So for the uninitiated, is the cheapest way to gain access is to buy a single ship package ($30) and then the Arena add-on for $5?

"What do I need to access Arena Commander?

To access Arena Commander one will need an RSI account and a pledge package which includes a ship, some credits and access to the full game. Specific access to the Arena Commander is also required, in the form of an Alpha Slot, or the Arena Commander Access Pass which can be bought here."

If you're talking about the Aurora MR single ship package, then yes, I believe that is the cheapest way to get in. Though for ten dollars more you might as well get the + variant, which comes with beta access as well.

Actual dog fighting? Is there significant risk of death? Or at least ejection over enemy controlled territory? Are we talking major peril here? Sign me up for "just a little peril" sorry, could not resist.

Well, that $30 Aurora package doesn't come with beta access, so you might want to spring for the $40 one that does come with beta access: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/store/316-aurora-mr

And then, yes, you'll need the $5 arena alpha access pass to play the Arena Commander dogfighting module.

All of this was a bit cheaper months ago, heh

YES! Man, now I really want to leave work a little early. . .

I pledged for a Freelancer what seems like forever ago. Although it looks like I won't be flying that bad boy yet, I'm still stoked!

Yeah, you'll get a Hornet in your hangar to fly until they implement the Freelancer (which probably won't be for another month or two). Don't forget to put on your helmet (on a pedestal near where you start) before you hop in the Hornet! Otherwise, Arena Commander won't start up.

I'm right there with you. I guess the next closest thing to my Cutlass is the 300i, because that's what the module has stuck me with. Either that or I'm too dumb to figure out how to enter the other ships.
