Bring Out the Big Guns! Wave 5 announcement

By dvorm, in X-Wing

I'm a few pages behind on posts, but did anyone notice the Boost card that comes with YT-2400? It doesn't have an Engine Upgrade card, so SOMETHING in there is going to give the YT-2400 Boost!

Also, it comes with a Gunner card! I didn't want to buy another Firespray, so this is nice!

Also, Fleet Officer on a ship with Advanced Sensors, anyone?"

I love the difference between Lando's and Han's crew abilities. Han takes the gamble out of your Target Lock, and Lando puts the gamble Into the Focus.

Remember who won the Millennium Falcon from whom in a game of Sabaac?

Alright, so the breakdown of Lando's odds are:

4/64 :|: gaining 2 Focus tokens

9/64 :|: gaining 0 Tokens

9/64 :|: gaining 2 Evade tokens

12/64 :|: gaining 1 Focus token

12/64 :|: gaining 1 Focus token and 1 Evade token

18/64 :|: gaining 1 Evade token

So, appx 14% of the time, you have wasted your action, appx 39% of the time you have gained 2 tokens, and appx 47% of the time you have gained a Focus or Evade token without having performed a Focus or Evade action.

Moreover, appx 60% of the time you will have received at least 1 Evade token, and appx 44% of the time you will have received at least 1 Focus token.

It also looks like Lando and Han's crew cards are two sides of one image.

Yes, those same images have been used in the LCG.

It depicts Han playing Lando in a game of Sabacc, where he won the Falcon from Lando.

Conclusion: Outrider + Heavy Laser cannon looks to be very good. You can easily build a squad around this. Note that you can't use Gunner here.

Outrider + HLC has a problem at range 1. Can that figure into the calculation?

It can, I haven't yet though. Right now I assume it can make a range 1 shot with 4 dice. Realistically the 360 degree arc should help ensure that, but that's also reflected in the 1.6 arc coefficient, so I could be double counting. Will update my post, good point.

Well, not with the Outrider title because you won't have primary shots anymore and the HLC only functions at ranges 2 to 3.

I wonder how/if the much maligned Expose EPT would work on the Decimator. Increase attack by one, reduce agility by one - but how would you do that with base 0?

I literally told my wife yesterday, "Okay! Once wave 4 actually comes out and I get another Defender and two Phantoms, my set will be complete!"

I lied. Thanks FFG.

I am actually really happy that there are only two ships. Granted, it's gonna be pricey to only get one of each, but the OCD in me is pleased to not have to spray protective sealant on 10+ ship dials...

Also, in my opinion, smaller releases/more frequently > larger releases/less frequently. As a pretty casual gamer, the $$$$ seem a lot more daunting when I feel like I have to buy a bunch of ships at once (when they announce them) instead of gradually, regardless if I will be spending the same amount.

The more high hull ships that come out, the higher Rexlar's stock goes. Especially with a Fleet Officer around.

The Agility penalty won't work if a Dcimator has Expose--but as someone pointed out upthread, the problem is that 4 points is steep for an upgrade that's still worse on average than the focus action.

Cannot reduce agility to less than zero. So the negative does nothing.

If you have only a single action, focus will result in more damage than expose.

Yes, expose is that bad. There are only a few scenarios where expose increases damage output.

That's a bit of an understatement, mate. "Can't Attack" is more than a mere "Problem".

Conclusion: 12/4 hull/shields is nice, but it actually has less durability than the YT-2400, named YT-1300, or Firepsray due to its 0 agility. (estimated results).

That 1 die is expected to block 3 hits over the Falcon's relatively short lifetime, ehh?

Also, why is the Firespray's dial a 1> coefficient?

It is, as of Wave 3, tied with the X-Wing for the most typical dial.

In fact, it is EXACTLY an X-Wing's dial, but with an extra Koiogran!

Re: no range 1 attack. Yup, I agree. It's a quick and dirty estimation, it needs to be revised down. Editing in a moment.

Re: dial: the TIE Fighter is used as a baseline for everything, so 1.0 is the TIE dial, which is quite good. X-wing is valued at 0.955. Dial coefficients are calculated as follows: (suggestions always welcome)

You missed the 2nd half: :)

HA! I never even thought about that. You can't roll negative dice, so I say "LET IT RIDE!". Awesome 5 dice range 1 attacks and 4 dice range 2-3 attacks!

Is that a Colonel Jendon crew card?

Focus would still be better in damage consistency than Expose. Expose is just too expensive because it costs you your action.

Though you might mitigate it with the fleet officer but there are better and cheaper ways to increase damage output.

Is that a Colonel Jendon crew card?

Possibly, nice catch, though the top line would be to short for colonel, maybe they've created a first name for him?

They could easily abbreviate it. The Decimator is pegged as a ship for Imperial officers, so it would make sense if it was him.

Behold the Critamator:

Rear Admiral such and such + Sabotuer + Merc. Co-pilot X 2 + PTL.

Possible 2 crits at range 3, 1 at range 2, and possible 2 at range 1. I believe its 55 points, I think he costs 46 stock.

My 2 cents, Lando should not have been rebel only, I may alter it's deal

I think FFG have managed to make something to replace the Shuttle as my go to support ship.

Crazy stuff here folks. Crazy stuff.

If only there was a way for imperials to pass focus tokens......

Silly double post

I will say, 2 Decimators will look more intimidating than 2 Falcons. Can't wait to see the other pilots, to see how dual Decimators work.
