Boba's Bombers

By Nickos13, in X-Wing

Hey folks,

i would like your advice on that Imperial Squad:

Boba Fett

- Outmaneuver

- Navigator

- Proton Bomb

Gamma Squadron Pilot (2x)

- Assault Missiles

- Seismic Charges

100 Points a:

- 3 Ships

- 18 Hull

- 4 Shields

- 7 Attack dice/ 10 on Range 1

- 6 Defense dice

- Pilotskills 8,4,4

- 2x Missiles + 3x Bombs (Splash Damage ahoi!)

Tactic :

1) Hit hard with an Rocket Alpha Strike

2) Assault Missiles & Bombs to destroy enemy formations/clusters a.s.o

3) Make best use of the Fettigators insane movement abilites in combo with Outmaneuver

4) Pray that the Proton Bomb will hit some Rebelscum

Ahh, a return to Fettigator, ehh?

Honestly, I think one of the best ways to take advantage of Fett's mobility is the rarely-used Proximity Mine. It is fairly trivial for him to plant the bomb where it will be unavoidable for your opponent's ship, and doing so will invariably give him a Range-1 rear-arc shot as well.

Picking one up will allow you to take up a Flechette Torpedo on Fett (with the Slave-1 Title), which is great for setting up your Outmaneuvering and Bombing.

That being said, Proton Bombs are the best discardable-damage in the game by far, so you don't have to take that previous paragraph if you don't want to.

Also, Outmaneuver on Fett. WHY ISN'T THIS A THING YET???

I will also point out that if you're rocking 2x Assault Missiles and 2x Seismic Charges, your splash damage is good enough that you probably don't NEED the Proton Bombs.

I play with and like Boba a lot. He is the best bomb carrier in the game, especially when he's decked out with movement shenanigans. Play around, but I feel that giving him engine upgrade can really help him out with the outmaneuver skill.

Side note: If you give him push the limit he also becomes one of the best ordnance carriers in the game. I like to give him an assault missile or an APT, because he will get it off and cause destruction.

In the list I worry about the gammas' assault missiles. The will easily whiff if they don't have a focus, or something to boost their rolls. Setting up a target lock one round and then a focus the next might be hard, depending on your enemy's pilot skills. Concussion missiles aren't as splashy, but would make them more reliable.

Does Outmaneuver count for the rear arc?

Does Outmaneuver count for the rear arc?

I don't see anything that mentions being in your front arc only. There were some rulings awhile ago about it and the YT though.

Outmaneuver (3)
Unreleased
When attacking a ship inside your firing arc, if you are not inside that ship's firing arc reduce its agility value by 1 (to a minimum of 0)

In the FAQ

Q: If a ship has a turret primary weapon (or is equipped with a turret secondary weapon), is the ship considered to have a 360-degree firing arc?

A: No. Turret Primary and secondary weapons allow a ship to ignore it's printed firing arcs. A ships firing arcs are always the printed, shaded arcs on it's ship token.

This makes it seem you have to have the target in your front primary firing arc for Outmaneuver to trigger.

But the Firespray has a rear printed firing arc so I would rule that OM would trigger from either arc.

I thought the ruling on the Firespray's arc was the back arc counted as primary as well?

That rear firing arc is called it's "Auxiliary Firing Arc". Now grant it the Outmaneuver does not specify weather it's Primary or Auxiliary firing arcs but secondary weapons don't declare the arcs either the FAQ does.

I honestly don't remember but do know you can't fire a secondary weapon out of the back arc. Outmanuver would be great for the Firespray if it does work, terrible if it doesn't. It would make the YT's **** terrifying.

That is why I don't think it will count outside the primary arc.

It acts like a primary arc that just can't fire secondary weapons. It's not a turret nor does it follow the secondary weapon rules. Backstabber doesn't get his extra die in it iirc, so it seems like the reverse should apply for outmaneuver unless FAQ say otherwise. IE it counts as an arc for that purpose.

We will get an FAQ that covers this I'm sure. I tend to air on the side of caution when testing this builds until we are in the know. I really can see this ruling going either way.

Secondary weapons can only be used from the main firing arc. The text in the FAQ has been updated to pluralize all generic mention of firing arc (now firing arcs) to clear up confusion regarding abilities such as Backstabber which reference positioning in relation to a firing arc as a condition of the ability. So yes, the precedent has been set for OM to apply to both arcs on the Firespray.

Right : Firesprays and Falcons: How do their Arcs work?

The Falcon has a single firing arc and a primary weapon that can ignore it.

The Firespray has two firing arcs, and the auxillary is only usable by the primary weapon.

Backstabber behind Han Solo gets a bonus die.
Backstabber behind Boba Fett does not.

Had they intended Outmaneuver to exclude the Auxillary firing arc, it would have literally been a 1-word addition.
("When attacking a ship in your [primary] firing arc.....").

I will have to try this list. I always want to run fettigator but always end up talking my self out of it. I am also a huge fan of outmaneuver.
