Talisman Dungeon - Indication for future expansions

By Hunter42, in Talisman

Feel like 2nd edition expansion all over again but still John did mention the thing about it being " toaded"

Wish we had a release date for the next one llorando.gif

I wish also for a release date, then we know when we can expect the next expansion gran_risa.gif

I know that John mentioned about the toad expansion, so we get toad spell cards and a chance to change a other player into a toad at the enchantress by using dark fate gran_risa.gif

I feel that the horrible black void is near.... demonio.gif

If FFG does the Talisman expansions like Arkham, then the next expansion will be a small box followed by a large box revamp of one of the regions. So all the expansions would look like this: Small (Reaper)- Large (Dungeon)- Small (XXX)- Large (region 2)- Small (XXX) - Large (region 3)- Small (XXX)- Large (region 4)-- end of line.

That would mean that we get a small one now gran_risa.gif

The main board still needs some cards, so it's not a problem for me if FFG release a small one.

Amd we get some new characters too gran_risa.gif

The cards that we need for the main board are:

Taxation, Electrical Storm, Berserker, Giant Lizard, Highwayman, Manticore, Orc, Chinese Dragon, Red Dragon, Shade, Band of Zombies, Phantasm, Sphinx, Porter, Pegasus, holy lance, winged boots, Halloween, Volcano, Lich, Centaur,Cyclops, Judge, secret door, Griffon, Harpy, Ghast, Vampire, vampire bats, Pedlar, man- at- arms,

For Dungeon:

Altar, Gong, giant spiders, Skaven, Rat ogre.

---------

This is not including Dragon expansion..

I forgot the Ferryman. I was confused with the Boatman.

Ferryman is a stranger and stays on the board and the Boatman is discarded on your next turn if i am right..

I made a mistake with the Ogre. It has been changed to Orc.

Another card that we don't have yet is Country Patrol, but i expect that it will be included in the City expansion.

I hope i have mentioned all the cards now..

Part 2

Spell Cards

There are still a handful of cards that we don't have yet.

Here they come...

Brainwave, Meta Morph, Mind Steal, Lighting Bolt, Feeble Mind, Mini Vortex, Spell Turning, Syphon, Temporary Change, Curse, Way of the Lotus, Bolster

(+ Warp Gate for timescape only...) not needed...

I was just thinking at how much cards we can expect that will be adding to main deck..

Right now we have 206 cards from 4th edition revised( base+reaper+ 10 cards from dungeon+ 2 promo's)

If the old cards will be added as stated above ( -ogre ( mistake)

31 cards+

2x river barge

2x country patrol

3x broken armor objects

+ 87 dragon cards

= 125 cards !

206 cards + 125 old cards =

331 cards !! demonio.gif gran_risa.gif

But if FFG will add more cards to the main deck then we have a lot of cards gran_risa.gif gran_risa.gif

Oke, now that we know what the cards are for the Frostmarch expansion, it's time to update the retro cards that we still need.

Taxation, Electrical Storm, Berserker, Giant Lizard, Highwayman, Manticore, Orc, Chinese Dragon, Red Dragon, Shade, Band of Zombies, Phantasm, Sphinx, holy lance, Halloween, Volcano, ,Cyclops, Judge, secret door, Harpy, Ghast, Vampire, vampire bats, man- at- arms,Ferry Man

PS:This is not including the Dragon expansion..

For Dungeon:

Altar( now for mainboard? Gong, giant spiders(now for mainboard), Skaven, Rat ogre.

(i assume Altar in frostmarch is the same as the one in the dungeon expansion from 3th/2th?

We also get some cards from the mountain expansion(5), and forest expansion(3) for the main board with frostmarch)based on official names)

More cards is certainly good for more variety. From game to game, it means you won't seen the same cards come up. Typically, with 2 people, the wife and I almost never get through just the base deck, let alone all if we add all the extra cards purchased or homemade. With 4 people, its close with 200+ cards. So maybe (?) the average game might get through 50 cards per player, tops.... but perhaps a little less when the Dungeon is played as well. I also imagine it is less with some of these faster games I hear about.

