The fear of opening the website in the morning

By UltimateZing, in X-Wing

For the past three months, I have dreaded opening up the Fantasy Flight homepage. it's usually one of my first visits every morning, and before I click the little bookmark button, I say a little prayer. I'm not typically what most would call a religious or even spiritual person, but the words, "Please don't be new product announcements" do escape with closed eyes and a bowed head. Then, I click, see nothing new, and release a big sigh, knowing that for now, my financial future is looking good enough to continue playing catch up.

Is there anyone else whom FFG has created a "gun shy" feeling about opening the main website with? I mean, from January until mid-May, it seemed like if you visited the website maybe once or twice a week, they were announcing something for one of maybe five releases that were pending at the time (Imperial Aces, Transport, Tantive IV, Wave IV, or Rebel Aces), and now that we're down to just two of those yet to be officially released, that it just feels like the shoe is about to drop on yet another big string of releases? I don't even mean this as fear from someone who overbuys on everything, but just all the products in general.

(note - not bashing the fact we're getting new stuff, or getting good info on it, just that when it rains, it pours)

I'm a little off put by how fast things are coming out, but based on your sig, I'm not even in your category.

I highly doubt we'll hear about any new releases until Gencon. You're probably safe until then :)

cant be scared of change guys...FFG is a business. Business need to make money.

Personally I am excited for new ships.

whoa that sig!! I mean, I love Squints but 26??? wow... and only 6 bombers?? Gonna have to catch up there! ;)

Do know what you mean though, especially if they announce more huge ships. I try to resist but the search for ultimate power continues

I dunno, just try to resist buying 26 of whatever they announce next?

I say a different prayer when I visit the site lately. "Please Be Shipping Today"

Yup. Gen con

When is that?

It would be nice to have a break. Almost monthly new products are coming out. Not that that is a bad thing. It's actualy great, but it like so many others, I have to buy as soon as they're out, which also doesn't give me much time to really play with and learn the previous ships that I bought

I wish I could play this game everyday, but if I'm lucky I get maybe a couple hours one or two nights a week, so out of all the new builds I want to try, I just don't get that time

I guess I would be more afraid of new announcements if I felt compelled to pre-order 12 of everything as well.

I'm thinking, if you maybe pared that down to a more reasonable 4 of everything, you might not have such anxiety. And HONESTLY - who needs 3 frickin' corvettes???

Yeah...

I too hope not to hear much about new products at least until after Wave 4 comes out. I expect to hear something from Gencon but I'm betting it's Huge Imp ships, not a new wave. Wave 5 won't be announced for some time yet, if we go by past waves.

But yeah, someone who owns 12 Advanced and 3 Vette... I can see why you're worried.

GenCon is in mid August, the 14th-17th.

I don't even mean this as fear from someone who overbuys on everything,

haha, are you sure about that??

OP you need help. And I mean that with all due-respect.

it's 27, 12 imperial aces and 3 of the normal interceptor. Oddly enough, I paid less per box of imperial aces ($13.97) than I did for the normal ones ($16.04 after tax)

Change itself is not the fear, it's the lack of a regular release schedule, partially from age of the game, partially due to sporadic releases that aren't normal waves. When they lined up Imperial Aces, Transport, Tantive, and Wave 4 to be released all within the same four months, it's kind of daunting to someone who buys one of everything (let alone more)

WHY. WHY IN THE WORLD DO YOU HAVE 3 CORVETTES, OP.
Do you provide for entire tournaments or what? I understand why you're hesitant to open the page if that's how you shop. Freakin' massive props to you!

I always get excited for new stuff, regardless of whether or not it'll set me back. Usually I have time to come up with a plan on how to get what I need, because they announce it early.

Your use of a hyphen is making my brain freak out.

For larger than 300 point games on the Corvettes. There's a 1200+ game in the planning stages, especially for when huge ships are put out for Imperials. The suspension of the 12 limit per ship may also be in effect for that game.

The new stuff is all very exciting, there is just seems to have also been an overload of it in that short time...and then quiet periods, like now. Prior to aces, there was only a very few things left for Imdaar to show us about Wave 4. The only thing really left to spoil with aces are the two other named pilots, and maybe a couple of the other upgrades, and that is supposed to hold over until mid-August for Gen Con spoilers.

This...sounds glorious.

There's a 1200+ game in the planning stages,

That sounds absolutely absurd.... I mean, unless you have a 4-day weekend coming up with nothing to do.... the setup alone would take more time than even most long games.

I can understand that, although I'm not quite that crazy.

You definitely need more TIE Fighters though. :) If you are planning a 1200+ point game (I am assuming per side, so Epic x4) then I would consider a bare minimum of 24 TIE Fighters. If you're really doing Epic x4, then the single ship limit should really go from 12 to 48. All 6 named TIEs plus 42 Black Squadron Pilots is still "only" 685 points. But I'm assuming you will have friends that can provide some TIEs as well.

Seriously though, nobody is compelling you to buy a large number of ships though, so any sense of fear is completely self-imposed. Either set a monthly / quarterly budget and hold yourself to it, or capitulate and accept that your wallet now belongs to FFG.

At the end of the day, the OP has it way better than anyone who's eagerly awaiting some newness for Battlelore 2nd Edition.

I meant without the large number of ships. To a more "normal" buyer (assuming 1 of all to make up for any ships not wanted/ships doubled), the past release schedule was still $270 retail. For many, that's a huge hurdle. Even with the online discounts dropping $70 of it off, that's still a rather large gap to cover.

As far as TIEs go, if I'm the one running Imperial, I'll be loading more so with bombers and possibly a Vader-lead chain of swarm tactics/assault missiles. At that point cost of a game, and on a 4x12 (most likely of layouts), that will eat a lot of Rebel points.

And now I know why X-Wing is the most successful game FFG has ever produced. :)

Mind if I call you the UltimateShopper?

For my 1200 pts Games I run all Corellian Corvettes 6 - 8 of them. I mean come on, who needs Fighters? So boring!

RAMMING SPEED!

UltimateZing, do you have any fingers left?!? Just the thought of opening 48 blister packs in a couple of weeks makes me want to get the medi-kit out.
