Please bear with me guys, I'm desperately trying to get better at this game and was wondering what is so good about advanced sensors. My understanding of it is that they let you carry out an action before you reveal your move, but if you take an action you can not take another one after you move. So what's the point, what am I missing?
Advanced Sensors
One, if you know you will bump or move over an asteroid, you still get to take your action. Also, if your action is movement based (barrel roll, boost, and now cloak), doing it before your move can drastically change where you end up at the end of the turn.
You can deliberately crash into enemy ships and not lose your action. Which means you will never ever lose an action due to enemies crashing.
Being able to take an action before moving also keeps you from losing your action due to stress. Let's say you take your action, k-turn, shoot with focus/TL/whatever. Next turn, you green move, no more stress, take action, shoot again. You always have your actions, and that's huge in this game.
You can also boost/barrel roll before moving, giving you more movement options.
For the beginner, it makes your movement more forgiving. You will never lose your action from screwing up your movement and actions tend to be what make or break the game. Barrel Roll on top of Advanced Sensors mean asteroids go from being annoyances/obstacles to being the perfect shields to build your strategies around.
Thanks guys, I like the sound of this, don't want to get too excited, I could do with the morale boost of a win this week before the tourney next sun!
On the Bwing, the barrel roll, 2K is a fav, along with the Roll, and red 1 turn, so going nowhere, but turning, can really mess with lfight paths. Adv Sensor is powerful in the right hands. Of if you know you are going to hit someone, you take your action and ram them, getting your action is HUGE.
Would I be right in thinking if you have any stress you can not take your action first, until the stress is cleared?
You are correct. If you have stress, you must make your green move to clear it and then take the action as normal.
Also, if you have an ion token (or two for large ships) you do not place a dial. Since Advanced Sensors triggers off the dial, an ioned ship cannot use advanced sensors.
Also with PTL you can take two actions, get a stress, do a green maneuver and get rid of the stress. There are lots of fun ways to use Advanced Sensors. Gonna be all kinds of fun on an E-Wing.

At Imdaar this weekend I ran that on my E-Wing along with R2-D2 so I'd also regen a shield while clearing the stress. It was tanky as hell.
1. Perform your action before you crash into another ship or asteroid which would deny your action.
2. Perform your action before revealing a RED maneuver which will give you Stress and prevent you from taking actions.
3. Perform some action before your maneuver takes you out of range for that action. example TL before moving away.
4. Performing a movement causing action before your maneuver; this can greatly increase the options on how you move.
5. Perform a Stress inducing action(s) before performing a Green maneuver that will clear that Stress.
5.1. WARNING: Performing a stress inducing action before a RED maneuver is performing a maneuver while stressed and lets your opponent pick your maneuver.
Not sure what I missed.
