Few things needs clearing in my head

By SDCC, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Guys,

Couple of things I just need to have clear in my head before a game tonight.

Range and what effects it has.

I'm defending, oppo attacking - If I'm at range 3, I get an extra green dice? His red dice remain standard.

I'm attacking, oppo defending - I'm if at range 1, I get an extra red dice? His green dice remain standard.

TL;dr If you're attacking close you gain a red. If you're defending far you gain a green?

Night Beast - "After executing a green manoeuvre, you may perform a free focus action." - So I can do a green move, focus, and then still barrel roll or evade?

Swarm Tactics - So if an Academy Pilot (1) was within range 1 of Howlrunner (8), the AP would move first, then when it came to attacking he's use ST and shoot at PS 8? Then back to PS 1 for moving again?

Am I reading it right?

Cheers!

You are correct inevery way with 1 small note, you dont get the free focus action from night beast if you started the turn with a stress token, takes a bit to explain and i dont fully understand why buts the way it is

I'm guessing that since you can't do an action whilst stressed a stress token prevents the free focus.

That has me wondering, does the stress token prevent both your free focus and your action? Or just the free focus?

Prevents free focus. Not your action.

A stress token that is assigned to the active ship during the activation phase DOES prevent actions. That includes your 'standard' action and/or a free action.

Core Rulebook...

Doesn't prevent the action if he does a green though. Which is what was asked....

It is a muddled area I feel.

A stress token is removed at the end of the movement phase when a green manoeuvre is performed. So we're not yet at the point where actions are used?

If I performed a white move I'd not get the free focus (as I'm stressed), and I wouldn't get an action (again as I'm stressed).

So if I perform a green move, does the stress token, which is removed at the end of the movement phase, take away both my free focus and my action or just one?

It should also be noted that the additional dice for range applies ONLY to a ship's Primary weapons, not any secondary weapon upgrades like cannons, turrets, torpedoes or missiles.

So to clarify, you recieve the free focus action before you remove the stress for performing the green move, hence why you cant perform the free focus action as you xtill have the stress counter.

Ah!

So, start stressed - green move - not stressed but can't free focus - action as normal, fire if possible.

In order

Start stressed

Reveal green

Move ship

Assign free focus - CAN'T, STRESSED

Remove stress

Perform normal action.

Edit: the reason is the timing in the rulebook, and on the cards. You try and assign focus srraight after performing the move, at which point you are still stressed. Later during the movement phase, you will remove the stress, but at this point, the opportunity for free focus has come and gone.

To the OP, the bonus attack and defense die do not apply to secondary weapons (missiles, cannons), only the primary weapons of a ship.

GodofCheese above has the reason why Night beast can't take a free focus when stressed.
