Jan Ors + Corvette Primary & Secondary Attacks

By Slugrage, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Since the settings on these forums won't let me search for anything less than 4 characters, trying to find anything about "Jan" or "Ors" is almost impossible...

What's the opinion on Jan Ors innate ability to add 1 attack die when combined with the Corvette's primary and multiple secondary attacks if she's in the correct range and stress free?

When another friendly ship at Range 1-3 is attacking, if you have no stress tokens, you may receive 1 stress token to allow that ship to roll 1 additional attack die.

I'm hung up over the phrase "is attacking" meaning to me any attack the ship makes that round. Is this like Marksmanship where it's any attack? Or a single use per round ability? Or can she use it once in a round, then has the stress token and then it can't work any longer until she clears the stress?

Or short of a FAQ is this suddenly a somewhat OP combination? If there's another already existing topic that I missed, please point me to it.

Thanks!

When another friendly ship ... is attacking is limited to the current attack. The effect (+1 die) applies to this attack only.

That trigger condition allows Jan to use her ability during each and every attack. That has one problem, though: Stress. If she has no stress during a friendly attack, she can use her ability. Next friendly attack, if she has no stress, she can use her ability again. Stress is the limiting factor.

The corvette benefits from her ability. For one attack only. Then she has stress.

What dvor said.

FWIW, the CR90 isn't unique in this. Same applies for Cluster Missiles, Gunner, Corran, et al. Jan boosts a single attack each time she uses her ability, and then has to deal with the stress from there.

Thanks. I was torn and my judgment was being clouded by my love of the HWK. :)

I can see wingman builds with Jan Ors because of this...limitation.

Just double checked, wingman is at start of combat phase, so that limits that. My bad.

Its getting tricky trying to remember the new cards and how they work...

Yeah, Wingman is going to be interesting, but I don't think it's going to be as incredibly awesome as people think, exactly because of the timing. It won't keep you from losing your action if you take a red maneuver, or let you use stressful abilities multiple times during combat. It might open you up to taking whites with someone like Jan, but it still won't save your action.

Ironically, I think the absolute best use is going to be pairing with Push the Limit. You'll keep your actions and clear the stress so you'll be able to fully maneuver next turn. When you lock yourself into greens the Interceptor dial gets a lot more limited. It'll also be a defense against a lot of the new stress-inducing stuff out there.

I really love the idea of Turr Phennir with a Wingman - move, Focus, Evade, Fire, Barrel Roll, Boost. Funfun :)

Does that suggestion use PTL twice? It is limited to once per round.

Bah. You're right. I'm sure I would have realized it as soon as I tried to use it, probably in an "Oh, look, Turr didn't clear your arc after all. Boom." sort of way.