The only minor downside is if there are certain cards that are important to and endgame, or preferred by a players group. If only one or two of such are in the deck, the bigger the deck gets, the smaller the chance those needed or preferred cards will appear.

I don't foresee Talisman ever having a "commercial" endgame that would require a certain set of Adventure cards; if it ever did, that goodness for those expansion marks, so one could easily thin down to the base deck for such a special type of game.

Mind Steal, Lighting Bolt, Feeble Mind, Mini Vortex, Spell Turning, Temporary Change, Curse, Way of the Lotus,

(+ Warp Gate for timescape only...)

So we need only 8 a 9 spell cards until we have them all gran_risa.gif

Updating again..

Chinese Dragon= Eastern Dragon

24 old retro cards left.. ( for mainboard)

Not counting new regions, and dragons expansion

I would also like to see more reprints of old favourites. (I suspect, for example, that Judge and Taxation will appear in a new City expansion.)

However, note that many of the reprints we have already seen are different in functionality from the original card of the same name, sometimes to the point of being entirely new cards in effect (eg Howl of the Wendigo and Astral Conjunction). In most cases, though, I am happy with the changes, including the decision to reprint 3rd edition Centaur rather than 2nd edition.

I see i forgot the Archer in the list.. sorpresa.gif

25 retro cards left... lengua.gif

You have a point about the Judge and Taxation.

The best location for that, is the City expansion.

The other cards that would be a spot for that region will be Halloween, Secret Door and Man at arms

Also Vampire's like to stalk late in the night on streets, where humans walk by.. demonio.gif

I like to bite someone in the neck demonio.gif

Volcano and the Harpies, will probably be coming with the Mountain expansion gran_risa.gif

It will make the most sense gui%C3%B1o.gif But you never know off course..

(Altar and Giant Spiders are for the mainboard now) Vampire Bats are for the dungeon now, with a new ability

Update again, oh man..

I forgot the Doom Sword( similar to Runesword, but now for evil characters), Body Guard, and Squire( +lost file Market day for trading)

Adding to the list now. ( 28 retro cards left for the mainboard)

1. Talisman – base game
2. The Reaper - 128 cards
3. The Dungeon – some thematic cards as Lesser Demon or Cave Troll has been take from Reaper - 128 Dungeon cards + the rest
4. The Frostmarch – 128 cards
5. Mountains – new corner board and new harder/mystic way to get CoC by high Mountains - some thematic cards would be taken from Frostmarch (and Mountains/Forrest from 3rd edition) – 128 Mountains card + the rest (Spells + Dungeon cards and base game cards)
6. The Denizens – 128 cards – expansions about Denizens of the land of Talisman - we do not know much about them yet. Why some of them are going to take the magical crown? Do they have alleys in common people? What about King’s favorite? There can be more applications for alignment and benefits from it - good characters can be supported by good denizens while evil ones can find alleys in bad guys. More ways to spend a gold on the main board and more interacting with other characters. Stronger enemies also nice viewed.
7. The City - 128 City cards and lots for Purchase Desk + new powerful characters which can be changed in only in the City by completing some quests.
8. Dragons – 128 cards including lots of strong enemies cards from Purchase Desk, new thematic Spells and of course Dragon King - the Red one form base game box should appear as a appear as a Alternative Ending.
9. The Wastelands - new corner board – imagine that land of Talisman is surrounded by great Sea where Strom River runs… On the Great Sea there are many islands some of them are friendly some very dangerous. In this expansion can be used new mechanics (as in was in Timescape). Characters can travel but do not know on which island strong wind will take them. At last island character can find Old Dragon the one who knows the way of flying to CoC and if he defeated and enslaved him he can become of dragon raider. Then on an Old Dragon’s crest it can fly to CoC space… It would be 4th way of getting CoC: main board way, via high Mountains, by dungeons and at least by air.
10. The Tower – 128 cards – increasing the difficulties of reaching the CoC space by main board.

