Where do we go from here?

By The Amazing Flight Lizard, in X-Wing

So the ships for both sides seem almost complete.

Imps could use maybe the old Starwing, missile boat, maybe Skipray Blastboat. A couple Huge ships to bring them in line with the Rebs.

Rebs have maybe a couple more large ships, like YT-2400 and 2000.

Do we really have much more left, beyond a Wave 5, maybe Wave 6?

Not that I'm complaining. I mean, I guess after that we could start looking into whatever the good Mr. Abrams brings us.

And it's not that I WANT them to stop, necessarily, either, but I'd hope we won't dilute the ships that are already there, or completely make some obsolete. Y-Wing and Advanced seem to be getting that way, and the original TIE ln is creeping that direction, but more slowly.

Thoughts?

Or maybe ideas for whole different branches in which to take this?

I wonder if a Sentinel lander wouldn't be a good size counter to the GR-75. It's not super huge, like the CR-90, but it's still pretty big. What, twice the length of a Lambda or so? That's pretty much my only wish list Imp ship left. Then for the Rebs, I'd love to see a YT-2000. Beyond that, I'm sated, really.

I agree going forward there needs to be a Huge Imperial ship to provide parity with what has been released with the rebels. Ideas have been thrown out on other threads such as another dimension to add that would include mercenaries etc., to provide another element. Would wonder if the idea of having ships try to take over other ships i.e. boarding parties would be cool also....we shall see FFG has not disappointed me yet other then the waiting for the next release...

There are lots of ships they can still release, plus re paints, repacks, new cards, upgrades, the new movies. The Eu

There is lots of life.

If they ever did exhaust every possible ship, and character from star wars, they could always just create their own

Maybe Disney will make a show and put in new ships and pilots.

Just like how He-man was technically a 22-25 min advertisement for their toys

I think they could re-release existing ships with new pilots to shake things up a bit. The interceptors and X wings have extra pilots already, but what about Y-Wings? We've already got Ekelark Yong's astromech in R5-P9, so why not the pilot himself, or other Gray Squadron pilots? More pilots and upgrades for the TIE advanced and Bomber would be good too. Hell, I'd love to be able to buy the X-Wing without the big whale thing, and would love a generic rogue squadron pilot (PS5 with an EPT?). Even the TIE fighter itself could benefit from a wider range of named pilots to shake up the swarm.

Cheerio,

Ben

They could go to Wave 20 and not get close to exhausting all the EU ships. I hope they don't, but another couple of waves should be good. There will be plenty of options when all this new Star Wars material starts coming out.

Since Disney have wiped the EU stuff from the cannon, I would prefer they not go too far down that road. I would like to see a few big Impie ships, some more bounty hunter ships and then tie ins with the new movie stuff

Well, we'll probably be getting any new ships they introduce in Rebels (including the main character's ship), and the leaked photos from Ep 7 have already revealed a new X-Wing design, so, I get the feeling the next few years are going to be really good for new ships that we'll actually get to see in motion, and not just written about.

I posted this elsewhere. Guess I may as well drop it here too!

The Stormtrooper Transport is something I am hoping for.

Ion -> Board -> Capture (huge ship)

Just like it did in the classic TIE Fighter computer game. Would simply be awesome.

I agree that there are still some things that can and should come out, but I also agree with the OP that it shouldn't get too crazy and undermine the existing stuff.

I'm in the camp with wanting more huge, but I'd also like a parallel game at a different scale, with capital ships.

I think there's still life left in the ships available. I do agree with RuneSmith - I don't think FFG should venture too far down the EU path. A few ships seem worthy, but really I would be disappointed to see something like the Suncrusher on the horizon.

A third faction is right out. As much as FFG had stated that this is an Empire v Rebel game there's no way they'll k-turn that far. Besides, the entire appeal of this game to me is Empire v Rebels. So please, no Republic or Separatist stuff either. That kind of thing belongs where the ISDs do - in their own game.

I do believe completely that FFG will hitch their wagon on the Ep 7,8,9 train. Why wouldn't they? Barring some legal issue I think it would be their best move, and would still tie into the universe smoothly. Having said that, the movies aren't out yet so who the hell knows how far away from Empire v Rebel it'll go, but from this far away it seems like a good idea.

And while on that subject there's the new Rebels show coming. While it does bridge a gap between 3 & 4 (that's right, right?) I'm sure it's close enough to the Rebellion Era that it could make an FFG appearance.

But it's the same issue as with the new trilogy. It's not out yet so who knows.

I can see FFG waiting until Episode 7 comes out, maybe on the heels of Episode 8, and releasing XWM 2nd Edition. Release new cards for any old ships (similar to the conversion pack for Descent 2nd Ed.), and start over again, maybe using ships from the new trilogy.

I'll be honest, there's not a lot of holes in either side as far as need. Imps need 2 epic ships. I wouldn't mind seeing a couple more large base craft, provided they are not redundant with the Falcon, Shuttle, or Firespray. The TIE Advanced needs to be reworked. What else is there without sacrificing some factional identity? Not a lot, IMO. I'm not really of the mind or interest of shoe-horning a lot of EU craft into the mix without specific identities. I'm all for new pilot cards, astromechs, EPTs, and so on, but I don't really see new craft being urgent unless they do spectacular and experimental things like the Phantom.

The phantom potentially opens up some asymmetry with the Rebels. There is a stealth X-Wing for the NR, but it comes from almost as far in the future in the EU as the new films.

I can see the following (personally would not buy much more than this, either):

Large, Rebel ships

YT-2400

VCX-100 light freighter Ghost (from upcoming "SW: Rebels")

Small Imperial Ships

Inquisitor's TIE advanced (x2?) Ship (curved wing TIE, "SW: Rebels")

G-1A (Mist Hunter) - bounty hunters Zuckuss & 4-Lom

JumpMaster 5000 (Punishing One) - bounty hunter Dengar; first Imp to use an astromech droid

Aggressor Assault Fighter (IG-2000) - bounty hunter IG-88; first droid pilot

Huge Imperial Ship

Gozanti Cruiser (Imps huge ship, also "Rebels" related)

So you're sayin' no Star Destroyer?

:P

Starwing, R-41, T-Wing... there are others out there. Presuming FFG doesn't do a third faction on us or something.

One thing I'd like to see is a space platform. Yeah, that's up-and-up in costs over the CR-90 but I can see it as a counterpart against the rebel ships. Would come with a host of base defense/patrol/assault missions for the empire and a campaign in a singular spot on a 3x3 or 4x3. Support craft like the DX-9s would be neat for other scenarios and there would be upgrades across the board for the rest of the Imperial fleet, as surely they'd be passing through and/or are part of the base defenses.

When our FFG pals finish taking care of this...

...except for that hand held vacuum, which they can exchange for this...

10231954603_4ffb4ac787_o.jpg

...and get ALL of the BOUNTY HUNTERS done with their ships, and some more YT this'es and that'es options...well, then everything else is old gravy and new trilogy stakes in my Big Book.

:D

YUM!

:P
