After a casual match of standard ships I decided to bust out the CR-90 I've had ever since it was released and finally get it to the table. I picked scenario 1, the Corvette versus TIE Fighters, to try. Fortunate that the scenario book came with rules to cover games that were not part of the campaign!
Fore // Jaina's Light / Quad Laser Cannons / Gunnery Team / Backup Shield Generator
Aft // WED-15 Repair Droid / Quad Laser Cannons / Engineering Team / Slicer Tools
Asteroids were fairly scattered and din't have much of an impact on the game. The CR-90 had a cozy start, shooting at a TIE and not causing much damage. Lost the shields around round 3 and struggled to keep them up while the TIEs were busy shooting it up.
I had an opportunity to do lots of damage against the TIEs as they all K-Turned to keep me in arc, but I didn't have the energy and with only one action it was difficult to decide what to do!
The most damage I did was swinging the CR-90 to smash three of my opponent's TIEs with the rear end of the ship and doing only one point of damage. Sadly, the shots I had on the remaining two TIEs weren't enough and the fore section took the last point of damage it was needed to be disabled and finish the scenario.
But It was great to finally get the ship to the table and see how it worked. It's important to have some close-in defenses and the CR-90 has a very uncomfortable blind spot in the front. I can see why it's a support ship as well... if I had escorts, more of the upgrade cards would have been appealing and one of my support actions would have been useful.
I think though next time I'll try to spread my energy on my quad lasers to let them attack and just pic one upgrade card to use an action with. Reinforce was very valueble against the TIE attacks but there are other actions that are equally as good depending on the situaiton.
Can't wait to have it back on the table again!
