Honestly Thought We Would See Something Like A TIE Scout Before This

By Corellian Corvette, in X-Wing

Maybe its just me, but the Tie Scout Seemed a bit more common than the VT-whatever.

There seems to be 2 variants to the TIE Scout on Wookiee, One where it is a 24 meter one that is stupidly big and not well thought out, then there is the 24 foot one, where it is like a TIE Advanced with funny wings and a compartment on top. It is not model variants, but errors in describing it.

180px-CCG_Limited_Premier.jpg The 24 meter one, dunno the source.

250px-Eaw_tie-scout.jpg 200px-ImperialStarfighters-RECG.jpg The Fighter sized variant, with the standard cockpit and less crazy wings. Best known from EaW.

Just saying, even though I'm not an Imperial player, It would of been cool to see this in the game, not the freighter sized version, but the bomber sized version.

2 Attack

2 Evade

5 Hull

0 Shields

Upgrade-Wise, It would have a crew slot (everything seems to have a crew slot now a'days!) and an Advanced Sensors Slot, and provide fleet support, with a maneuver dial like a Bombers and fly in formation with a flight of TIEs, providing AreaOfEffect buffs.

Maybe its just me, but this seemed more plausible (until today) that we would see more TIE variants before large ships.

I respectfully disagree. The Rebels have a lot of decent turret ships and I feel it was more important that the Imperials get an answer to that as well as something not as predictable as another TIE Fighter.

That is really ugly.

My "expected" list was

TIE Avenger

Assault Gunboat

Some kind of large ship (I had predicted the Skipray Blastboat, but the VT-49 fills a similar role)

maybe the missile boat and/or scimitar assault bomber

maybe chiss clawcraft or whatever, but basically I didn't and still don't expect to see many super obscure TIE variants like the scout

Need unlike button. Don't like that the variant at all. Go with a cool tie variant at least: droid, predator, chiss clawcraft/hunter.

I expected another imperial big to answer the rebel huges. Decimater delivers.

The source is it was art from old decipher ccg. It was a tie with hyper space

I figured if we get a tie scout it might come with the Jam action to make it stand apart from the other tie variants.

The Tie Scout feels like the Tie Crawler, just make a tie out of everything because the designers/artists have no imagination. I'm really glad we didn't get that. It's the kind of design you get when there's no quality oversight.

and doesn't make sense from a design stand point. Why have a massive windowed cockpit?

I'm pretty sure they got the idea and design from the WEG roleplay game

I'm with you on the Tie/D but the chiss clawcraft and hunter are ugly to me, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I'd much rather have the Tie Scout, I love the look of the old 90's CCG version.

I feel it would bring something new to the Imp side in having a support craft that could buff friendly's or jam opponents.

I wanna see some time of missile boat something with like 3 missile slots amd 2 torpedo slots. Give it like 1 attack dice and an auxillary firing arc like the firespray that it can shoot ordinance from.

Out of all the ships we've gotten so far, and that people have suggested I think that one is the ugliest.

I like the idea of maybe a bomber like ship with sensors though

Ugly is in the eyes of the beholder. I personally think that it looks pretty good, and I like the Idea of a Bomber type support craft.

The TIE scout isn't a large ship like the VT. This is a wave of large turretships.

The TIE Scout is at least not as bad as the TIE Oppressor... no balance to that design with that off-center third wing.

I like the TIE Scout (and the TIE Vanguard), but I can't see a role for them in X-Wing. Not yet anyway. Not without introducing a new upgrade type that only works for scout craft like this. Rebel counterpart would probably be the Y-Wing Longprobe.

Because the Tie Bomber exists I don't see why designers felt the need to do a strange boxy thing for scouting surveillance stuff - just say a Tie Bomber missile pod has been replaced with sensor equipment and upgrade the engine. Put a single laser cannon on the back and you have an instant new ship. The Tie Bomber second pod should be used for all sorts of things... making it like many multi-role military vehicles in the the modern/real world

- Of course... it wouldn't look any different so designers might be accused of being lazy - but think of the opportunities for FFG - just a deck of cards could turn the Tie Bomber into all sorts of multirole awesomeness... sadly if they want a clever scout then this seems to be what we might get :(

I definitely prefer the Tie Oppressor to the scout... the scout looks like the TieTourBus or TieFreightTrain

TIE_Oppressor.jpg

This at least looks like a variant of the Tie... it's small - probably cheap to make but has a large under-side to strap missiles to for its light fight/bomber role...

The scout just looks like a barn with a cockpit on the front. Bleh! :)

Correct, Wave 5 is about large turreted ships, I was saying that I would of expected more Utility craft like the TIE Scout, before we got something like a VT, a ship I have hardly ever heard of before, and doing research into it reveals its about as well known as a Imperial Escort Carrier with the storm commandos.

What about the advanced sensor upgrade slot? I'm sure with a sensor upgrade and a crew upgrade (designed to fit 1-3 people) and pilot abilities that it would be a great support ship.

TIE Oppressor looks like TIE ThirdGrader Star Wars project. Let's paste another wing on it, because it's cool! And then stick this other model kit part on the bottom, because it's cool!

Besides we all know the real space bus is the TIE Star Cruiser .

I'm talking about something like area support abilities, or things that you see on big ships like support or jamming. THe problem is many abilities that would be good support abilities are already linked to ace pilots, so equipment items doing the same thing aren't going to leave the same impact. I just don't think that these EW craft are going to support themselves, by combat role they are going to support the rest of the fleet at expense of firepower. And they need to be worth the weight in points you'd be sacrificing on other ships as well.

Imperials have the Lambda for their support role. Didn't make sense for them to be outclassed by the Rebels in the Boom Department.

Right there with you, but, for me, this applies to everything outside the TIE, Advanced, Bomber, and Interceptor.

Still missing the predator... one of the coolest ties out there.

A few of those look like tie over compensation

Okay, and you feel this way because those were the ones in the movies. But couldn't you then also say that the movie designers also lacked design imagination?

Believe me, most of the TIEs in the image that Corellian Corvette posted are absolute abominations. Too many of them (TIE Phantom and Defender included) came out of computer games (and many should remain there). But the TIE Scout does have a bit longer of a pedigree.

Now, I'm not sure why Correllian Corvette is expressing his distaste for the TIE Shuttle (in the Sentinel thread). Certainly it can't be any uglier than the TIE Bomber, given that it's the same craft but with a replaced secondary pod. The same goes for the TIE Boarding Craft.

The thing is, many of the TIE Bomber variants make a lot of sense to me.
