Luke Pilot ability

By F5Q9A3, in X-Wing Rules Questions

First english is not my native-language but i hope you will understand me ;-) .

We are new with X-Wing and we had a rule problem with Lukes Pilot ability.

The ability is something like " when defending change one focus result to an evade result"

We knew that it is not allowed to use in a round the same Action more then one time.

The question was then does it mean you can not use this ability when you have a focus token ?

We ruled it for ourself so that Lukes ability is not equal like a focus token and a complete other action like focus so that you are able to use focus token + Luke ability when defending.

Is this correct ?

That is correct. Spending a token is not an action. Even if you acquired the token via an action during the same round. That pilot ability is not an action either.

The term "action" has a very specific meaning in this game. If the text does not specifically say "action", it is not an action.

His ability works regardless of any actions or tokens. You can use it once against each and every attack you face.

The pilot ability changes only one eye result while spending a focus token changes all eye results.

[EDIT  ]

Using pilot abilities is not an action (uless the card text explicitly states "Action:").

Spending a token is not an action.

You can use Lukes ability once each time he is attacked, no mater how many times he is attacked in a round.

Technicaly you can use both Lukes ability and a focus token when defending, but it's kind of pointless as a focus turns ALL eyes into evades so Luke doesn't and anything if you use a focus.

Hope that helps :)
