Getting Back in the Game

By XeroxColorCopy, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hello,

I'm getting back into playing Decent again after about 2 1/2 years. I have Descent Base set (1st edition), Well of Darkness expansion, Tomb of Ice Expansion and Sea of Blood expansion. I recently picked up the Descent 2nd Edition Conversion Kit. I have a couple of questions:

1) Are these expansions compatible with Descent 2nd Edition?

2) Is there anything else I should pick up to bring me up to be current?

Thanks in advance.

You will need the second edition of the base game, none of the 1st edition components are usable except for the miniatures in 2nd edition.

Edit: the conversation kit makes it possible to use the minis from 1st edition.

What Sixko said. The 2nd edition is a very different game. Some of the mechanics may be similar, but not enough that you can just port the 1E stuff over to 2E (in terms of using 1E tiles, quests, cards, etc).

The Conversion Kit, as mentioned, is just to allow players who own 1E to use all the monster and hero miniatures in 2E, but you still need the 2E base set to play it.

Thanks for the explanation about the conversion kit.

So, the expansions Well of Darkness, Tomb of Ice and Sea of Blood cannot be used with Decent 2nd Edition?

Thanks in Advance

Only the minis, nothing else.

with the conversion Kit you can use all minis from the 1st edition game and expansion (as well as promotionnal heroes and dungeonquest heroes) into Descent V2.

All other stuff from D1 is not used and cannot be used to D2.

without the conversion kit, nothing from D1 as any use in D2

Personnaly, i've thrown all unused stuff from D1 to garbage, and I never regret it

If you mean literally in the trash, seems like kind of a waste, as I'm sure there are people out there who would love to have the cardboard and cards from the game, even without the minis :)

It is true that with Descent 2E the only 1E components that are used are the miniatures.

I am like you, in that I own all of the 1E stuff. However, unlike rugal, I did not throw anything away.

Instead I have been working on a set of variant rules , which allow the optional use of some 1E materials with the 2E ruleset, and also the playing of 1E quests using the 2E rules. Mainly the reusable parts are some of the tokens and all of the map tiles. I have not, however, looked into salvaging any of the cards.

Cheers.

Thanks for posing this question and to the players who have responded. I'm also looking to get back into playing with some friends and wanted to know if the conversion kit was the way to go or getting the new game would be best. Now I know. Thanks!

I've proposed them during a long time, nobody wanted it. I've lost patience. :(
