Upgrade Handling?

By arunwe2012, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello,

I only currently possess core so I don't know if in any other manual this upgrade appears but, is there a way to improve handling of a ship?

Without making up your own attachment, no, there is not (currently) such an attachment written up.

Are there rules covering how to make up your own attachments?

No, there are not. It's a freeform right now. We might get such rules later (Technician career expansion?).

Technician and/or smuggler career books will probably have more attachments and modding options for starships. Until then you can always just convert the increased handling attachment from Jewel of Yavin to larger vessels.

Thanks for the tip. I was thinking about getting that adventure for my group anyway, so double benefit. Thank you!

If I were to make up an upgrade it would be something like the following.

Vectored maneuvering thrusters:

Cost: 2000 times sillouette. Rarity 4

Hard points: 2

Increase ship handling by 1

Additional modifications: none

Ship size: 2-10

I really wish most vehicle upgrades were priced based on Silhouette. It makes my brain hurt that a Hyperdive Generator for a Bulk Cruiser costs no more than one for a YT-1300.

There is probably a line somewhere.

The Hyperdrive for a Firespray and a YT-1300 would probably cost the same.

But for Capital ships vs Freighters vs Fighters the cost would be different.

So not based on silhouette but on silhouette ranges.

The Firespray and the YT-1300 are both Silhouette 4, so it makes sense they'd pay the same amount.

So, then we get back to the idea as espoused by HappyDaze that costs of these things should be based on their Silhouette.

This is the attachment that appears in JoY.

MANEUVERING THRUSTERS

Small thrusters attached to the exterior chassis of

a vehicle increase how responsive it is during flight.

The application or these varies considerably. from the

crude strapping of rocket or jet packs to the outside

of a vehicle to the careful addition of a completely

separate fuel line to grant extended use. Maneuvering

thrusters may only be attached to vehicles of silhouette

2 or lower.

Models Include: Arakyd Aerodrive Thruster Augmentation

System. SoroSuub CornerTech Maneuvering

Thruster.

Base Modifiers: Add one to the vehicle's handling.

Modification Options: None.

Hard Points Required: I .

Price: 500 times silhouette in credits.

You'll notice the attachments in JoY are for Silhouette 2 vehicles, none of which you'd likely want to take into space....

I don't have my core but I thought that ship mod prices were multiplied by the silhouette or am I imagining that? See prices from previous post as example:

I think some are and some are not.

Anyway, that JoY upgrade seems both too cheap and kinda sucky at the same time. It seems both too cheap for simply allowing it to go up to higher silhouettes. 500xsilhouette seems too cheap for a really good upgrade. And its also lame because you basically can only put it on speeders.

It also can, technically, be attached to non-flying vehicles.

According to the list on CRB:271, Enhanced Armor and Retrofitted Hangar Bay are priced per Silhouette. The others are not. In particular, the Hyperdrive and Ion Engine upgrades are not priced per Silhouette.

well, i guess when you get to the bigger silhouettes, modding them could require that you house rule the silhouette multiplier.
