Using the Tantive as a imperial ship?

By Krynn007, in X-Wing

I know some here have had games where they used the corvette with the imperials, and just omit anything that is rebel related.

I'm just curious how balanced it is.

I kind of thought that it may not be so balanced.

Like when ffg play test for example they probably only played it using rebels I'll assume.

Second, imperials I always find can easily out gun the rebels. So even though flying the Tantive on a imperial list vs a rebel list also flying a tantive the Imps will then have the power of a huge ship, plus able to fit in more ships to escort it. Making it harder for the rebel side to compete?

I will assume that when we see imperial huge ships come out, their squad point value will be higher due to their strength in numbers. Plus the thing will also be a beast.

I could be totally wrong, and maybe it works out fine. I know that the Tantive is technically a imperial ship. But when ffg released it, did they think people would run it with Imperial lists?

If anyone has done this, how did it work out? Playing as the rebels did it feel balanced? Or did you just feel you wasted your time?

The Imperials have more firepower in Epic because they're flying starfighters only: they have more ships. This is because they aren't using up 110 odd of their squad points on a ship that gets about two attacks, and 45 odd squad points on a ship that doesn't have any guns at all.

It's balanced, but the lack of titles leaves it a little lacking. That and Darth Vader should not be allowed aboard. Rebel Captive might be wonky too, but I'd allow it.

Lagomorphia seems to be underestimating just how useful the Epic ships are(although I would never run a Tantive and a Transport. They need ships to support, as they can add a ton to a fleet in action passing and cooperation.

Last night I had a Rookie X-wing live through hell because he had 3 focus tokens. The imperials can actually probably make better use of the Transport all things considered.

I can't think of anyway that it would be unbalanced for any ship to swap sides so long as faction only card stay to their team ( ie: Nein Numb )

When I played a game using both ships as rebels the other say, I was constantly thinking how much I wanted to be coordinating imperial ships rather than rebel ones.

Having to deal with that along with the Tantive I thought could be gross.

I kind of assume when imperial ships come out they will be more expensive to field, but have different functions

I have no issue at all with it in friendly games right now. No using Rebel Only Cards, but you can use Vader and Rebel Captive, so huge fun.

Now I have to go try this out damnit :-)

Wouldn't vader be a sick thing to use? Seeing it can regen shields. That seems a little over powered

It's probably not any worse than spending that energy on, you know, actually attacking things with quad and turbo lasers. Do the math on it, based on ship hit points and cost - you are burning up a huge percentage of your points every time you activate Vader on a CR-90.

Yep, you would need to use high very wisely......

Ya, but are you using him at range 5? Still think that is way over powered. At least I'd your firing your guns the defender had a chance to dodge.

Getting a free crit at range 5 seems wrong.

Plus I have a feeling vader will probably not be able to be put on the imperial huge ships, just like gunner and Luke can't.

Plus it's not like you would have to recharge your shields every turn, and can you take the shield ant section, or the one where he is on?

Anyway back to the real topic.

So anyone who has done this found it balanced?

In the end who won?

I'm betting we'll get a Huge ship only Vader card. Hopefully something that allows his Advanced to be launched from the ships midgame after storing up a ton of energy(to balance the extra point cost) :P

"We must fight them ship to ship" Launch Vader and 2 Black Squadron Ties that must remain within R1 of Vader when these Black Squadron Ties blow up spin Vader's Tie like a Top giving him a new orientation and then he performs the 5 Forward maneuver and receives a stress :)

According to Wookieepedia, CR-90's were used as transports for the Imperial Senate. Technically that's what the Tantive was doing before Leia was considered a Rebel traitor and spy.

I plan to have a Corvette vs Corvette battle this weekend .
