Bases

By hammerghast, in X-Wing

Hey guys, I dabble in building some custom ships, or at least plan to. I've noticed Gale Force 9 or one of their competitors have brought out custom tokens and templates, has anyone started making spare bases yet? I can more than understand that it's not a huge market item but one would think there'd be ONE option at this stage if you, say, lost or broke one.

Thanks.

I think the closest we've come to that is painting and weighting our own.

This is a VERY important thing to get right and sanctioned, though, as the ships' bases effect the vast majority of in-game mechanics.

That said, getting some that are pre-weighted with a higher table-friction factor would definitely be something worth selling. Just make sure that FFG clears it for use, and you'll make a minor mint.

Eh, Litko apparently makes some but I don't trust them. They look poorly made and not-quite-right, not to mention their peg system is all kinds of wonky, and the only reviews I've seen recommend staying away from them.

If you break or lose a base, just shoot an email to FFG customer service. They're really good about this sort of thing. (As an example, a guy in my local play area got a Transport missing a little bit--I think one of the containers, but I could be wrong--and they sent him a whole new ship).

Aside from that, the bases that WizKids makes for Attack Wing are pretty cool for casual play (although they're shaped a bit differently, so they won't work for tournaments).

They can give people a free transport, but people are still waiting for imperial aces??

I'll give the Litko ones a try for a whole $2 a piece, calling the attack wing bases a backup plan. At the end of the day, they're not hard to resin cast and make basic pegs so there's plan C. thanks guys.

Just be aware that bases are one of the few things (along with proxy ships/cards) that are STRICTLY forbidden to have altered (with the exception of weighing down), and I figure that includes manufacturing on your own.

With that being said I fully agree that it's annoying that no official replacement kits are freely available for purchase

Transports are in stock. Aces aren't. That, and they likely have a couple of crates of spare models specifically for this sort of problem.

if your looking to fix your bases take a trip to the hardware store. get some washers and some rubber cement. the rubber cement can be used glue the washers under the base and to paint on the bottom edge of the base. makes them almost impossible to bump on most surfaces and if a TO doesn't want to let you use it you can just peel it off real quick and put some more on later. They need touch up every month or so anyway.

Nice thick mouse pads can be cut to fit the underside of the base. no slip, great weight. Nice to look at.
