Bring Out the Big Guns! Wave 5 announcement

By dvorm, in X-Wing

How the Fleet Officer would but the Lambda back on the map has been discussed here already but anybody noticed how well a OGP+FO would synergize with both named Defender-Pilots? I think the "too expensive" Defender might have it's day with Wave 5 arround...

I wonder how/if the much maligned Expose EPT would work on the Decimator. Increase attack by one, reduce agility by one - but how would you do that with base 0?

The Agility penalty won't work if a Dcimator has Expose--but as someone pointed out upthread, the problem is that 4 points is steep for an upgrade that's still worse on average than the focus action.

If only there was a way for imperials to pass focus tokens......

It's also going to get flayed in Epic Games against Corvettes. Say hello to my little friend: the Single Turbolaser.

Sorry if this has already been discussed:

Did anyone notice that the Decimator comes with an evade token and the 2400 doesn't? Perhaps one of the Decimator's cards grants it some evade tokens.

I guessing intimidate gives it a token somehow vs. Lower PS pilots. Or it would be cool if ruthless gives it one after it kills a ship; would be even better if it doesn't go away until you spend it.

The wave 4 announcement shows the defender with evade token. That led to the same discussion.

So, looking at the pics, I see Ysanne Isard, Rear Admiral ???, a 12 hull, 4 shield MONSTER on the Imperial side.. Rear Admiral Whatshisface gives us "When attacking at Range 1-2 you may change one of your FOCUS results to a CRIT result.

Anyone make out anything else on the Imperial side??

Rear Admiral Chiraneau.

He was on the Executor during the Battle of Endor.

Dash is flyin' in your asteroids
He's HLC'in your people up
Try'na shoot em so y'all need to
Hide your Fel, hide your TIEs
Hide your Fel, hide your TIEs
Hide your Fel, hide your TIEs
And hide your Howlrunner cuz they're shootin' everybody out here
You don't have to SD and HU
Dash is lookin for you
He gon find you He gon find you
So you can run and tell that,
Run and tell that
Run and tell that, Flyboy
Fly, Fly, Flyboy

Trying to figure out what melody to put this to..

It's not worth putting Fleet Officer on a Shuttle or Phantom just to feed focus tokens to a 40+ point ship with no agility. This thing is going to need a supporting cast.

Well I hate to bring the one to bring it up again but the "Is Jan to friendly with herself?" Debate will probably resume with the FO's wording, but that is one possible scenario, also there will be other ships that will benefit from focus passing(and doing it 2 at a time is awesome) so it is less of a waste if you do it to pass 1 to the VT and 1 to an ordnance carrying bomber for example

Is that a Colonel Jendon crew card?

Possibly, nice catch, though the top line would be to short for colonel, maybe they've created a first name for him?

No, it's Moff Jerjerrod. The art matches up with the LCG.

It would be kind of cool if the Decimator got a reinforce action from a mod.

0 agility will hurt. The dial and the title will make or break this ship. If I'm seeing this correctly this thing has a green 2 bank so it will be fairly fast and able to drop stress. Maybe evasion wouldn't be a bad choice? This ship is a no go for epic games though. Corvette with turbo lasers will eat it, unless it has something going for it that hasn't been seen. I really want to like this ship but there are a lot of problems that may or may not be a problem when we find out more.

The new YT may be pretty good even without the turret secondary, but it should be amazing with it. Get an ion cannon on dash and get in the asteroid field. If they get close enough you ion them right into the asteroids and watch them go boom. Or play the edge and send them right off the edge.

Lando's ability seems appropriate and kind of cool.

Everyone is forgetting the hole at range 1 that heavy laser cannon turret will leave, but barrel roll may help with that.

This thing could take Hans place in the 2 YT build. 2 agility and a heavy laser turret along with barrel roll to get room to shoot and get out of arcs. Crazy stuff.

Mara Jade is pretty good as well.

Fleet officer may be the best crew imperials have to date.

Lots of good new options.

Fleet officer may be the best crew imperials have to date.

Problem with him: He needs a ship with crew slot that can handle stress.

Lambda? No. Firespray? Maybe. VT-49? Depends on the dial. Phantom? Not a support ship.

The FO might be best on a huge ship which discards stress immediately. Better than a coordinate action. Or on a lambda near a comms booster.

Any ship can handle stress when there's a Black Squadron Pilot + Wingman hanging out nearby.

Anybody else notice that the debris clouds reflect each ship's faction enemies? The VT-49 has Rebel ships (shattered B-wing and X-wing) and the YT-2400 has TIE/Ln and TIE/Bm solar panels and cockpit pods.

That's a nice touch. Very classy FFG.

going to spend your points on a Defender or Phantom now ppl????

I was already planning on it, wave 5 won't change that.

Or Capt Yorr hanging around with a different of those awesome crew cards (hopefully one that can be used while stressed)

Cannot reduce agility to less than zero. So the negative does nothing.

If you have only a single action, focus will result in more damage than expose.

Yes, expose is that bad. There are only a few scenarios where expose increases damage output.

I so wanted the card to work that I forgot about the action requirement... Maybe we'll get some sort of double-action crew...

Two ship squads are going to be a thing. Mark my words.

A fully decked out Decimator and Defender? A Phantom dancing circles around the brute force of a Decimator?

Sure.

Wow both of these ships make my sphincter cry out in agony...These are Baaad assss and Baaaad to the bone...Gonna have to sell off some old minis now lol...I guess wave 5 is only to large ships ?

Few questions on Decimator, for people with good enchance image skills:

1. Is it really tureted ship for Imps?

2. What upgrades can it use (is it really 3 crew)

2 . Do I really see Ysane Isard crew?

1. Yes.

2. All have a torpedo, THREE crew, and a bomb slot. There are Three uniques, ALL with EPTs.

3. There is clearly visible a card that says Ysan-- so I would assume this is Ysane Isard.

Is this ship close enough to an ISD that people will be happy with it? I like how it resembles one, has the Tie Phantomesque cockpit, a R2 dome on top and still reminds me of that speeder Zam Wesell used in Attack of the Clones

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it the Empire does not have an upgrade option that allows them to recover shield. The Rebels have R2-D2 (Astromech AND Crew) and Chewbacca. I really think the Decimator, with its zero agility, needs a way to recharge those shield points. Maybe I'm wrong, as it is currently the ship with the most total HP, but I really don't think it will be hard to focus it down, especially with a lot of attackers.

You forgot about R5-P9.

The Tac(tical) Ja(mmer) is unknown, so maybe even the name isn't correct. (My first fanciful hope/imagination was something that would allow astromechs to be jacked in :P) And there's one mod unaccounted for.

This should be a great pick for Determination. Oh, I have 12 hull? Probably going to take some crits in there, especially with all the ways Rebels have to stick crits on you. Let's discard a third of those hits.

It looks like it also comes with a mod that is either Imp only, Large Ship only or Decimator Only that could help with that damage problem.

Aye, that's a very nice touch indeed.

Another great wave coming up.

Well done yet again FFG! :)
