3 Bombers+Backstabber Squad

By The_Brown_Bomber, in X-Wing

Capt. Jonus + squad leader + homing missile (29)

Gamma + assault missiles + cluster missiles (27)

Gamma + assault missiles + cluster missiles (27)

Backstabber (16)

Total:99pts

I was tinkering with this squad last night. Here is the plan...

  • unleash two assault missiles in 1st alpha strike (supported by jonus rerolls and free focus/target lock)
  • follow up with additional close range clusters
  • backstabber flanking and as a finisher
  • Jonus with homing missile to finish off a primary unshielded target

thoughts?

Overall, I like the loadout on the three bombers, including Jonus. It's exactly the kit I run on my "Jonus brings a Lamb" list and discussed in a previous bomber thread. I ran a Black Squadron with Shield and DTF to make sure the bombs go off.

I also think the inclusion of Backstabber is interesting since you don't have a lot of hitting power after the missiles go, though I'd guess he becomes the primary target and probably won't get his bonus often as a "finisher;" he should get it early, though.

I'll be curious to see if it performs better than mine in that is more susceptible to crits and focus fire without the DTF (I've never gotten fewer than four of the five missiles off and never lost a bomber Turn 1), but Backstabber may make up for that with his hitting power and as a distraction.

AW - i think backstabber should get in some early cheap shots as they r likely to concentrate on the bombers. at PS5 backstabber will hold his own in the endgame provided the bombers do their work and soften up the enemy.

its a squad ive suggested to a friend to play in a tourney but i wanted to post it here for some critique first.
