Imperial Aces or Interceptor?

By bageldrone, in X-Wing

Hi guys

I currently own 1 interceptor and 1 Imperial aces but i'd like to get some more, which do you think i should get next, A Interceptor expansion that i can get right now or wait for Imperial Aces to get back in stock for another set of them

I would honestly say, it depends on what you wnat/need. Or.. can you paint Blood stripes on the standard squint..

yself, I painted 2 Squints before Aces came out, and after buying 3 Aces, I have 5 Blood Stripped 181st ships. I can throw in one of my painted ones with weathered stripes for that Older Ace, Like Fel or Turr, and have 3 crisp new ones for the rookies..

but it all really depends on what you need.. and if you need more of the stuff that comes with the Aces or the regular squint..

I would say Imperial Aces, since you already got the pilots that you really need from the Interceptor expansion (Fel and Turr). You get more meaningful upgrade options from Imperial Aces, Opportunist, Interceptor Title, Hull, shield upgrades, Push the Limit.

You also get 2 more copies of the Royal Guard, letting you field 4 in a 100 point game.

The Tie Interceptor's upgrade cards are underwhelming, Daredevil will not see any play (unless you want to try it out for extreme fun, I tried it once, only used it once in the whole game, that is because the Interceptor is already really good in positioning, leaving Daredevil's upgrade somewhat moot).

Elusiveness not really that useful since you'll get stress, Interceptors hate stress, they like to shoot and kill.

Putting Opportunist (Imperial Aces expansion) on the Interceptor might be really worth it, the better positioning of the Interceptor makes the stress worth it (extra red dice, who doesn't like that?)

Yea I think I'll wait for Aces as i dont need the cards from the Interceptor

Really the only reason to go with the Interceptor expansion is if you want an extra of the really cheap Pilots, which for the Interceptor arguably isn't a very good deal.

I wish I had the choice. Imperial Aces box sets are like hens teeth here in the UK unless you want to go to online auction sites and pay twice the rrp. Had mine on pre/back order since December :-(

Yea Im in the UK there are some on amazon and ebay for inflated prices, anyone know if FFG are doing a reprint any time soon?

Another UK player here (do we all use the same avatar!?)... Just got 2x Imperial Aces and the Rebel Transport through in the post from Miniature Market in the US. Even when I factored in postage and customs charges, it's still cheaper than buying in the UK! UK prices and availability are ridiculous.

Also, I would go with the suggestions above to get Aces if possible over a standard Interceptor.

Dronevil, what did shipping and taxes end up being? Very tempted to use them in the past but get them delivered to my US office to avoid shipping, unfortunately I'm not due over there until Q4 this year.

Miniature Market is looking to be the best option for us UK people at the moment. I'm just looking to see if anyone local wants to combine orders to reduce the postage first though.

Wait for the Aces, you won't regret it.

Hull Upgrade, among the other goodies, are worth waiting for.

Group buy PMs sent :-)

I'd say more aces too, but really can you have too many interceptors?

Aces... All you need to run RGP + PtL. You already have Soontir and Phennir so Aces all ze way!

I would say a regular interceptor. Getting a second Alpha Squadron Pilot opens up options for a Hybrid Swarm. That said, Aces has some good cards and more royal guards are always good. Option 3 is to wait and get a Phantom.

I didn't read everyone's post, so this may have been mentioned.

I say the aces.

The royal guard pilot is awesome. 22 points for a pilot score of 6 is amazing

I'm in Canada and ordering from them was cheaper for me too. It took a bit of time for me to get my delivery, but that's because I was too cheap to pay for the express shipping :P

Aces - I ran a list at Imdaar that had me fielding 2 RGP's, Carnor Jax and Howlrunner. Problem with that is that Jax is printed on the backside of one of the RGP's, so I had to borrow one from a friend.

Definitely the Aces pack. After wave 4 hits and I buy 2 of each ship, I'm probably going to drop some cash on another 2 Aces packs - the upgrades alone (2x PTL, 2x Targeting Computer, 2x Opportunist, 2x Hull Upgrade and 2x Shield Upgrade) make it worth the price alone.

A single of the original Interceptor pack should be enough, unless you want to run 5 interceptors and need the Alphas/Avengers.

I still think 5 Alphas with Targeting Computers would be an interesting list to fly, by the way :D

Alphas are making a strong showing in regionals, so there are some lists where you might want two. Of course, a pair of aces packs is also good, so I'd say both! :)

I bought 3 Interceptors initially, well before Imperial Aces was announced. I have been debating buying another set of Imperial Aces for the paint jobs, but I don't think I need 7 Interceptors. On the plus side, I have lots of nice tokens and extra cards. :)

Maybe at some point I will get my painting skills up and brave repainting one of the regular ones.

Considering most players consider Push the Limit standard issue with Interceptors, and that adds stress every time you use it, I have doubts about this proclamation...

Speaking of PtL, that's a really good reason to go with aces again instead of the normal interceptor. Unless you need some more alpha pilots for some reason there isn't much reason to get it now.

I have 9 interceptors, 5 original and 2 packs of aces... I'm probably going to buy 2 more packs of aces because I'm too lazy to learn how to paint my own royal guard interceptors.

I apparently am also prone to hording and completionism

I ordered 2x Imperial Aces and 1x Rebel Transport. The costs were $81.35 + $30.10 shipping + £12.86 customs (actually £4.86 customs and £8 "admin" fee).

So, final cost to me was £79.27. So, basically £20 each for the Aces and £40 for the transport. Actually, looking at it with the customs added in for the first time, it isn't that much cheaper than here in the UK... but the transport was big and heavy so wasn't particularly shipping-friendly and Imperial Aces are basically not available here anyway! I understand that a value of £105+ attracts an additional customs charge, but not sure how much this would be. If the parcel gets over a certain size as well, then shipping goes up massively, so huge orders might not be that great. Have a play around with their checkout and see what you can cram in for what postage.

Considering most players consider Push the Limit standard issue with Interceptors, and that adds stress every time you use it, I have doubts about this proclamation...

Stress is bad because of action loss and predictability. PTL doesn't have the action problem (it increases action economy) and the Interceptor has a wide suite of greens to shed the stress.
