Species not in USM 3.0

By Tweedledope, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Good eve all,

I'd like to present the following three races for your critique. Two of them are revamps of those appearing in the Unofficial Species Menagerie 3.0. I feel these two "updates" are more focused on the description of the species rather than the stats presented in Saga Edition or Revised d20.

Arcona

2 Brawn

2 Agility

2 Intellect

2 Cunning

2 Willpower

2 Presence

Wounds Threshold: 12 + Brawn

Strain Threshold: 10 + Willpower

Starting Experience: 100 XP

Special Abilities: Arcona begin the game with one rank in Resilience. They still may not train Resilience above rank 2 during character creation.

Besalisk

3 Brawn

1 Agility

2 Intellect

2 Cunning

2 Willpower

2 Presence

Wounds Threshold: 12 + Brawn

Strain Threshold: 10 + Willpower

Starting Experience: 90 XP

Special Abilities: Besalisks begin the game with one rank in Resilience. They still may not train Resilience above rank 2 during character creation. Besalisks may remove one setback die imposed due to arctic or cold environmental conditions.

Extra Limbs: Besalisks may wield two weapons normally requiring the use of two hands simultaneously. This includes two-handed weapons such as force pikes and weapons requiring the ranged (heavy) skill. Wielding two-handed weapons in this manner imposes one setback die. Follow the rules for two weapon combat as normal.

Ishi-Tib

2 Brawn

2 Agility

3 Intellect

2 Cunning

2 Willpower

1 Presence

Wounds Threshold: 10 + Brawn

Strain Threshold: 10 + WIllpower

Starting Experience: 100 XP

Special Abilities: Ishi-Tib begin with 1 rank in Negotiation; they may not train this skill above rank 2 at character creation.

Beak: When an Ishi-Tib makes a Brawl check to deal damage to an opponent, their attack deals +1 damage and has a crit rating of 3.

Amphibious: Ishi-Tib can breathe underwater without penalty and never suffer movement penalties for traveling through water. Additionally, Ishi-Tib must submerge themselves each day in a brine for at least 1 minute or reduce his strain threshold by 2 for the following day. This effect is cumulative

Dresselian

2 Brawn

2 Agility

2 Intellect

3 Cunning

2 Willpower

1 Presence

Wounds Threshold: 10 + Brawn

Strain Threshold: 12 + Willpower

Starting Experience: 100 XP

Special Abilities: Dresselians begin with 1 rank in Survival; they may not train this skill above rank 2 at character creation. They also start with one rank in the Confidence talent.

I question the reduced Agility on the Besalisk. They have four arms; I imagine they'd be even more dexterous. I can't see having four arms as a disadvantage. I keep thinking of General Krell from The Clone Wars. I'd say they have average at the very least.

Well, using Master Krell as an example is probably a bad idea since his agility came from The Force. I base it on multiple sources stating that they have multiple arms but are no more dexterous because of it. Alternatively, they could have a 1 Willpower to reflect their hot headedness and stubborn streaks?

Sorry for the double post, but I added Dresselians to the list as well for your consideration...

Lots of resilience being given. I understand if you are trying to go by the wookiepedia entry, but a bit more diversity might be prudent.

My mistake, Dresselians should be Survival not Resilience. This is what copy+paste from a phone does...

It should be noted that Master Krell, and his performance in TCW is considered a canon character while many of the sources that talks about Besalisks are likely not.

Take that for what you will, but I felt compelled to mention it.

I'd like to get everyone's feedback on the Arcona. Part of me feels that they're slightly underpowered especially when compared to, say, a Human who gets the equivalent of 120 starting XP.

Arcona seems pretty fair to me, especially considering the 12+ Wound Threshold. I'm not familiar with the source material so I cannot say if it is an accurate representation.

Humans get 110 starting XP methinks, unless you count Obligation/Duty.
