CR90 Imperial version or proxy miniature

By gabe69velasquez, in X-Wing

There's a lot of speculation on the forums about what the Imperial Huge ships could be or should be, but even before I started reading about all that I had in mind that the CR90 would be released with both Rebel Pilots and Imperial Pilots. It would have been a lot simpler to do and though I'm disappointed that we didn't get that option I am still hopeful for some good Imperial Huge ships.

Having said that I don't think you need to be a sculptor or modeler to have an Imperial Huge ship if you've acquired a CR90 miniature. What I'm planning to do is make an Imperial version of the Rebel CR90 fore and aft cards, but not carbon copies where the difference is only the grey color.

So I'm looking for ideas that might make it interesting to use an Imperial CR90 or the Rebel CR90 miniature as a proxy for a DP20 for example. That way you can battle a corvette size ship using a rebel squad, in a two fraction battle. I'm leaning towards the DP20 and will probably add missile slots, and the overall cost may change. Any ideas?

Looking at the potential crew, for some inspiration.

The DP20 frigate or Corellian Gunship

♦ Double turbolaser cannons (8)

♦ Quad laser cannons (6)

♦ Concussion missile launchers (4)

- 30 concussion missiles each, standard load

2nd Opinion:

8 • Double Turbolaser Cannons (2 Forward, 3 Left, 3 Right)

Crew: 2 Gunners per cannon

Fire Control: 3D

Space Range: 3-15/35/75 Space Units

Atmospheric Range: 300 metres-1.5 km/3.5 km/7.5 km

Damage: 4D+2

4 • Concussion Missile Tubes (2 Forward, 2 Aft)

Crew: 3 Gunners per tube

Fire Control: 3D

Space Range: 2-12/30/60 Space Units

Atmospheric Range: 200 metres-1.2 km/3 km/6 km

Damage: 9D

6 • Quad Laser Cannons (3 Left, 3 Right) [CEC AG-2G Quad Laser Batteries?]

Crew: 3 Gunners per cannon

Scale: Starfighter

Some simple ratios and presto

6:21 ratio 3.5 hardpoints per missiles.

hardpoints missiles total

1.75 0.5 2.25

3.5 1 4.5

5.25 1.5 6.75

7 2 9

8.75 2.5 11.25

10.5 3 13.5

12.25 3.5 15.75

14 4 18

So seven hardpoints, the primary, and three missile slots sounds about right.

The hull and shields not that hard to figure out. 7/7 hull, maybe 5/4 sheilds

Definitely not going to be 90 points.

Wow!! That ships from the old Marvel Star Wars comic!!!!

I already have one:

I already have one:

Not everyone has one, and yet anyone who owns a CR90 could use it as an

Imperial proxy with another set of pilot cards. So what do your card's look like?

Nice work!

If we do see a large ship, if you put cannons on it like with the cr....and put vader....can you imagine the destructive power. I'll take 8 shots kill my own ship and destroy 4 of yours

I started a topic here:

http://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/104964-dp20-gunship-stats/#entry1064486

I think it would be great to design a "fan approved" version of the DP20. I do not have the tools to make up the cool looking cards. I still have not got my corvette model and played with how it works so at the moment the stats for the DP20 are a WIP.

before the miniature was released, and have your own miniature.

You can see where I've gotten my stats and the ratios, and though I appreciate your work

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you on a couple of things.

Going by the fact that the DP20 is supposed to have almost three times the armament of the CR90, 6 vs 18

And the DP20 is supposed to have almost one and a half times the amount of crew as the CR90, 30 vs 45

And as the DP20 is supposed to have slightly less hull than the CR90, 192 vs 176 (7+7 vs 8+8), 120m vs 150m

And as the DP20 is supposed to have slightly more shield unit power than the CR90, 400 vs 416 (8 vs 9),

then the cards stats I would make would look slightly different than yours.

Ideally I would want to have 4 team slots to follow the 2/3 ratio, but since there are currently only three

types that would be a waste, so I think three crew would be the way to go to make up for that.

Four crew slots may be excessive, and maybe leaving two cargo to make up for it instead.

