So I have an odd question.

So initially when I ran my beginner adventure it did not end well cuz well I didn't realize how hard it was gunna be for the players I had. We bought then played it so no prep time.

But towards the end they just failed badly so I had them captured by teemos goons. Well my group is a bit scattered so it's been hard getting another game going so I was wondering on an idea that I had so feedback is always nice.

One of the players is my fiancee and she isn't as super into this but is always more than willing to learn so I was thinking as a way for her to practice and learn mechanics along with me to learn gm mechanics. I would hold little gladitorial combats like her and am npcs fighting monsters in a pit for the hutts enjoyment. So it's just like little things.

Does that sound like a solid plan or am I just blowing smoke

No, it's not silly at all, simple staged combats are a great way to learn the basic mechanics.

Well thank ya for the postivness. That being said. The only monsters I have stats on are nexu and rancor and that seems well just insane for someone to fight alone. Except for luke. But any ideas on fights?

You don't have a Core Rule Book? There are a ton of adversaries in that. I don't have the beginner game but there are minions in it you could use.

I was trying to go more like beasts route. But ya it seems like I'll need to use some minions

Yeah gammorean goons and security droids should be the route. Start with the droids for range and gammoreans with cudgels for melee. You should have access to rules on stun and a few of the other melee weapons for melee. Just use the characters out of the box use different combinations. That should get you adjusted to the rules. Unless your fiancée is really about melee let her play with the ranged characters. Most SW games are usually ranged battles with minions or critters you don't want yo engage in melee with. This will help you both learn cover and descriptive narrative. Like in Jabba's pit there were rocks and stuff for Luke to use as cover and to hide with. That just my thoughts on it though I like your idea and have participated and done similar things myself to wrap my head around rules.

If combat's something she likes the idea of but just got knocked around by, the Thunderdome sounds like a good idea. But she may be more into the character choices, or working out the motivations of NPCs, or manipulating people into doing what she wants, or sneaking around praying she doesn't get caught, or opportunities to prove she's smarter than her captors.

If you're just using the beginner game finding out what she wants from a game is difficult, because the best way of figuring that out (short of just asking the player :P (and that can give away surprise as to what's about to happen in the next adventure)) is looking at the character someone has built. If they put points into sneaky stuff, they want more of that. If they put points into tech stuff, they want more of that.

As they're using pre-gens, did the players each get the character they wanted? If so did they chose based on what that character's role was or just how they looked? If the answer is "yes" to both, their chosen character is a good indication of what aspects of the game will be most fun to them. On the other hand if any of them chose 41-VEX on purpose, maybe combat isn't what'll endear them to the game. :D

Well she has built a character the problem is story wise untill she is broke out of the slave pits. So I figured this would be good downtime activities. While chatting with other prisoners which will be a big thing cuz the day that we have the rescue they will be all pitted against each other to the death. So it's kind of imperative the rescuers get to them in time if they want to save both her and the npcs pilot

Keep in mind in EOTE it can be very easy to create an enemy.

You can say something like, "I want a beast that is roughly a threat to one individual player".

So give it stats of 2 across the board, but maybe raise its Brawn to 3. Give it a weapon like claws or teeth, make them do X points of damage plus Brawn, like 2 or 3.

Give it a wound threshold of something like 10, and a soak of maybe 2 or 3.

Boom, you've got an enemy fit for a single player. It could be a beast or a humanoid, whatever you need. Adjust those stats to taste.
