Sorry, you mentioned the Catalyst embezzlement. I know more about that than I would like, enough to be infuriated, but not enough to really know the details.

Those were dark days. The quality of Catalyst's stuff remains high, but that cloud still hangs over the whole place. It's a pity, I'm a BattleTech lover first and foremost.

I'd even argue that the lack of dead tree options and visibility for its fiction is hurting that brand.

Technically battlesuits are just Pilot(Personal) so Hotshot Pilot should let you go crazy suplexing hive tyrants.

Marwynn- if you get a Tau into the group who happens to bring along a god-damned r iptide , and you have an Explorator, then what do you think is going to happen in this scenario?

Me, I see the Explorator, the Archmilitant, the Voidmasters and pretty much anyone else running around suplexing Hive Tyrants. I also see the Rogue Trader in a battlesuit with an inordinately large hat.

Checked my copy and wounds do seem to be missing, as are fate points and physical appearence tables (hight etc)

Wow, that's a little bit of an oversight. Either that or they're really playing up the idea that Tau are incredibly squishy, and if they take a single wound they die.

In our group? The Explorator'd ask me to kill the Tau after I trick the blueskin to show me how to turn it on. For heresies and whatnot, I'd imagine.

The trick is convincing the GM to let us encounter the Tau. Suppose I buy this for him... hmm.

Before this Tau-nonsense actually came to our RT games, I already had those bluberries running over Koronus with what I see is a good explanation that fits the fluff:

Dark Eldar use Webway to bypass Imperial Fleet at the Cosmic Gate on Jericho. A few hundreds of Tau escape enslavery thanks to the intervention of the Explorers at the 'Soul Reaver' chapter events. They are from every caste since dark eldar are known for not beign picky about meat-slaves. After going free, the Explorers leave them on a remote planet (because you don´t know when you are going to encounter a deep-space Navy patrol) and they set-up a small colony and grow from there.

Now, there are Tau on Koronus and a small blck market of their tech and extremely rare availability of tau mercs.

End of story. And it only sounds more complicated that it truly is, really.

No. The Tau in the adventure are a hunter cadre sent on a very specific mission (spoilers, read the adventure) and have travelled from the Jericho reach on an Imperial navy ship under....I guess you'd call it "diplomatic status"?

This is why all the characters in the guide are fire caste; it represents survivors of this force.

They have the odd battlesuit with them but nothing larger, and future support will be limited to what a rogue trader can arrange to have smuggled through from the Achillus Crusade forces.

• Would I rather it were in hardback? Of course.
• Am I pleased stuff is coming out at all? Very. A 120 page adventure plus a 30 page new race character guide is no small beer.
• Would I like to see more .pdf releases? Please.

Actually, I never said they reproduced their tech from scratch. In fact they used what they could take away from the dark eldar vaults as loot in order to bargain with the Explorers in exchange for a small settlement. Esentially they survived basically thanks to the support of a Rogue Trader Dinasty. A precious few tau ground-caste technicians/engineers provided really useful services improving imperial-based technology.

I´m glad you asked and mentioned those poinst and Im also glad to explain them in a deeper way, although I´ll had raised those same objections in a way far less... 'pointy'

Tau components, if you just re.skin things a bit. :-/

I too would like to see a RT version of the Tau vessels. Bear in mind though; In BFG, Tau vessels were not really a match for any Imperial vessel of equivalent size! In terms of Interstellar travel, The Tau use Warp drives but in a Peculiar way. Since the Tau lack navigators they only make short hops In which their ships barely graze the warp itself (Similar to a calculated jump I guess.) This severely limits their strategic range and response times.
