Just got to ask, were the Elves, Undead etc swap outs for Humans for flavour (and you had very well painted cool miniatures already) or did you have rules for them from 'da man his self'? - Might just act as a quick peek into the future for Battlelore....
Chris
(if they had specific rules did you have NDA or can you give a hint.........)
The units all had their culture's unique behaviors. It was great fun seeing everything in action. As for the details of their behavior you will have to ask Richard - he monitors the forums. I am not sure what is 'releasable' and what isn't as I don't have the opportunity to play with the Orlando crowd very much anymore. So I will defer any of those type of questions to him.
Not to tease, but I asure you that the new cultures add a nice flavor and rich complexity to the game that I am confident that all Battlelore fans will appreciate. I am a relatively old wargamer that has rebased all of his fantasy figures to support Battlelore (nearly a thousand and growing) - that is how good the game is. It beats anything out there for the Fantasy genre in regards to enjoyment - we fielded 30 units per side and the game was always popping with decisions to be made and strategic thought as your opponent took his turn.
Anyone who has bemoaned the 'demise' of the system just need to have a little patience with FFGs. Good things come to those who wait.
Mike
Thanks for the post, Mike
While I've certainly been eagerly awaiting BattleLore to get some more meat on its bones, playing the game as is has kept me engrossed for a couple of years now. However, your picture of the future (past/present in Orlando
) makes it more difficult, not less, for me to be patient
Guess we can't be tease more - anything about the basic abilities for orcs/elves - I gather elves probably fought better in forests and perhaps in range fire (which seems to be the norm with elves). And maybe orcs had like one dice more in foot hand to hand battle maybe? Just a guess
Todd - I might be moving up to Greeley by month's end - will know more by Monday. Just thought I let you know..I know you are in one of thoese bloody L towns around here (for those not in the know, Denver has an ABUNDANCE of L towns - guess someone liked the letter L!) So if you happen to be in Loveland (don't think you are, are you?!?) maybe if I do move up there and settle down we can get together one day. Of course, you can PM me on DoW forum.
Cab
That's funny Cab, I never realized the overkill of L towns in the Denver metro+ area.
mpanko... do you know what terrain was used for that map?? Is it custom or do I see Hexon II Terrain? Either way, that looks amazing. I assume you guys were still using 15mm scale, just more figures per unit?
Thanks for link but... Who won and do you have any more pics???
The board used was the Kallistra Hexxon II set. The number of elements per unit did not change - foot had 4, cavalry three and so forth. There were just more miniatures per unit - for the effect of a mass battle. All the figures are 15mm, unfortunately the majority of them are Demonworld - and thus OOP. If you are looking for some good alternatives though I like the Black Raven Foundry, Eureka and Splintered Light figures.
The figures and board are mine - the scenario and setup was Richards. As for who won - the Good Guys did - I probably did not make it clear in the BLOG but I was on the Goblinoid side and had a heck of a time trying to cross that stream that the Alliance was defending.
I am not sure when FFG or Richard will release details about the cultures and different units so I won't go into anything along those lines until Richard says it's ok, sorry about that.
Mike
Hey Mike,
I am currently going about creating a Hexon II Battlelore board myself and was wondering how you represented the hills?
Did you use the hill terrain pieces from Kallistra? Or did you create your own? Same with the forests and waterways?
Thanks mate - the board looks fantastic!
Ben.
Everything on the board terrain wise is from Kallistra. Although their system is expensive I think if you are looking for a permanent, reconfigurable hex board they are the best. I have tried alot of different things in the past - Geo Hex, home grown attempts, hexes on felt etc. In the end for visual appeal and impact their system has no peer - as long as you can tolerate the steep cost of getting everything you want.

No worries. FFG or Richard will comment when they are ready. A bunch of other games are updating/expanding in the very near future so I'm biding my time with them for now
. Thanks for the info on the board and game results, sounds like a blast!

Where do you live in Colorado then? Just curious - since Todd lives up north and I'm here in Aurora...

A throw down? Sounds like you have a winning track record...got 3 words for you Zeal "Goblins Mounted Charge" - that should put you back with a few nightmares!
But do look forward to when you might be in town Zeal...let us know when and where.
Looks like I'll be staying put for a while now - oh well. Was kinda hoping but no biggie.
Cab
Hey Cab, I'm actually just over in Broomfield.
I thought you lived in Loomfield?
I know, I know, another "L" word - Lame. But I never let that stop me, in fact, it only encourages me.

I hear also another L word - Looney...and yes, there might even be a white padded cell with your name on it!
