Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

The cardboard might have that shape, but why do you think it needs two bases in the back? Seems like an unnecessary expense.

Stability and better mounting points on the under side.

I wont know for sure if it needs it till i build it :P

If you go with two down the middle you have an 8cm wide base supporting an at least 30cm wide ship that might be a little bit too tipsy for my tastes. Its also a wedge shaped ship so if you take the two stand approach the ship will be angled down when mounted unless you prop up the front peg.

Just to be clear I'm not talking about the ffg huge ship either, this is for my own custom home project ship that I'm building.

Actually on that particular version I'd say the swing was in acceptable tolerance. But it still doesn't solve the problem of a ship flying toward it. Mind you it's rare that fighters fly through the 'vette we have, but in a need-to situation almost every ship can leapfrog it if they need to. This double wide back and even the triangular middle prevent that.

Y'know, if they just wanted to say look, we wanted the Vigil's look but it wouldn't work. So we shrunk it down to 'yo' big and gave it a new designation as an escort corvette, and gave it the badass new name 'Valiant' or some such. Then I would be dying for the side story in Rebels where another cell captures a Valiant class and renames it the 'Vigilante' crewed by Raymus Antilles crack squad of renegades: Antilles Vigilantes. Plenty of homage to it's forebear ship.

Did a little moving about the board i have i think its kinda growing on me sure it powerslides but from a theme sense you really dont want to be flying straight on at the wedge shaped ships.

So you get a better glimpse of the sizes in a volumetric way (since from above everything seems fun). These are all made with sliding scale, and also the models are just undetailed models to get a sense of scale, doesnt matter if they are not accurate.

And this is a little idea I had once:

VIGIL! VIGIL!

Nice work Mel!

I would prefer Vigil to either have 3 bases, of 4 bases arranged in a cross, for the fore, aft, port, starboard designations. But it stands out the best of all options, your version of the Customs Corvette seems very wide on the table and doesn't have that "presence" that the Vigil has for almost the same space.

Great work Mel

It hurts to type this but out of those the only one thin enough to be affordable based on CR90 costs is the Dong.

Any chance of the Storm Carrier on that sliding scale??

No, I dont have the Storm Carrier... and Wookieepedia doesnt say its size.

If they announce the Lancer, we will have to change the epithet from "Epic" to "D***o" tournaments. Whoever brings more Lancers to an epic match would be said to out-d***o his opponent.

As long as someone remembers the lube.

We have many modders with LED lighting solutions, I'm sure someone can modify the Lancer to include a dispenser, perhaps near the bridge?

where are you based mel?

I think the length for the storm commando i found was 150m?

Your a crazy man Mel wonder how much a meter long star destroyer would cost from shapeways :P

In Hell Lilikin, keep up, it was said two pages ago.

It wouldnt be a meter long star destroyer, just the top... And I was really considering it untill Shapeways changed the pricing system.

Well you could get it done in metal and just crush tables with it.

What about a vinyl mat of the star destroyer, but then add in 3D gun and bridge sections, launch-bay areas for tie fighters. You could do a whole table as the star destroyer and have that as the mission. Would definately be an Epic game on a 6 x 3 surface.

That's what you seem to have pictured, Mel. What is the costing on the 3D elements?

Whenever I see one of those Star Destroyers lit up with fibre optics, the task always scares me, but this...

I would make the effort to put lights on this thing, because it's just too **** cool. So much drilling, but soooooo worth it.

The Vigil looks awesome next to all those other scaled models. But at 1/561 is that for 255m? So that would put the Vigil miniature at 45cm? (17.7 inches)?

Id say so it defiantly looks about four falcons long or two of the transports next to it.

I want that Vigil!

A bit too much. Just the top of the star destroyer will be around 400$ and A LOT of work detailing.

Is that with or without hollowing it out?

I predict a vacumm or press fixture in somebodies garage that will be able to make one of these...

Hollow.

Non hollow would be more than 1300$

Mel, I'm curious, has anyone from FFG ever said anything to you about signing up with them (or, at all) ? You do quite a lion's share of work on these ships.

Hollow.

:o

That boggles the mind at that price...

$1300?

Could buy parts and build my own printer for that.
