resin from those like the little Gozanti kit you can get on Starships Modellers so I could buy beautifully detailed and smooth castings as they were originally sculpted.

I would toss that fuzzy thing right in the trash.

Yeah man, these guys should just suck it up and make the models properly.

Guys like us would buy their work for sure.

I would drop a $150 for a three pack of 'em, and that covers their first mold cost right there.

Sure, but that would probably require a degree of demand that just doesn't exist without official backing. Without it, the mass production setup is probably just too expensive.

Yup...

"Here I am... toot, toot, all alone in my garage, poot, poot, and nobody knows so nobody cares... I should just go get a real job, before I F'ing die!"

This is something that I did in my youth as a painter, and I know old guys like us that still try to run a garage business.

Good luck to them, shame that there is no such thing as luck.

I've seen the movies, played Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, and the old tie fighter video game. I tried to read the Thrawn trilogy so I heard some mention about skipray blastboats and dreadnoughts.

In none of those sources do I ever recall seeing the frigate as an imperial ship. Even if I had encountered it in some EU novel or comic, it's doubtful that it would displace the image of this ship as a rebel ship as seen in the movie. I think it would be a bit weird for FFG to introduce it as an imperial ship -- but if that's what it takes to see this ship in the game then I wouldn't complain.

I read every EU novel or comic book released prior to Phantom Menace (and then practically disowned Star Wars for nearly a decade) but I don't recall the Nebulon-B being an Imperial ship, so I don't know how common that knowledge really is.

There are ways for designers to counteract the stepping lines that can result from the 3d printing process by using detail and panelling that break up the layers and result in a smoother print. Especially in the detail materials. And fuzziness can be minimized with a bit of a soapy wash and application of a toothbrush.

But the ability to mass produce would certainly be nice to have.

I have a partially designed Gozanti but since it seems likely that there will be one produced due to the Rebels show i put it to one side. Even if FFG doesnt make it there will probably be a toy that might be to scale or close to it

Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels (the old one) lists the Frigate as originally Imperial but the Rebels obtained some second hand and ones that "fell off the truck"

Which is a hilarious mental image.

"Kriff, we lost those Nebs."

"Eh. Too late to get 'em now. Not like the Rebels will find 'em all the way out here!"

"Hahahahahaha!"

And then they did.

Some guy standing in an alley "Hey, wanna buy a frigate?"

And he just pulls one out of his pocket.

"Is that a Frigate in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

"Is that a Frigate in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

"Both!"

:D

I'll carefully avoid mentioning the Carrack or Lancer in this context

I question how many penises you've actually seen.

I think FFG will also do the Gozanti carrier as the next huge. Though I'd like to see the regular freight version too. Thing is I think Wookipedia once again has the size wrong at 41.8 meters which everyone that has been scratchbuilding them has used as it's size, also seen it listed as 53 meters on another site.

this looks too small. Especially when you think 4 TIEs can be docked under one.

GozantiCruiser.png

problem is getting an official size. I think it's going to be about the same size as the Rebel Transport

found one guy trying to guesstimate it's size based on the TIEs, but even that looks too cramped

I knew the neb-b was imperial forever it's well established they are bought and paid for by the empire, then stolen by defectors men of little worth and traitors to humanity.

I still remember the modified frigate with two fins from tie fighter.

Indeed. The treacherous scum, using Imperial equipment against Imperial forces.

I blame ion cannon technology.

The old X-wing games would chuck a Nebulon-B at you in a handfull of missions. That's about it apart from databooks.

I support and endorse everything about that sentence.

Actually being able to see that clip (edit: where it shows a view of the Gozanti-class Cruiser carrying TIEs, as seen from the FRONT) ... yeah, there needs to be a lot more space between the TIEs in the middle. On Wookieepedia, I noticed that there was an updated length on the "Canon" tab that says 63.8 meters, and I thought, "Oh, THAT must be the correct one, and I'm a bit over!" But ... nuh-uh, if the TIEs are spaced that far apart when viewed from the front and they STILL fit under the body, then 70m isn't nearly long enough.

Good grief, but this thing is going to be a monster on the table! And just pulling the trick with the GR-75 or CR90 and having it at a different scale won't cut it in this particular case. :/

Okay, back to the drawing board again!

Well, it will if you don't expect to actually see TIE Fighters slung underneath it.

If you DO expect to see the TIE Fighters slung underneath it... well, then we've got probleme.

That is what I think (hope...) we are getting, the larger version say.

We want the wonderful; loveable, adorable, mean little TIEs slunging!

^_^

Taint a carrier without slungings !

Then you might have to accept TIE's which are about a third smaller than the ones we use in game.

Gosric faced a similar head-scratching design puzzle when he designed his Pulson TIE carrier, if I recall correctly...

NEW and Improved for 2014! :D
