Would you buy Wave 5, if not for upgrades?

By zlynn22, in X-Wing

I understand a lot of people are very familiar with the Outrider and have been waiting for it a long time. Other than that, I have exhausted the ships I'm familiar with in this game. Now, I am very very excited for Wave IV, I love the E-Wing (I'm even hoping to see a K-Wing one day). But these new ships just seem so out of place compared to the others we have in the game so far.

I know, there have been lots of discussions so far about what will happen when the ships are no longer iconic, and I always thought to myself "I love this game, I don't care if I recognize the ships or not!" But, seeing those pictures, I realized... I do care.

What about you guys? I know people will buy these sets for the (possibly power creeping) upgrades, but I must say I probably won't buy more than one of each. (Instead of my usual 3 or 4 small ships and minimum 2 large ships).

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes

I will buy wave 5

Edit I just went to min market and ordered 1 of each seeing there on the page now.

Well there you go. You'll be buying one of each. Job done as far as FFG are concerned surely?

I've got very little at the moment, and I'd need to significantly up my game to consider them. I still forget to action, so taking on those guys is far out of my mind at the moment!

The outrider is one of the few ships that was in the movies that hadn't been brought into the game yet, so I have no problem with it. The decimator i'm less familiar with, but it looks cool, and fits to me so...oh yeah, these just sky rocketed onto my wish list.

So I knew we would have one of these threads. It's inevitable with any release, but wow, that was fast. We don't even know the majority of the cards yet.

It's certainly an interesting decision to use a fairly unknown, non-iconic ship for the largest, most expensive expansion so far (outside of epic play). Maybe they're testing the waters for a non-iconic huge Imperial ship.

Yeah, I have no connection to the Decimator, but it looks awesome. Also, just the idea of 2 of those bad boys rolling across the field during an Epic game, flanked by a full complement of TIEs? That just totally fits the feel of the Empire.

How is this a question?

Would I?

I had my own Decimator in Star Wars Galaxies, built using a crap ton of resources and decorated to boot. I'd buy it for the fond memories alone :)

Two of each.

I am going to run 6 :-p

Yes, even if the Decimator came without good upgrades I'd buy it ... 'cause I'm a Imperial Navy/Zaarin Insurrection-player and want a 2nd big ship (Firespray is not Imperial, doesn't count)

Would I?

Yeah, I don't have much to add to this.

And think of the modding crowd!

2 VT and 3 Outrider

And think of the modding crowd!

All of those poor bastards who modded their Falcons into YT-2400s are weeping into their cups.

I want one of each, I want Many of those upgrade cards (the non unique obviously) :P

Yes, yes I would. And that Decimator is so damned pretty, I may get 2.

1 of each to start, but yes mainly for the upgrades. My personal meta isnt for large ships. I've hardly ever used my shuttle or slave and I never got (and maybe wont ever get) the falcon.

But, I see a LOT of potential in the upgrades for other ships (Phantom especially) so I will grab them. Probably only use them in casual play really.

Ion torp incoming woot woot

Now for those who made custom outriders, as long as the cards and everything else is the same, could you use your own model instead of the new one?

Dash is likely to become a new staple in my lists. He checks all the boxes for me.

Ship I know and like

Agile Rebel Big Ship (2 Agi)

BARREL ROLL stock

HLC

TURRET HLC

Dash has an awesome pilot ability

Synergy between ship and upgrades

I wish Dash's pilot skill was higher, but 7 is becoming a new Rebel standard to, as I assume, save points.

I will get a Decimator as well for how it changes Imp playstyle, and luckily I only need one.

I'll be buying two of each (to start)... Because I have a problem.

...and an understanding wife.

One of each for me
