Decimator VT49 - speculation/tactics

By TurnDamage, in X-Wing

How exciting! A new glorious ship to chase the rebels back to their holes!

Right off the bat, looking at how many hull points this guy has, Darth Vader is going to be very happy on this ship. Also considering he's got 360 degrees, and doesn't actually need to hit the target, the Deci will be putting crits on people EVERY TURN. That's really not too shabby!

We can see that from the upgrades: elite pilot, torpedo, 3 crew (!!!), 1 mine.

What other upgrades would you put on this thing? How would you use it?

Also, in case you're straining to read, the top pilot for the VT49 ability is:

When attacking at Range 1-2, you
may change 1 of your [eye] results
to a [crit] result.

It is a lot of hull, but I'm not sure about Vader on it. Just a quick estimate makes the cheapest ship somewhere in the 37 point mark, that is 40 for it and Vader, and that is a lot of cheddar.

No

There is a big sign by the entrance

No vader allowed

Id personally use the flypaper technique.

Ive been testing it alot lately (with the Phantom release soon) and it seems cool.

Ion Cannon + Tactician + Mara Jade + Rebel Captive.

Basically hit them or let them shoot you, stun em, let em drift into you and never escape while your support craft do the killing. I know Tactician only works in front arc but thats how you capture 'victim' #1 then Mara keeps applying the pressure.

If theres a better option (recon specialist/Something i havent seen yet? Imperial Officer?) then try that as i realise Tactician on a fairly static ship wont be active all that often, especially when its plan is to draw them in though its a decent first shot.

I see a jedi prisoner, ysanne isard crew cards. Interesting to see issard being brought in. Looks like a new condition card (starts with an U). Seems linked to rear admirals ship specil ability.

Vader will be great on the VT49 as a finishing blow sort of thing. How often do you have an enemy clinging on to that last HP and dodging shots like crazy? Vader on a Shuttle can be avoided in such a case, but Vader on the VT49 is essentially the perfect tool to eliminate weakened ships with.

I LOVE the idea of the DeciVader. Perhaps wouldn't use it every shot, but if I had an Interceptor flying around, or as you say, a ship close to death, it could be an easy way to bag some kills. Especially with Gunner filling another of those three crew seats.

I agree. You don't have to use Vader every time you attack. But if after an attack, if the enemy is sitting there with 2 hull, yeah let Vader go nuts. You just might knock off that ship.

No cannon slot that's the YT-2400, Ion torpedoes would be your only hope

Ion+Tactician+Mara might actually work on a Blocking Lambda...hmm

The VT49 is so Ugly and Beautiful that it makes me want to play Empire. I cannot wait to field whatever Huge ships they get then max out on these ships.

On the tactics side of things. I know that you can only perform a single action once. But if you pay for 2 Fleet officers can I use squad leader and the ships primary action to activate both cards?

Think the VT49 would make a great AWACS/SWACS.

Plus, taking vader still leave 2 crew members to go crazy with. I'm very excited about Decivader

game plan:

step 1 = put decimator on the table

step 2 = use decimator to decimate

step 3 = be glad you didnt put vader in the decimator when you win with 1 hull point remaining

Huh, I thought this thing had a Turret? Is it just meant to have so many guns that it has 360° shooting?

The primary weapon is turreted like the falcon, it does not have a turret upgrade option (like the HW or Y-wing)

step 1 = put decimator on the table

I think i would rather kill more than 1 out of every 10th thing... but other than that i approve of this plan!

Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed, it's power is nothing.... er it has no agility.

Good to see some support abilities for the Imperials in the form of crew and that VT-49 is a bit of a tank. I foresee some very interesting Epic games in the future.

I am very interested in that last card, that appears to be something called "Target" or -maybe "Tactical"- "Jammer."

I wonder what it does?

I would guess at "Targeting Jammer: modification, Large Only; increase Agility by 1"

step 1 = put decimator on the table

step 2 = use decimator to decimate

For those that don't know, the word "decimate" comes from a practice in the early Roman Republic whereby a group of soldiers were punished by being separated into groups of ten. Whichever one of the ten drew the short straw was executed by the other nine. Usually when people say "decimate," it would be more correct to say "devastate" or "annihilate."

game plan:

step 1 = put decimator on the table

step 2 = use decimator to decimate

step 3 = be glad you didnt put vader in the decimator when you win with 1 hull point remaining

Step 4 = make her open the box

I am curious what the ruthless(ness?) EPT does that comes with the ship. The preview shows it coming with 2 copies which seems to imply that FFG thinks it will be a desirable card that people will not want to buy multiple copies of an expensive ship to acquire.

Also since the VT-49 can equip EPTs I want to run it with daredevil for maximum silliness

Daredevil?? Why not expose? Has no down sides. It's agility is already 0

It's not a matter of being good, it's the idea of this monstrosity doing a hard 1 turn

or expert handling, a barrel roll is fine too

Chiraneau plus Predator. Reroll one or two dice, and turn an eyeball into a crit. Add Fleet Officer to pass focus tokens to the rest of your squad, because you won't really need them yourself.

Edit: Expose has already been math-winged to be less valuable than a Focus or Target Lock.
