Farlander with Katarn

By TheWanderingMiller, in X-Wing

I was toying with the idea of using Keyan Farlander + B-Wing/E2 + Kyle Katarn crew member. I believe the stress I remove using Keyan's ability activates Katarn's ability. Correct?

It definitely works, but a focus token on a 1 agility ship that already attacked isn't all that great. It's cool, but probably not worth its points.

Sounds good so Far(lander). Excuse the pun...

It would give him a defensive focus. Nice combo.

The rules work that way, but it's not a very effective strategy since the focus token would only be useful on defense. And defensive focus on a 1-agility ship isn't usually going to help very much, especially compared to powerful defensive upgrades like Chewbacca or C-3PO. If you're going to add a crew upgrade you should probably look elsewhere.

True. 4 points for a free focus does become expensive on a 1 AGL ship.

I really don't think the /E2 is gonna be all that popular. While it's cool and will lead to a lot of fun builds, it starts putting low PS generics into the named pilot powerhouse price range, without the PS to back it up. On the already expensive named B-Wings, it's just out of control.

Great! See this was only half of my master plan. I was considering a 2nd ship with the Jan Ors crew member. So check this out:

Remove 1 stress -> change eyeballs to hits -> free focus token -> focus becomes evade token.

Now how cost effective this is I can't say but you gotta admit it'd be fun to pull off in a game.

I look forward to running the Buzzsaw B-Wings, myself. Or the Serrated Daggers, for the PS bid.

Dagger + FCS + Gunner = 32 points. It also means that every time Gunner is triggered, it has a free Target Lock it can spend to boost the attack.

Yes, FCS + Gunner + E2 costs 1 point more than the HLC or the Hypermobile kit, but it's well worth it.

For a cheaper way to B a bastard, consider an Ion Cannon with a Tactician on board, for 6.total

"Oh, I'm sorry, did I break your concentration?"

Hell, Intelligence Agent means that low PS B-Wings can Advanced-Sensor Barrel-Roll with impunity, as they know where at least one foe shall be.

It wouldn't be cost-effective at all. You're paying a ton of points (including committing to taking a second ship with a crew upgrade) to give a b-wing an evade token every turn, when you could just buy Chewbacca/C-3P0/shield upgrade instead if you want more HP. And of course when either of the two ships in the combo dies the other is pretty much wasted points.

IMO it's really not. You're spending 6 points for gunner when you could just spend 7 points for a HLC that gives you better firepower. And, more importantly, you're spending so many points on the b-wings that you're committed to a 3-ship list (and no, a z-95 isn't a full ship), and we all know how well those tend to work.

Fairly well in the right hands when you've got decent PS and very consistent damage?

HLC is admittedly more consistent against low Agility ships and at Range 3, while FCS + Gunner is more consistent against high-Agility ships and Range 1.

Why not both?

Why not both?

Because it's an insane amount of points to spend, and the HLC already hits consistently enough that gunner isn't doing very much.

I meant one of each, party-pooper. :P

Blue B-wing, FCS, Weapons Engineer, HLC 35pts.

Gets rid of the drawback of FCS being that destroying a target leaves you without TL. Now you can chain kills to your hearts content.

And leaves you for room for two A-Wings with Refits.

Re: serrated dagger: I do like that build but at PS 4 I worry that its targets will be limited. It'll rock when it rocks but it'll get arc-dodged by higher PS mobile ships. I'm just not comfortable with spending 1/3rd of the points on PS 4.

My concern is the same with the TacIon build. 28 point blue or 30 point dagger? Awesome when it happens but I just don't like the cost/PS angle.

The intelligence agent I don't really like on a low PS ship. It works just as well on the B itself as it does on either a HWK and a YT, only you're doubling the cost of the upgrade as a tax for NOT taking one of those 2 ships. Personally, I think I'd go for a dagger over a blue+agent.

Sure, it's a one-point tax, but it's a much bigger tax if you have to buy a HWK or ORS (named Falcons have much better options for crew) that you otherwise wouldn't want in your list. If you want the intelligence agent effect and have a b-wing already the simplest way to get it is to just pay the tax and use the b-wing.

Yeah I agree, I just think I'd rather scrounge a point for advanced sensors. It has a similar effect but is much more versatile. Obviously, the two combined gets the best out of each upgrade, but then you're looking at a 27 point B that isn't a dagger.

Maybe I'll be turned around on it, and I will try out the /E2 but I just don't know if I like the extra cost. I'm not a fan of R2-D6 for the same reason, but that's for a different thread.
