Episode VII

By Duke of Advil, in X-Wing

I just want a good movie.

No sanitized CGI environments or plastic characters.

I want struggle and hope.

A story I can emotionally invest into.

If it's better than Ep 1-3 and not quite as good as 4-6, I'll still be happy. Just please, come close!

I'm a bit disappointed. Yea it's "different" from the original X-wing, but not different enough given the huge time gap since the last time we saw it. I hope the new movies aren't gonna re-use everything from the OT and just make them a hair different.

I dunno, look at a good real world example in the harrier. Best part of 60 years old base design, and later, bigger, more powerful versions are still being made and used in frontline roles today. It's not really notably much different.

We are still using the B-52... it was first introduced in 1955.

My biggest curiousity is how much they are going to borrow or use from the EU. I know the storylines are being wiped clean, but I'm talking about ships, characters, etc.

Will Boba truely have made his miraclous escape from the Sarlacc pit?

Guys it's already been said that Abrams will be using practical effects for filming. That is, less reliance on CG and using more traditional special effects for filming (like using rain generators instead of inserting rain CGI-like).

So that means large physical models just like in the original trillogy. So we're looking at a new X-Wing design.

But there ARE differences between the two shots above. In the second one the nose is shorter and some of the proportions look distorted. If this isn't an acknowledged variant (which would it be? They didn't go out of their way to make it seem so), then it could be a forced-perspective model.

Similar to the one in the original Galactica. What this is is a model that can be used for close-ups on the pilot. All you need is the space around the cockpit and as long as the surrounding proportions are "cinematic", then it's convincing. The nose doesn't really have to look that long if it's from the pilot's POV.

Otherwise it just looks like a background X-Wing. We have one fully proportioned for hero shots for the characters to interact with and another to stick in the background you don't really pay attention to.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

That is all I have to say.

I can dig it.

I hope it looks more like this!

Yeah, well just wait until themovie comes out...

Why are we focused on the X-Wing!?

THERE IS A 1:1 SCALE MILLENNIUM FALCON BEING BUILT, PEOPLE!

WHY FOCUS ON ANYTHING BAD WHEN THERE IS SO MUCH GOOD!?

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I think the reason we are focusing on the X-Wing is because it is a variation of the original. Because this site does focus on individual ships this change may affect game play later down the road. (that is why i posted it) While it is amazing to see a full scale Falcon is does not directly affect us.

True as that may be, it does seem like a focus on the negative more than the positive.

At least to me.

Anyone else thinking the modified X-wing is a StealthX? The color looks right and I am sure in the "Cruising" configuration it would be easier to mask emissions from one larger exhaust than the 2 smaller ones

This makes a lot of sense. Thx:)

I dig the redesigned s-foil tips but I'm not sure about the shortened snout. I'm not used to it. Strangely the X-wing in the 1st photo has a longer nose than the one in the 2nd. Perhaps they're prototypes of a new X-wing model.

I think the x-wing may actually be a flat of the ship that goes at the back of the hanger not a 3D version which is why the nose is so much shorter in one of the photos, it's made to look right only at the right angle.

They should just write it into the script, like they did with Mark Hamill's motorcycle accident before Empire Strikes Back.