This will have to serve as a first draft as I'm sure I haven't thought of everything,

and it just occurred to me that I'll have to make cripple sides stats as well:

Edited by gabe69velasquez

It's very tempting to say, well the Tantive IV title gives the CR90 four team slots even though there are currently only three team types, since there are likely to be some new teams with new ships, but if one of those new releases is a DP20 it will supersede this project and it will be moot, so I'm going to stick with the three crew + three teams idea. 14367755625_4fedc31de3_b.jpg

Viceroy Bolda's model

IMG_2014.jpg

That looks like the missile corvette from Empire at War. If the Imperial's get an equivalent I guess it would be the Tartan patrol cruiser.

But to be honest I am hoping for a Star destroyer (followed by a Nebulon B Frigate for the Rebels)

I'm not sure the fore sections ability is quite right.
Keep in mind that Huge ships attack each round with every secondary weapon. So each round you are attacking with a primary, 3 hardpoints, 2 turrets, and 2 missiles. There is no way a ship should be allowed 8 whole attacks. Not to mention giving it a systems upgrade seems like a bit much too. This thing is a smorgasbord of upgrades, and IMO should be tuned way down.

Or knock it up to about 150 points before upgrades. 8 attacks = TIE Swarm, in a sense.

Yes it does look toothy at a glance, and I see your points,

but I'll start off reminding you that using the same maneuver dial

as the CR90, three energy isn't going to allow for all 8 attacks.

The fore section ability is my attempt to follow the 6-to-18

weapon ratio without adding 12 weapon slots.

Including the CR90 primary, that's a 2/3rds ratio...

Ship Cannon Stats Miniatures

CR90: 6 weapons 3 slots + primary.

DP20: 18 weapons 10 slots + primary x2

In doing a fair representation then,

following the ratios, what would you suggest?

It's also supposed to be slightly faster and more agile

and to just use the CR90 miniature and dial,

I'm not sure how I'm going to effect that one.

I like the look of the card but I feel it is way too powerful and would cost way too much. I don't see the need for turrets or sensor upgrades as teams, cargo and hardpoints seem to be the Huge ships version of these, there really isn't much other cross-over other than certain crew cards. I also don't think it should have the co-ordinate action as from my understanding it is a stand alone weapons platform and not really a command ship. That is its point of difference with the corvette, otherwise why take the corvette, is it just a cheaper DP20? You really just want to use TL and recover, reinforce actions with the DP20.

I think just having the primary weapon in just the fore section is fine so it doesn't violate the shoot primary weapon more than once rule (unless you have a special rule like gunner).

Also what is the maneuver dial, energy system? This is a faster ship than the CR90 so I think it should gain more energy for certain maneuvers (banks) to reflect this, again this would allow more energy and be different than the corvette. Obviously certain weapon systems like missile do not use energy which is a good idea.

and the only reference to energy I have is the

CR90: 60 MGLT/ hr

DP20: 75 MGLT/ hr

figures, which would suggest 25% more power for the DP20.
Speed Energy <- CR90
4s 1
3s 2
2b 2
2s 3
1b 3
The only change between the GR75's dial and CR90's dial is energy though, so
I wouldn't change the maneuvers. I don't know that 25% warrants a whole point improvement, 4 energy for a 1 bank is +33%. But on the other hand that's close enough, so the solution I would suggest is to use the GR75 Dial and add 2 energy to each maneuver on that dial.

My thinking on the turrets and sensors is that if you're going to have to add missiles
then why stop there, if it is a gunship 45 crew + 46 gunners , vs the CR90's 30 crew .
How would you handle it then?
If you do the math, the DP20 has three times the weaponry.
If you include the primary and call it four hardpoints for the CR90
then not including the primary or missiles the DP20 should have 9 hardpoints?
That's why I added the two turrets and counted them as two hardpoints each,
added the second shot for the primary as another rear gun,
and that left 4 four hard points, one of which I replaced with the Systems upgrade,
after all it is a gunship, and there are 46 designated gunner personnel.
Also, it doesn't show on that card but I planned to make the primary a front half
arc weapon, and the second primary shot a rear half arc shot, representing a
different gun, with primary weapon mechanics.
As I mentioned before there are only three unique team cards at the moment,
so are you suggesting adding more cargo upgrade slots in place of hardpoints?
There is no way out of Target Lock for both fore and aft as it will have two "missile launchers"
but I will reconsider the Coordinate action. I'm leaning towards
Fore: Target Lock, Reinforce.
Aft: Target Lock, Reinforce, Recover.
