Tie-A: will FFG do something?

By Tobi_GER, in X-Wing

Sorry, i still say leave it alone. First off, it was an experimental ship (as per my local Star Wars nerd), and second, the Empire has enough toys, hell, we got wave four ahips.

Maybe add a few new pilots to add some spice, such as maybe a pilot that does better under stress...such as gets free action after stress maneuver.

Just my rhoughts.

The whole point of this conversation is the relavance of older ships when a new wave is released. Saying dont worry about it wave 4 is coming is the exact reason people discuss this. We want the money we spent on a ship to be wrth it and not stop using a ship we payed for because its no longer competative.

But in the case of tie a, was it ever competative?

Umm, Vader still does well. As long as 1 pilot is competitive, the ship is competitive.

Yes, we all agree vader is competative. But 1 pilot for an entire ship?

Yes i should have played with 1 before buying 5. But the point is also sales. Why put out a ship people will buy for just vader. When there are other ships out there with better options for your money.

I cant see FFG hearing so much hate for 1 ship that they do nothing. But then again, maybe it sells better than we think and they dont feel a need to change it. But i will not buy another 1, and will probly try to sell my 4 extra, but i think ill eat some on the sales.

That said, the 1 ship i always see still on the rack when others are sold out......tie advanced

Give it a TIE Advanced title card giving it 3 attack and a boost action for a few points (since it is already over cost) and a snazzy TIE Avenger model and I will buy 8 for epic... I won't care if it is an Aces pack.

Also include a different title card for X1/TIE Advanced taking a few points off so people can play the original as well.

I think we will see another TIE Advanced when they release the Rebel series, Because some of the hasbro toys showed at toy fair was a white/light grey Advanced, piloted by the Inquisitor:

it looks a bit more sleek than our "old" Advanced SWX05.jpg

It would be cool if they somehow could make the Tie Advanced a fear-factory... remove a stress token from your ship or a friendly ship at range 1-2 and give it to enemy ship at range 1-2....

So, I've actually been mulling over my previously stated idea "Action: After executing a green maneuver, you may preform a free barrel roll action using the 1 turn template. Cost 2. Title. Advanced Only." And I'm really starting to like it. First off, unlike upgrading it to 3 attack or giving it boost or a FCS, it makes the Advanced unique. No other ship can fly the way it can fly... And that seems to fit the theme FFG is going for... Interceptors are the only ship with BR + Boost, FS are the only ship with rear arc, Shuttles are the only ships with a stop (and only red turns), Bombers definitely fly differently than TIE fighters, the phantom has the unique decloak, and the defender has the white 4k... Each ship (besides the "base" /LN) has something that makes it special... well, I suppose the /x1 doesn't have anything special right now, but the title would fix that!

And while the 2 points might not be the right cost, the actual maneuver wouldn't be overpowered. First, with the green maneuver restriction, it can only be used on 1 banks, and 2/3 forward. This prevents it from being used to do a white K turn while still allowing it to flank it's opponent. It'd also support higher PS so you can outmaneuver everyone... And it actually synergizes relatively well with Maarek since it'd be easier to use at R1, granting him an extra die to push that crit through.

Meanwhile, it's relatively easy to predict for the opponent, but not necessarily easy to avoid. It increases its jousting efficiency... If you're going for a head on attack, he can just BR off to the side, get a R1 on you while you get no shot... And if you're slow rolling it, he can stay back, preventing you from getting an extra die, and then turtle up with an evade. If you try to block him from doing it one way, he can just do it the other direction.

It would make it a viable fighter on its own, instead of trying to pigeon hole it into a support role that it's not really designed for...And it would make it a monster in the end game.

But for those of you who don't like it, I had another thought that could make the Advanced unique while still buffing it. Currently, there's no way to reroll greens. You could give it a title that would allow it to reroll its greens. It could work either as adding an action to the bar "Action: Spend this token to reroll any number of Agility Dice" or as an auto ability "When defending, you may reroll your Agility Dice. If you do so, you must reroll all Agility Dice that you can"... I actually like the Han Solo version better I think.

I don't know if these would fix the Advanced as well as the first idea... actually, I don't think the action fixes it at all... but the Han Solo-esque ability would make it quite the defensive beast... But the problem with that is that the game is focused on killing stuff, not not getting killed.

Ibtisam and Flight Instructor reroll greens don't they?

Ibtisam and Flight Instructor reroll greens don't they?

True... Ibby can reroll one when she's stressed, and Flight instructor can reroll an eye (or blank if PS<3)... but those are fringe cases... No one competitively uses FI (look at regionals), and Ibby is in the middle of the list as for named pilots (which means very few use her as well).

I still prefer my first suggestion. I kinda want to play test it now.
