Phantom list

By Seanamal, in X-Wing

So I've been trying to balance the weaknesses of the Phantom with an appropriate group of squadron mates. This is what I've come up with:

Echo with VI,ACD,FCS, Weapons engineer 40 pts

Academy Tie x 5 60 pts

This is the theory: The Phantom's chief weaknesses is ships that ignore facing limitations currently those ships would be y wings and hawks equipped with turrets and the falcon. One of the most effective responses to both these threats is the tie swarm. Providing multiple targets and focusing fire while also crowding in and denying movement choices. Creating this type of furball is an optimum enviorment for Echo to use it's impressive ability to maneuver. By being able to place two target locks simultaniously the phantom confuses his foe as to what his next target will be and where he will go.

I like your list but as i am not a huge fan of the miniswarm in every single imp list, i won't go with it. I know renowned players have promoted it, and it's sure strong, but i don't dig it.

So i will play a 3 Phantom list i dubbed "Dude, where's my ship?"

I don't care if there are turrets, i will do my best and target them first if possible. Otherwise i will rely on my huge firepower, ability to dodge arcs and on a lot of cloaked green dice.

It will be:

- Whisper, Advanced cloak, Veteran insincts, Fire control system, Intelligence agent.

- 2x Sigma, Stygium cloak, Fire control system, intelligence agent.

If i didn't forget anything this should be 100 pts. I might drop the intelligence agent on Whisper because on this list initiative is really important, at least for Whisper himself.

Other than that, the list relies on action economy with the FCS, Whisper and the Stygiums.

The IAs should help in the decicion to decloak or not, while also knowing whether to boost or barrel roll while decloaking. This should be key to outmaneuver enemies, which is the other strength of this list.

While not as versatile as your list i will play it just because it has 3 lone wolves and 3 times the dreaded 4 attack dice. The durability is a joke, but at least you should be able to eliminate priority targets pretty fast. The rest is skill and luck.
