Ahem, Time to Release a Storage Case FFG...

By R22, in X-Wing

I'm just saying. They'd make a killing. I'm personally using the Plano Double Cover 5231 * It fits fighters perfectly, plus one of each big ship. That is, it did until today. So c'mon FFG. Make a case with generic sized slots for small base ships and then removable individualized slots for large ships. Heck, call it a Tournament Bag and give it just enough to carry 300pts worth of ships and all the necessary tokens. God knows most ships end up in storage except the numbers we need. Huge ships get their own mini bag like a dock kit.

Oh, and include a binder with plastic sleeves that actually fit the miniature cards. Sell it separately even. I'm still going to get it. Because now I need it.

A better option would be for them to officially team up with someone to do it. FFG's core competency is game design, not foam design.

There is already somone who specialises in this..FFG should focus on the game.

But why wouldn't they subcontract in order to get a share of the money that's available, and send lawyers after the 3rd party people for IP infringement?

I used a shoebox and a 4 pack of 1" thick foam seat cushion pads from Walmart to make a case for my Corvette and transport, just gotta cut extra slots for the bases, stands, and templates.

To be honest the boutique figure case business is a real ripoff, that stuff is sooooooo easy to engineer yourself with old box, some foam pads, a pen, a ruler, and an Xacto knife.

$78 for an empty case:

Then $15 to $18 for each layer of foam?

Battle foam does a great job, lot of options and has what you need.

I'm sure it's great, I ordered one with my Robotech Tactics Kickstarter because it's got an RDF logo and I've got a double box set of stuff coming. That said for ships like Star Wars minis Battlefoam/GW style cases are way overkill, all of my ships have been floating around in a Plano tackle box for almost a year and nothing has broken yet.

IANAL, but... I'm reasonably sure that you can't patent / copyright shapes that happen to fit your models. This would also be extremely bad press.

Because doing so means taking out people who support the game and help "advertise" it for free for them. They would also probably end up spending more on legal fees trying to negotiate a contract with some one else, and then to chase after everyone who makes third party addons. Doing so would probably alienate some of their fans who might switch to Attack Wing, (Yes FFG would probably make some money from the deal they have with WhizKids, but it would be less than X-wing)

Also they are FFG not GW don't try to make the good guys go over to the dark side.
