Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

Surprised I haven't seen the Dreadnaught Class Heavy Cruiser mentioned at all. This seems like the perfect choice to me. Anyone who read the Thrawn trilogy remembers these guys. Perfect fit for the imperial side in my opinion (not to mention I would kill to have a Thrawn card).

The Dreadnaught has been mentioned before.

However, it's been ruled out due to its size.

I'm not looking at the stats at the moment, but if I remember correctly, it is 3-5 times the size of the CR-90.

Underestimated a bit. 6x the size of CR-90 according to Wookieepedia.

OK, that is pretty sweet. I am officially tempted.

As excited as I want to be, there's a little voice in the back of my head nagging me with one question:

How are people supposed to transport that?

If I were to get it, I wouldn't be transporting it anywhere. Just sit it on a shelf and keep telling myself that I am going to get around to painting it one day.

Did someone say Third Faction Star Destroyer?

Its not bad, but it doesn't look like it belongs in Star Wars to me. It's just a generic looking space ship that I could see being in any sci-fi series. The epic format is meant to be iconic, and the dreadnought is anything but.

Son, the dreadnought is one of the MOST well known EU ships.

But, it's too big.

The obvious answer would be very carefully . Personally, I was hoping it would be printed in three pieces, so it could be assembled/disassembled for shipping and storage. Main Hull, Engine Block & the spar that connects them.

I'm going to wait to see what FFG has in store for us at GenCon. If there's still no sign of Imperial Epic ships, or if they don't float my boat... then I may well splash out.

It looks like an amputated Battlestar with case of goiters.

I know the ship. I just don't like it.

I've always found its lack of visible command deck to be what -really- hurts it aesthetically, because that's kind of a star wars staple. What really bothers me about the ship is the insane crew count for its size. Never made any sense to me- I always felt the scale of the dreadnoughts was off, when you compare how they were described in the Thrawn Trilogy.

Basically it's a mess that needs an overhaul, honestly.

Hm, this thread is (I thought) about our guess for what the Imperial huge is going to be.

While the Dreadnaught has indeed been part of the EU for a long time, it's (as others have said) just too big for the game.If FFG didn't care about scale, they'd just straight to the Star Destroyer.

So, this is just not a serious contender. Sorry Ruytoo , but welcome aboard. Just because we're shooting down one of your first posts doesn't mean that we don't want you here. ;)

No matter what wookiepedia says or the EU, the frigate is the last scene in the Empire Strikes back, fixing up Luke. In the minds of the movie-goers, this is a Rebel ship...

In the minds of someone who has ONLY ever seen the movies, and knows absolutely nothingelse about the Star Wars universe, maybe.

But let's face it - those self-same people would probably wonder what in the blue hell a TIE Defender is, or an E-Wing, or a Z95 or a Decimator for that matter - so I think we can safely dismiss that particular point as being completely irrelevant.

Sure, but I am pretty sure the target audience for selling this model is above the average movie-goer.

I am moderately up on the EU, have been familiar with the z95, e-wing and defender for decades and the nebulon B is a rebel ship. Considerably Moreso than the corvette.

I read every EU novel or comic book released prior to Phantom Menace (and then practically disowned Star Wars for nearly a decade) but I don't recall the Nebulon-B being an Imperial ship, so I don't know how common that knowledge really is.

That is an awesome sculpt, such a shame it is only available there in peach-fuzz plastic.

Just imagine how much more expensive it'll be in the other materials.

Yeah but if I can't have it great then I will not have it period.

;)

Besides FFG will make it next year anyhow...

:D

I wish these ships were produced at the best quality by their sculptors then cast in resin from those like the little Gozanti kit you can get on Starships Modellers so I could buy beautifully detailed and smooth castings as they were originally sculpted.

Sure, but that would probably require a degree of demand that just doesn't exist without official backing. Without it, the mass production setup is probably just too expensive.