My list would be:

Big: Base game

Small: The Reaper expansion

Big: The Dungeon expansion

Small: The Frostmarch expansion

Big: The Mountain expansion

Small: Dark&Light expansion ( new fate token rule)

Big: City expansion

Small: ( let's say a Desert expansion( a lot of raiders, return of the Sphinx card. New templates with (draw 2) for the middle region

Big: The Forest expansion

Small: Dragon expansion

Big: Dragon Tower

Small: The Wildernis expansion ( contains lot's of traps and retro cards+ new ones

Big: The Revenge of the king ( The king takes revenge on the Dragon cultists, and help his people against the Dragon Clan, who are worshipping the Evil Dragon King. A deck of 128 cards, that contains War between dragons and Kings !

For the moment all small expansions had sall 128 cards (including Adventure + Spells + Warlock Quests etc.) and 4 characters. Big ones 128 Adventure + the rest so about 150 small cards + 5 characters. I think it will be continued in the future so at the end we can receive very nice set gui%C3%B1o.gif .

I also hope that all retro cards will apear in this revised edition and changes will be for better only (not like Spider which lost it's web abbility llorando.gif ). Of course I wait also for new cards and think that this edition have potential to be the greatest aplauso.gif . All the arts are superb.

I agree.

There is only a handful ( 28) retro cards left for mainboard . (not counting from regions yet)

That's not much, compare to expansions(reaper, Frostmarch) that have 90 adventure cards each lengua.gif

Luckily, we can use house rules, to give the cards their real nasty ability back ! demonio.gif

Now tell me how many cards the adventure cards deck will have at the end. cool.gif

Probably enough to kill somebody if the deck falls from a cupboard on his head.

There were two 2nd ed card sets that appeared in White Dwarf. One supplemented the Master Level characters in the city. As we don't have 4th ed city and hence ML characters, I think we can reserve judgement on Noble, Mark of Chaos and Recruiter. The other was in WD 60-something. I don't recall the card list off-hand, but I seem to recall a whole bunch of new spells - Enrich, Bladesharp and Bolster, as well as Closed Shop (gets rid of all strangers) and Curfew (can't visit places for three turns)

I wouldn't expect to see GW trademarks like Skaven or Rat Ogre any time soon. It's probably not worth the legal hassle.

Talisman Island once had a bunch of concept cards that never made it beyond the concept like Bull (Animal, Str 3). It'd be nice for those cards to finally see the light of day.

That was the format used in the 3rd edition of Talisman -

It has also been alluded to by the feature that was published in Game Trade Magazine -

"Surrounding the land of Talisman are four great kingdoms known as Regions. Each Region offers great opportunities,as well as terrible dangers, for adventurers brave enough to enter them. This expansion allows you to enter one of these extraordinary areas – the Dungeon Region ruled by the dreaded Lord of Darkness."

TI, Any chance you could publish a link to those 3rd Ed corner boards on Talisman Island. I tried to save and magnify them, but I can't read the writing. Thanks.

Three posts in a row. I wish they'd provide an Edit facility in these forums!

Back at home and able to check out my sets a little more closely. It looks like Bull has been made into a card. The cards from White Dwarf come from White Dwarf #72. They've all been turned into cards, although Resurrection as provided by FFG is functionally different to the original Resurrection. the original text is:

Cast this spell as required. When cast, it permits you to take a defeated enemy card held by another player towards gaining strength. The resurrected Enemy will add its strength to yours for one combat after which you must discard it.

The new version is far less useful. It reads:

Cast after a character kills an Enemy during an attack. the attack is considered a stand-off and the enemy remains on the space.

Handy if you wanted to kill that Dragon I guess, but I'd far rather gain a temporary boost and steal someone's experience stack whilst I'm at it. Maybe they'll give us a Raise Dead spell in the next expansion.

A lot of googling eventually told me roughly what Karak Doom does (See http://www.livingcardgame.org/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=49&efcid=1&efidt=283365&efpag=5 ) post 78. I'm sure we'll see some custom cards for a 4th ed Morak's Hammer to be put on the Lost City. (I guess a Rune Blade could be added to the Monster Pit in the Dungeon too...) Still not sure what the Abyss does and whether it has been functionally replaced. I'd like to know what the special squares (Swampland and Mystic Glade are mentioned) in the forest are too.

Handy Links. I searched so you don't have too :)
