C3P0 Wildcard

By Morgan Reid, in X-Wing

When I saw the new C3P0 card I was pretty impressed and keen to give him a run in a Falcon to see how good he is vs the tried and tested Chewie upgrade.

Like many I knew that if I guessed zero I would be guaranteed 2 evades per turn when using the Title...

Now I know I was unlucky but after 2 games and 9 guesses with C3P0's ability I didn't get a single bonus evade due to the golden robot's ability!

Every time I had 1 evade dice I guessed zero (and then rolled an evade) and a couple of times when at range 3 behind an asteroid I guessed 1 and rolled zero!

For future games I will simply guess zero regardless of how many evade dice I have unless the Falcons life depends on a lucky guess. Even then though C3P0 might still not make his points back.

Moral of the story for me is that while I realise C3P0's potential (and I will continue to use him as I think he is great) his ability is simply that - Potential . Chewie is guaranteed 2 health for 4 points where C3P0 is a good failsafe but he is also potentially 3 wasted points.

C3PO works if you always pick zero. That way if you get an evade, you get an evade, and if you don't roll an evade, you get an evade. It's a guaranteed 1 evade, regardless of what you roll.

It's nice to have in your back pocket the ability to guess more if you need to keep Han alive and it's down to the wire...

I agree - it's a good failsafe if you don't roll an evade.

I was just highlighting that in some games you will not get a guess correct (you guess zero and roll an evade - ergo no need for C3P0) and its 3 wasted points whereas Chewie is guaranteed 2 health!

It also helps that 0 is the most likely rolled.

Anyone else want to put C3-P0 on a B-Wing?

Only if I hate the poor bastard who's stuck flying with him in the backseat. Although compared to THE most annoying character he does have one upside, an off switch.

Off switch on Jar Jar is his heart... His stupid Gungan heart. I rather like C3PO's quips and interpretation on the universe :) . As a math man myself, I can appreciate an entity always ready with the odds...

I'd think it'd be similar to having Sheldon from Big Bang as a backseat driver. Now to make sure the techs install a co-pilot ejection system.

True true, albeit a slight distracting he's always full of fun facts!

Han with C-3PO is questionable since it's hard to reach the point where you get three extra evade results that you wouldn't have otherwise had and beat (crew) Chewbacca's guaranteed two HP (and crit canceling). Assuming you always guess zero on a one-green roll for the maximum 5/8 chance of getting the bonus evade it will take you 4.8 turns on average to get 3 extra evades. Is the most important ship in your list and obvious priority target going to survive that many turns of focused fire?

Where C-3PO is awesome is on (pilot) Chewbacca, since you can't take his crew version.

Now that is a great post Peregrine.

Thank you for the math breakdown to give C3P0 some perspective and indication on where he is best suited.

See the problem is you're rolling well. Stop doing that and C3-P0 is well worth it :D
