Why does it look like the X-Wing only has a single intake on each side, as opposed to the twin intakes per side? Is that a later development? (I'm admittedly not very well-versed in the EU.)

Kool.

I sound build one in my front yard

Looks like maybe an "Advanced X-Wing" which was something from the EU. I want to say they were in the Jedi Academy sourcebook back in the day. Cool that they are definitely using the original concept art. Looks like I'll be buying at least a couple of these in mini form in a year or two.

The ends of the S-foils are redesigned too, I actually quite like that look!

Intakes are...meh...

All in all, pretty cool so far!

I can dig it.

That actually looks alot nicer than I thought it would when the S-foils split!

I'll be very happy if they still have X-Wings and Ties in the new movie. Was worried that after 30 years the fighters would be phased out (like most of the fighters from the clones wars, bar a couple exceptions).

Well since the first 2 pics I posted are from Pinewood Studios we should get to see them open in about 18 months.

found this too. :)

I dig the redesigned s-foil tips but I'm not sure about the shortened snout. I'm not used to it. Strangely the X-wing in the 1st photo has a longer nose than the one in the 2nd. Perhaps they're prototypes of a new X-wing model.

Now, how to make the Advanced X-Wing different... Maybe, add boost, tweak the dial, and give it 3 agility. Like an E-Wing but a little different.

If you are going by the old sourcebook that is basically exactly what you would do. It was essentially built to keep it on par with the E-Wing. I'd do exactly what you stated.

And make it cost 40 points.

I'm a bit disappointed. Yea it's "different" from the original X-wing, but not different enough given the huge time gap since the last time we saw it. I hope the new movies aren't gonna re-use everything from the OT and just make them a hair different.

I thought about new advanced X-wings as well. If Ep VII introduces them then there's a good chance we'll see them in this game. Personally I like the idea of them having boost but with +1 to shield instead of +1 to agility to keep it different from the A and E-wings. A 3,2,3,3 ship is still nothing to scoff at plus smart use of boost will keep it alive for longer.

Advanced X-Wing modification maybe (in a pack with the advanced x-wing).

If there's an entire redesign of the X-wing in the new films, we'll be getting more than just a title or modification card. At least that's what I think.

I dunno, look at a good real world example in the harrier. Best part of 60 years old base design, and later, bigger, more powerful versions are still being made and used in frontline roles today. It's not really notably much different.

Let's also wait to see what the completed design, which includes painting it, will be.

And this is why JJ can't win - too different, and some wil crucify him for breaking with the established concepts. Too similar, and some will regret the lack of change.
