Senator's Shuttle and MkII Asteroids
Your little senator's shuttle model is really cool!
What I don't like about 3D asteroids on stands is: What do you do if your ship lands on an asteroid? It's also a hassle if you have to fly over an asteroid — you have to remove the model and stand to put the maneuver template down.
The way asteroids work in this game kinda requires you to have flat asteroids, unfortunately, even though the 3D model asteroids look much cooler.
Love em both.
I disagree entirely Danthrax. When I say they are removeable, I mean the flight stand lifts out the base to leave the clear flat perspex 'token' on its own so you can do your maneuvers.
My first attempts were glued, and I redesigned the base for exactly the reasons you state.
Edited by EggsI'm with Danthrax on this one. The asteroids look fantastic, but the 2D tokens are better for ease of play.
Can't argue about that Senator's Shuttle, it is wonderful.
This came up during a game the other day. I was telling someone about these awesome asteroid models I had seen on this site (your mk 1s), but that they were a little impractical for gameplay. He said just make the bases the shape of the tokens w/ removeable stems... Nice to see you're a step ahead on this! Very cool work, I want your shuttle... Thanks for sharing! ![]()
These look very nice. Though I'd say putting the clear base over the card token and lifting the whole thing off when you overlap leaving the card one is easier then removing the stem.
How did you get that shuttle?!? It looks great!
I thought about picking up another shuttle for team games. I absolutely love that mission but I don't think it would be nearly as fun without the shuttle mini. Here is mine.

They are 3D printed from Shapeways.

As viceroy says, they are 3d printed. They come hollow though, so I sculpted the underside. Base is from corsec engineering. I splurged for the shapeways base, but wasn't impressed with it.
Very nice shuttle and mk II asteroids sound nice as well.
Nice work!

Cardboard counters and movement templates and such on the table yes, yes indeed.
Cardboard Asteroids?
...Hell Nah!!!

Was tempted to pick one up until I noted the cost.........
Could buy another starter for that.
A shame
If the 3d asteroid bases match the card board ones why not put the cards under the clear 3d base. Ned to move or lands on one you just remove the 3d until your done. Problem solved
I love the paint job, but UGH I wish the 3D printed plastic was smoother!

I'm assembling a Valkyrie from GW's Aeronautica Imperialis line as my shuttle proxy for this exact reason.

Washing the model under warm water with a soft brush will remove the excess printing resude which causes those lines. Additionally, printing in higher material also diminishes print lines.
I actually built up a few laters of gloss coat which smoothed things off a bit.
I totally understand that you would make it similar in size to the original token.
However, I wonder why the original token has the shuttle being so small. At 80m, CSS-1 Corellian Star Shuttle is closer to being the size of the GR-75 transport (which is 90m, and comparatively scaled down compared to the sizes of our fighters).

Dangit man. I was totally going to get one of these with the base, until you said that. Now I can't look at it the same.
Stupid OCD and making me want EVERYTHING to scale
Now that it's in my head, I can never forget!
