Rebel Aces in July?

By dakralter, in X-Wing

I don't know if anyone else saw this, but I have an alert for FFG and this article came up from a gaming store in Wisconsin.

http://www.gnomegames.com/new-from-fantasy-flight-star-wars-x-wing-rebel-aces-expansion/

It states that it will be on shelves in July... not sure if that's feasible but I thought I would pass along.

I very much doubt that date. I think it would more be like September. FFG also indicate that it would be 3rd quarter 2014.

Just based on wave 4, it appears that it takes close to 7-8 weeks from the time the items are put on the boat to the local stores.

Technically July is still Q3 so its possible but any news on dates should always be taken with a grain of salt, especially those by 3rd party retailers

As much as I love the Gnomes(they are an awesome store, and have run the gameroom at the con I helped found for several years now) and as much as the owner is in the know on a lot of things, X-Wing has not been huge at their store. I wouldn't trust this bit of news overmuch.

Does he say which "July", cause I'm totally wiling to believe it will be on shelves in a non-specific "July" (for values of July starting in 2015).

I'm really feeling a GenCon early release, with more showing up at stores a week to three later.

If they mean coming in July as in going on the boat in July, then I believe them.

I'm also half expecting there to be an early release at GenCon then a month later the official release.

I wrote this in another thread, but relevant here as well:

Looking more closely at the time between the FFG official website announcements first revealing a product and the official announcement of it being available in stores, I see the following.

Wave 1 took 150 days

Wave 2 took 167 days

Wave 3 took 132 days

This averages to ~150 days, and would lead me to say Wave 4 will hit the website as "launched" around July 7th.

For Imperial Aces, the time between website announcement and website release was 182 days. This would suggest that Rebel Aces should be on sale around Sept 16th. I suspect that their were strangely long delays in Imperial Aces, so perhaps this would be more like August 16th, or a Gen Con release!

The huge ships took longer (253 days and 275 days, respectively). Assuming FFG announces a new pair of Imperial Epic play style huge ships at Gen Con, they could be available by May 5, 2015.

Lastly, if a Wave 5 is also announced at Gen Con, it could get released on Jan 11, 2015.

This is using the average of 150 days...let's assume that they can get closer to the 132 days of Wave 3 (perhaps their process has improved), we could see a Wave 5 released this Christmas.

My FLGS says that ffg told them they will be getting rebel aces July 22

I really hope the releases slow. Rebel Aces can be fall or later, as much as I want the A-Wing upgrades.

if they say Q3 they mean at best it's available September 30

Don't forget all those SKUs (6 wasn't it?) in between wave 4 and rebel aces.

I don't think Aces will be the next release.

I think they're sitting on some suprise releases connected to the launch of the Rebels series.

I'd probbably bet that we'll get the Imperial huge ship as part of this (that cool one with the TIEs plugged into it).

Yup...I think that is right too.

I remember that rebel aces was spoiled and not meant to be public yet, or am i mistaking? They may have pulled it forward

I don't think that's even possible. They can only manufacture and ship things at a certain speed. And when has a long lead time on public knowledge of a product ever been a problem for FFG?

Just because they've skipped six SKUs doesn't mean that the SKUs will be released in that order. The Rebel Transport is SWX11 and was released seven months after Wave 3, which are SWXs 12 through 15. Imperial Aces came out right before the Rebel Transport and it's SWX21.

The six skipped SKUs suggest that there are six other products that have been planned before Rebel Aces was planned. The number of SKUs seems to suggest that it's a four-ship Wave 5 and two Imperial huge ships.

I think we get a soft launch of Rebel Aces at GenCon with a full release a couple weeks later, then Imperial huge ships in November and December, then Wave 5 in March 2015. FFG seems to want to release new product every quarter, and the issues it's had with keeping to that schedule appear to be resolved.

I think that reasoning seems sound, Danthrax.

Good idea to look at the SKUs.

I didn't realize that some were missing.

What about the Star Tiles, however? Did they take a SKU to the grave with them?

Kinda looks that way.

Six unreleased and unannounced SKUs (SWX23 through SWX28).

Planned before Rebel Aces (SWX29), presumably.

I don't know why the Rebel Transport (SWX11) is so far away from the Tantive IV (SWX22) in SKU number.

Here they are in order, for the sake of argument (removed the "SWX" for brevity).

01 Base Game

02 X-Wing

03 TIE Fighter

04 Y-Wing

05 TIE Advanced

06 Millenium Falcon

07 Slave I

08 A-Wing

09 TIE Interceptor

10 Dice Pack

11 Rebel Transport

12 HWK-290

13 Lambda-class Shuttle

14 B-Wing

15 TIE Bomber

16 Z-95

17 TIE Defender

18 E-Wing

19 TIE Phantom

20 Starfield Game Tile Kit

21 Imperial Aces

22 Tantive IV

23 unknown

24 unknown

25 unknown

26 unknown

27 unknown

28 unknown

29 Rebel Aces

I agree with the sentiment and strongly suspect that we'll learn about all six remaining items at Gen Con, and they'll be Wave 5 and two huge Imperial Ships.

My official guess is the following:

23 Imperial "smaller" huge ship (boxed like the Rebel Transport) Gozanti Cruiser packaged with a TIE? $59.95

24 Wave 5 Rebel ship 1 Outrider , large base, $29.95

25 Wave 5 Imp ship 1 G1-A starfighter (Mist Hunter, Zuckuss & 4-LOM), small base, $14.95

26 Wave 5 Rebel ship 2 unknown, but with crew, small base, $14.95

27 Wave 5 Imp ship 2 IG-2000 (IG-88's ship), small base, $14.95

28 Imperial "larger" huge ship (boxed like Tantive IV) unknown class $89.95

Then I think this game is wrapped up for now.

Balance would have been restored. 2 Large base ships each. 2 Small base multi-crew ships each. 2 Huge ships each.

And, more importantly, basically nothing good left to release for the Rebels!

Personally I think a Starviper(Virago) will be more likely to be released than IG-2000 especially if the Outrider makes it, (A Shadows of the Empire themed event is too easy to pass up)
