New experiences for me: Kath, Carnor, Lorrir

By Revanchist, in X-Wing

So last evening I had my first X-wing game in 3 weeks. I was pretty eager to try some of the Aces as well as barrel-rolling Firesprays, so I ran:

Kath + EH + Gunner

Carnor + PtL

Lt. Lorrir + HU

And completely ROFLstomped my opponent. The dice were hot for me: I rolled about 9 uncancelled crits and only took four damage (3 to Kath's shields, 1 to Lorrir) while taking out 22 hitpoints of Rebels. Some things I learned:

Barrel-rolling Firesprays is huge. HUGE. That 1 bank BR back keeps you in the fight that much longer before the inevitable K-turn. Also the ability to reposition around asteroids is pretty nice.

Carnor is an amazing support ship in his own right. It can be an issue getting him into R1 of ships, but once he is there he disrupts very adequately. I shut down Garven twice in the match: once because he couldn't spend it, the other time because anyone he could give it to was blocked from using it by me. On top of that he is a PtL int.

Lorrir is better than most give him credit for. The closest equivalent in flying style to him I would say would be Backstabber. Just don't feel that you have to use his ability every turn and you should do great. He is also seen as a low priority target, which is a fatal mistake.

How are you barell rolling with the 1 bank template in a firespray?

Like the list. EH on Kath (or any large ship for that matter) is almost a must. What build did you play against?

I think he was saying the green 1-bank maneuver to clear the stress of EH barrel roll, not barrel rolling with the 1 bank template.

Yep, barrel rolling big ships is SCRUMPTRULESCENT.

A perfectly cromulent phrase

I believe that is correct, essentially netting a 0 move because you can barrel roll backwards

Yes

I too just played a game where I used Lorrir, and it was the first time I've actually ever seen (let alone used him) without him getting his ass handed to him the first turn he is in firing range of the opponent.

That funky barrel roll is insane when used properly (or at all!)

The list I ran was Dark Curse with Hull Upgrade

2x Royal Guards with PTL and Targeting Computer

Lorrir with Hull upgrade

I was running against a HSF list, and let me tell you, Dark Curse was made to go against Han - no re-rolls meant I was able to put the hurt on Han in big way. Lorrir was constantly able to put the enemy in his fire arc using the barrel roll. Although I would love to be able to put PTL on him, he did ok shedding the stress from the funky barrel roll - which I used A LOT during the course of the game.

It was a casual game. My opponent ran:

Roark + ICT

Blue + HLC + FCS

Garven

Green

He is still a little wobbly when it comes to flying the B-wing, so that cost him dearly. I don't think it ever got more than 1 shot off before it was hopelessly outflanked.

This ain't exactly a terrible list either.

I rather wish that some of the points spent on the Blue went to giving the A-Wing an EPT, but you've got some good stuff here.

Yeh, I actually like the rebel list quite a bit. My advice for the list is to wait on investments like HLC until the B-Wing feels comfy. It is really quite potent naked, especially with Advanced Sensors. AS will also make it a little more forgiving for new players.

Back on topic, I really really like the idea of your list, and will give a try soon. I love Jax, and have been meaning to get Lorrir in to a list. Plus Kath is best pilot. So that helps.

Yeah, there's still the "fear of red maneuvers" that early B-wingers have. If he would have pulled a sharp 1 at one point I would have been toasty.
