Swarm killer or not?

By Greedyfly, in X-Wing

I have been running this list lately with some great success

Krasis with HLC recon specialist

OGP with HLC ,FCS

2 x AP

I have found it to be most effective against rebels and equally good against imperials except I haven't played against a tie swarm list. In my local tournament scene there is only one who realy runs the tie swam and is very proficient with it (even brings printouts on how to counter move against set up options ) . The a very common build here in perth W.A is some type of xxbb variation and my list seams to work well against that type of build.

I know you don't try and joust against the swarm but the way I have run this list is keep the shuttle in the corner with the ties flying in front of it and running the shuttle into them to stay in the corner until my opponent has come across to me and had to turn away and then the chase is on. I think this would be the death of the shuttle if I tried to pull this move?

Any thoughts?

Well, I think it has a good Alpha Strike. If you can kill two ties or Howlrunner in the opening engagement you're probably in good shape. That said, that Shuttle is not going to manage a second run. It'll be focused down, and fast. But if it's made a big enough dent that could be enough, as the ties will have a hard time with Krassis.

That said, I'd rather run the OGP as a Buzzsaw than with a HLC. Cut the HLC, add a Gunner. If you could scrape together two more points you could even fit an engine upgrade... But short of cutting Krassis down to a regular Bounty Hunter(a viable option as his single reroll and PS aren't too huge, I don't see a good way to go about it. I'd just never run a shuttle without engine upgrade.

Krassis with an Assault Missile could be a swarm killer. HLC is good, but it really shines at shredding low Agi ships.

Omicron Group Pilots tend to fall hard against swarms, due to having low mobility and lower agility.

Engine Upgrades fix the low mobility issue. You can actually shake the ants off of you with that, rather than letting them bite you to death.

There IS a Shuttle Build that the Swarm fears more than the HLC: Gunner + FCS (+ Engine Upgrade).

At 32 points, the "Buzzsaw" shuttle (also known as the Mystical Albino Void-Bison) is designed to eat ships with high agility.

Here's the combo at work.

  1. Attacker rolls Attack Dice
  2. Defender rolls Defense Dice, and spends tokens to not die
  3. Attacker gains a Target Lock on the defender.
  4. If Step 1 results in 0 damage, Attacker rolls Attack Dice
  5. Attacker spends Target Lock acquired in Step 3
  6. Defender rolls Defense Dice, with no tokens left for not-dying.
  7. Attacker gains a Target Lock on the defender.

Why, its almost like having Han Solo + Gunner, but for half the points and on the opposite team! Fantastic!

With two of these Space-Kodos eating Ties like Kibble every turn, there's not going to be much of a swarm left after long!

However, the Buzzsaw Shuttle does suffer a bit in a metagame with very many YT-1300s, B-Wings, and to a rarer extent, Y-Wings. 1 agility means your first attack is distressingly likely to hit, meaning you don't get to use the overpowered combo. However, you still hit them with your first attack, so this is a first-world problem if ever there was one.

Also, it isn't like the HLC isn't effective against TIEs. 3 HLC shots a turn mean that Howlrunner is very likely to die quickly, at which point you've knocked out half of the swarm's damage potential.

RECAP:

Get Engine Upgrades, or the Shuttles die quickly from being unable to actually face their attackers.

Buzzsaw shuttle is great against the Swarm.

Less great against many Rebel fleets (though still pretty good).

HLC is still pretty good in all circumstances.

Yeah the buzsaw shuttle is great but in our meta it's a bit of a waste as b wings rule the sky. Focusing down howlerunner was what I was thinking would be best. Another alternative I was thinking was to drop the FCS off the shuttle and put a sizemic on Krasis . Could be fun
