Imperial HUGE Ships...I'm Calling It.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

No f*cking kidding!

I've screwed a guy regularly before and you don't see me talking about how things look like dongs! For the love of Talos, it really is getting old.

Right i'm done now ...

It dont really bother me only kidding around. Pics or it didnt happen ahawohoo!

This whole space ship looks like a wang issue isn't really limited to star wars lots of ships from other sci-fi games and things have it too.

Its why we need the H-K Probot! it just looks like a really big probe droid and since its more a vertical thing it would really pop on the table against all these usually horizontal ships.

Well, there's a lot of long things in the world. For spaceships it's just kind of practical.

I don't see why a large phallic ship on the table makes people uncomfortable, just think of all the innuendos you can make.

Screw innuendos think of the -repaints-

Behold and awe at my beige lancer!

and whoo 80 pages!

Will it sell if it's $200-$300 though?

that's GW money

Hold that thought one moment... just planning the bank heist now ;)

When it comes to huge ships, the Empire will does need to get the bigger imposing toys, and that Vigil certainly fits the bill :)

But The Vigil is just too big! It's like asking for Ridley in Smash Bros.

I'm not sure getting the thread to an 80page count should be an acheivment when a page of that is just straight **** jokes. Good ones but not really relevant. :P I think since the size comparison though of the vigil a few pages back we should get a similar one done with the Imperial Customs Corvette. That would be the next best choice in my mind. Can someone oblige?

Is it though? Judging from the mock-ups a couple of pages back it's just about at the upper limit of acceptable.

Oh length wise sure. Width wise no. People always go on about length but forget that what width is what really matters, and if it's too wide it's just not going to fit.

Take that as you will.

But seriously. It's just too wide.

Thats what she said, yeah yeah we all got it. Nice one

I was wondering about its size and thought it would be super intriguing to see a T-shaped base for such a wide ship. Impractical as all get out but that would be an interesting design iteration to play with as a tester at FFG.

Okay these are quick dirty and rough but it gives the idea. The black square is your 3ft game area.

And Mel's sliding scale from now on know as the Mel effect!

FFG might do more of their scale biz on it.

Sure its big but is it too big?

Though this is coming from the guy who's thinking over the six foot victory class idea.

Nah, that customs corvette's proportions aren't right. It's too fat, stubby. MF nailed it. But I'll let him post those images.

In the meantime, have this.

I used the fractal sponge one because quick and dirty, it fits between the two.

Just for you Lackwit!

Mel will probably just take a photo of all his shapeways ones he's done earlier :P

Don't forget that ships can overhang their bases, and as such would have a smaller footprint in the game than their silhouette. If you think of the Vigil as being to huge what the Decimator is to large, I think it can still work quite nicely.

Is there any way to put on this image the footprint of the CR-90 for comparison? We could then play around with potential footprints for the other 2 ships to see how they compare and how much overhang we'd be looking at.

See? Doesn't that fit so much nicer?

With my estimation at bases? the fighter and large ship are scale the cr-90 i guessed at since i don't have one yet.

The imp's ship needs to be -bigger-

The customs corvette would need some clear plastic or something bridging the gap between the front forks so the base peg can fit

A V peg. Have it shaped like that. That'd solve it.

oh thats cool! You put on the T-base I mentioned! Sweet. So if you gave it some bigger epic stands it would be very cool to have on table looming over the battlefield. As long as it's not too difficult to fit even other epic ships under it you could still fly through it. At the T-joint would be a very precarious place for a fighter though which I would have to see in action a few times. The only problem left with it then would be the way its butt swings out with the epic maneuver template. :( Sadly probably too impractical when all is said and done. Could we see a mock-up of what the Victory-2 class Frigate from Battefront 2 would look like next? It was my original guess way back when Epic was announced and now I'm really curious.

I still like the Vigil better its got that star destroyer feel I'm looking for Customs corvette while being closer on par with the cr-90 size wise just isn't for me.

Dev's have said their considering ships up to 250m

And if it was a contender i think we would have seen it in the age of rebellion book. But next to the Cr-90 we have the Vigil on page 274.

I'm not really familiar with the Victory II class but its said to be a similar size as the Vindicator class and that's 600m probably putting it right out.

You can get all kinds of shapes with three large ship bases and some punch out cardboard. Any behind swing is just going to have to be something pilots watch for :P

Well, the Vigil and Gozanti are the most popular suggestions thus far, and while we've heard nary a whisper on either, I can see FFG just doing both. It would more or less please all parties, really.

Hell, I'd happily buy a Vigil, honestly. But it just seems impractical.

Hell 80 pages of thread I aint waiting for ffg.

Im doing a mock cardboard vigil right now so i know how much evergreen styrine sheet i need to buy and to use it for templates :P

from page 274 of Age of Rebellion Core Rulebook:

VIGIL-CLASS CORVETTE

Produced by Kuat Drive Yards for the Imperial Navy, the Vigil-class corvette is the smallest vessel in the iconic Star Destroyer class of ships. Lightly armed and armored, it shares the dagger-shaped hull and large crew of its larger siblings, and operates as both a picket and reconnaissance vessel as well as an escort ship for larger, cruisersized ships. Their command decks sit flush with the hull, all the way aft over the main drive thrusters. This gives the Vigil-class a smaller silhouette and protects the crew better than the tall, exposed control towers found on larger KDY vessels. For its primary armament, the Vigilclass carries a trio of turret-mounted heavy turbolasers on the dorsal hull, giving it quite a heavy punch for so small a vessel. In addition, smaller turbolaser turrets are scattered over the ship's hull along with smaller, antistarfighter laser cannons. Thanks to their size and role, these vessels rarely serve in the line of battle with larger types of Star Destroyers. Instead, they patrol trade routes, serve as battlegroup leaders for small, backwater fleets, and operate as lone cruisers among the fringes of the Inner and Outer Rim, battling pirates and smugglers and rooting out Alliance agents.
