Official Adventure Modules

By Enjolras40, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I am trying to get all the different books lined up and see what I want, what I need, and what can wait. Regarding the official adventure modules, Beyond the Rim and The Jewel of Yavin, they are only campaigns, right? They don't have any "stuff" in them like new races, equipment, monster guides, etc.? I am assuming they don't have these, and so they are at the bottom of my list in terms of spending priority, but I want to make sure that my assumptions are correct.

Thanks for the help.

Beyond the Rim and Jewel of Yavin are in my opinion less campaigns and more long adventures. If you read the posts here they seem to be of variable length depending on how the GM runs them. Beyond the Rim, if I remember correctly, has taken some groups three sessions and other groups more than ten sessions.

I have read through Beyond the Rim (BTR) completely and Jewel of Yavin briefly. I see each of them, in addition to being a longer playable adventure, as a collection of locations, NPCs, creatures and interesting situations that could be adapted to your game.

In BTR The space station The Wheel, and two planets are detailed. These could be adventure locations outside of BTR. The adventure is also filled with situations easily adaptable to your game. As an example that won't spoil much, BTR gives a situation where the players try and scan a planet for wreckage of a space craft and gives a GM a way to conduct that situation. There are also chase, exploration and many other situations that you can read about in BTR that could carry over to your game.

I would consider the BTR and JOY as longer adventures with lots of extra content that could be meaningful to your game.

While I have pruchased Jewel of Yavin, I have not read it because the GM for my other group is running it. But I believe you are correct. They have loads of NPCs and there might be an item in one or two, but nothing that is a must have.

Thanks guys.

both adventures have great descriptions of new locations, some that stand out especially: Cloud City in JOY and Raxus Prime in BTR. the details provided for each location and the extent to which the Empire is involved are great for GMs who may want to go to those locations but may not be ready yet to run the adventures. JOY is written for experienced players, although a GM can tone it down for a group of newbies, and it says that right off.

the books also include new ships, modded ships, some great NPCs that can be modded for your own adventures or run as is, they're really well written. i would say to grab them if you're a new GM needing ideas for your campaign or just need ideas for how to prep and run a various scenarios like a trench run chase, a chase through a crowded city street, how to find your black market contacts and not feel like you are making it too easy to succeed -- these were all helpful items included in the adventures. i'd say to grab them when you're running low on inspiration or just need to have something fresh and easy to run as a GM. players don't really need to pick these up unless they plan to GM someday.

I appreciate the advice. And Aahzmandius Karrde, that site is very helpful. Bookmarked for future use. Thanks.
